I love his books and i could hear Bob Gibson talk all day about pitching or his experiences in baseball. Some called him arrogant. I call him frank and honest.

He was good enough to be arrogant.. Interesting that he was a better basketball player... He has stated that his older brother and mentor Josh was also "arrogant"

In today's game they would only let them pitch 5-6 innings per outing, regardless of score.

Gibson was very fortunate not to have serious arm or elbow problems during his career. I guess he was just one of the lucky ones. And I’m constantly disappointed when interviewers fail to ask good follow up questions. Gibson said Joe Torre was one of his best friends and that he asked him to take a trip to Italy. But Gibson says he decided against it because he couldn’t afford it. Now there’s an opening for a good question. Why not ask one of the top pitchers of all time to elaborate on that point? One other thing. A lot of people have said that Gibson and Koufax were the best pitchers of the mid and late sixties, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard Gibson mention Koufax in an interview. But then again I haven’t heard or read all of Gibson’s interviews. And I liked his comments on penmanship and the way kids were taught when he was a schoolboy. When I was in grammar school in the sixties penmanship was a pretty big deal. But like Bob said, all you have to do now is pull that thing out of your pocket and google.

DannyH You are absolutely correct. The current playoff format is all about generating revenue. MLB couldn’t care less about having a true World Champion, they want the TV revenue that comes from the expanded playoffs. Like everything else, when something changes, it is all about the money.
