Lewis gets the asteroid Ceres confused with the dwarf plant Eris. But generally what he's saying about there being tons of big bodies zipping around the solar system is mostly accurate. A special kind of accurate called yoggcurate.
@AstroPsych_8 жыл бұрын
Even then, Eris probably isn't bigger than Pluto. While Eris's diameter is fairly precisely known (2326km), Pluto's is only known to be somewhere between 2300km and 2400km. That means that there's roughly a 75% chance that, among Eris, Pluto, and Simon, Pluto is the biggest dwarf. And, even if Eris is the biggest, it's only by a maximum of 26km, hardly half the size of a mid-sized city.

Did Lewis just said the Milky Way isn't a spiral galaxy?
@kanders73918 жыл бұрын
He was close actually, its a disk-shaped barred-spiral galaxy. Spiral galaxies have a lot more arms than Barred spiral. The truth is apparently not well known.
@kanders73918 жыл бұрын
Wiki: "The Milky Way is a large disk-shaped barred-spiral galaxy. A majority of spiral galaxies, including our own Milky Way galaxy, have a linear, bar-shaped band of stars that extends outward to either side of the core, then merges into the spiral arm structure." So take away two of those spiral arms at 8:07 and make the two remaining ones fatter, and that is what it really looks like. Sort of an exaggerated S. Other fun facts: Most galaxies in the Universe are dwarf galaxies, about a hundredth the size of the Milkyway. Many dwarf galaxies may orbit a single larger galaxy; the Milky Way has at least a dozen dwarf galaxy satellites. Our Solar System is located in the Orion Arm, 26,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way.
