That is the hardest recorder concerto by Vivaldi, and the whole ensemble managed it very well. Stegmann nailed the whole concerto with ease and artistry.

Bravo très grosse performance. Très bel ensemble et beaucoup d’imagination dans le second mouvement . Bravo car ce concerto demande énormément de travail et il ne serait pas très juste de critiquer quoique ce soit. Merci pour le partage

👏It's a very detailed and large-scale performance! It's a performance in Milan in Corona. I got courage from your performance. Next month, my recorder work will be premiered by Mr. and Mrs. Daniele Bragetti of Milan. From Japanese composer Tetsuya Nishibe.🎶🇯🇵

Bravo Anna! It was my favourite piece on a Michala Petri CD when I was a teen. I was always trying to play it with the CD, but I wasn't able to hit all of the fast 16th notes. And I also haven't got the score, so I tried it only by ear. Later, I've learnt RV443's 2nd and3rd movements... I've written down the part, stopping and rewinding my walkman while sitting in the english lesson in the high school. (I had a language exam, and I had permission to do anything on english lessons...) I still have those pages torn from the back of my high school music notebook.

Again, Anna Stegmann astounds and thrills. However, I think the microphone balance for the recorder was too far away from it, giving it a distant sound compared to the violins, whose mics were closer.

Pity about the less than perfect miking, purple shifted violin player is too good to be so insensitive to their own volume. Recorder absolutely phenomenal

Not only is this not technically the hardest Vivaldi concerto to play (that accolade goes to the pretty dreadful Am Flautino Concerto) this is one of the finest Concerti that Vivaldo ever wrote, for any instrument. I have never heard it played as slowly as it's rendered here, thus, it completely dies on its feet and fails give up any of its many secrets. This unique work can be considered almost a distant pre-echo of Beethoven (yes, I mean it!) with all it's bi-polar passions veering scarily between near anger and manic flights of optimism. Frans Bruggen's recording with Harnoncourt (1966) comes close to telling the story of this wonderful piece. That recording inspired and set many young recorder players on their way. Decades later we still live in a world where people respond to these videos with superlatives like "astonishing" and "amazing" as if the recorder is not expected to get terribly far beyond "three blind mice". The recorder is not a difficult instrument to play, similar to the tin whistle - and there are truly incredible players around on that instrument! and I mean true musicians with great emotional power and understanding. I suggest that the performer here has an in-depth listen to the Bruggen recording (he was a genius and a good enough musician to later become a respected conductor of Beethoven's symphonies). There is precious little good (let alone great) music for the recorder, that when you do find something special like this Cm gem, try hard to understand it and to communicate its value, if you can find it.
