Hello Aspec, hello dudes, I played around with MegaCorp a while, and for me the best combo is going full Trade Value. You can go Rapid Breeders + Thrifty, just to escape the bane of existence that is intelligent (everybody and their mom uses tech rush meta builds, just break the cycle), if you NEED a research trait, go for natural sociologists. If you want to embrace your trading empire, just go Thrifty like a boss, err CEO. So, my MegaCorp goes: Traits: Thrifty (+ optional intelligent, natural sociologists and/or rapid breeders) Ethics: fan xenophile + egalitaire (20% trade value is king, egalitaire gives you higher manager output (trade value and unity) Civics: Free Traders (dunno why Aspec didn't pick that one?! 10% Trade Value AND branch office value? Hello?) and either Brand Loyality (for early unity rush) or Private Prospectors (if you got a universe with a lot of habitable planets) or PR Specialists like Aspec did (that one is awesome for to establish branch offices early). Origins: relic world or prosperous unification. Strategy guideline: Activate Marketplace of Ideas asap, build commerece zones whenever you have the space/ idle pops/ space in your eco. Don't ever go energy districts (defeats the purpose of trade value imo) and destroy your starting two energy districts asap. Tip: you don't need your navy, grab the alloys out of your 3 starting ships. Change your main species living standard to utopian standards (more trade value) and you set to go. Grab 4, better 6, science ship and use 4 to check your area for choke points/ colonies and 2 you just send around to find your future trading partners asap. You don't need research so you can invest into establish comms with them. Your first tradition tree should be expansion (cost reduction for star bases), second federation (trade value and making trade federation). That's pretty much the early/ mid game. Now the best thing: find the one empire with the best resarch and become their protectorate. You can buy yourself out of that after a few years of research. Grab habitats asap, for those sweet trade stations (20% trade value is awesome). In 2280 you should get around 2k-3k Energy Credits. Have fun destroying the market. RT

I think that you’re forgetting that clerks are the worst job in the game. They make 2 amenities, one of which they use themselves, and 2 trade value, which with all your bonuses is 3 energy/1.5 energy and .75 unity. Maximum. An energy job is twice as good, and you can get a unity building instead of clerk one for far better results. The unemployed bonuses for utopian abundance is actually better than a clerk job, too
@revantair84974 жыл бұрын
@@kanyenortheast3546 No, not forgetting anything. Are Clerks a bad job? Yes. Do they need to be changed? Yes. Are you a MegaCorp? Yes, so you should actually, imo, pick stuff up that synergizes with your playstyle. You can only have so many energy jobs, but hundreds of clerks. That's the clerks main appeal, each city district gives you +1 and each commercial zone gives u +5 clerk jobs. You can have 200 pops on your homeworld and still have tons of open jobs. (I do love my Ecu trading worlds. ~1k Trade Value? Yummy) Is it min-maxing? No. And yes, you are probably right about the utopian abudance > clerk jobs, which only emphasize that clerk job need to be rebalanced. Like I already wrote: it kinda defeats the purpose of picking MegaCorp if you go full energy jobs. If you just want to min-max the game -> Tech Rush. (Which in itself is the current meta and totally out of balance. But meh PDX)
@RobBCactive4 жыл бұрын
I like the unity trade policy early too, without Federations I switch to consumer benefits. You can later stockpile goods, then switch to wealth creation and trigger inflation, especially with a Dyson Sphere coming ... You can use wealth to starve small empires of strategic resources and by big stockpiling, you can make prices unpredictable, so an empire that sells gas say, finds the market flooded. Changing laws too, look for market plays .. that's true capitalism, Stellaris can teach you a lot about economies. Any goods that fluctuate in price like alloys, can alloy speculative trading to be profitable. You buy cheap and sell a bit less at high prices, over time you build war chests.

Great Video. But i think you left out 2 important aspects of megacorporations: 1) Get into a federation as soon as possible and make it a Trade league. The trade league allows you to set you trading to not only be paid out as energy, but as the other two bonuses too. It will give you energy, unity and consumer goods, which is really powerful and one of the best things about a mega corp. (even better with some mods where you also food, minerals, alloys etc.) 2) Buy slaves! Once the galactic market is established, you have a great too to increase your population. Especially good, when you have a gaia world or ring world.
@RobBCactive3 жыл бұрын
My experience agrees, I switch trade policy early to generate unity and do expansion & science fast, then make a trade league. This minimises diversion of minerals and pops into consumer goods, as well as picking up more early research points by maximising the number of anomalies, surveying minimally to find the first colony. The downside is requiring more generation, but I mitigate that by selling food/minerals/consumer goods above market rates to contact empires reducing market fee losses and gaining trust to land pacts. I seem to take universal transactions and tech ascendency as first 2 perks. The extra influence having high value. If you don't get the federation, seperate diplo agreements starve influence, but fanatic xenophile is an alternative.

Other player will oust you in less than a year,by employing some enforcers,whether you are in the early game(with few pops) or the late game(with them easily being able to build multiple enforcer buildings).Once out,they will simply reallocate the pops and you would have wasted energy and influence. Been loving my first Megacorp, it's useful to be different and corrupt the normal empires with lucre. There are a few unclear things in this video. Firstly is how branch offices provide a benefit to the hosts. Early game the flat production of research, alloy, unity or goods are significant, the clerk jobs help the host develop their main worlds. In one the AI had very low amenities impacting stability, so I built a +10 which gives me credits and protects my investment. Later the % based multiplier buildings power up as the economy takes off. Secondly, there's a problem that you cannot integrate a subsidiary. I enlightened 2 worlds, one at Renaissance level rapidly became a manufacturing corp but "stole" the Galactic Market from me implausibly, as I spent massive credits and influence they could not possibly have had to fashion an exceptionally strong bid. I cannot build a branch office there (yet I can at my other enlightened subsidiary), rhey are stuck at one system, need my protection. I can only steer them via trade deals, out sourcing alloy, food or consumer production. The second, which was in machine age, took much longer to enlighten, despite having pre-cursor remnants from stasis pods to advance them. For some reason I can build a branch there, but I cannot give them key tech to build population and recover like I should be able. Apparently, you can release and conquer by war to integrate them, but that may backfire with a Federation as war veto or damage to member relations disliking aggressive war. In both cases, Stellaris is hampering natural development by HQ of the subsidiary which is simply too small as a one world operation to grow. Ideally they should be a franchise, ready to run my new acquisition. Finally, the use of colony ships to create pops and district hate is unclear. Branch offices and colonies cost double sprawl, including habitats, need influence alloys or cash instead of cheap minerals. Also, don't I want an ecunopolis to scale into mega engineering mid game? There's no clear game plan to go from the core, to ring word, Dyson and matter decompression fuelled major power. There is going to be sprawl and without spare admin capacity, one cannot digest new subsidiaries as reparations after a successful defensive war. Basically, there's no clear explanation of the intended mechanism of using the tall core corp, to gradually dominate the galaxy. If I play wide and build a central bureaucracy, I can fashion powerful subsidiaries backed by a hi tech Fed fleet, which benefit from all the tech efficiency exploiting space resources
@RobBCactive4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps Federation DLC changes more than Feds and some civics, but I would say Megacorp DLC is fun but still broken in 2.7. Probably the most confusing thing in game is the various war goals and it's interaction with ethics and war policies. A Megacorp needs to be able to make distant bases, but you cannot subjugate an FE, nor did I have the Containment option after it erred in declaring war against a rival Fed which out gunned it. You need more than vassal or a captive protectorate but also setup manufacturing subsidiaries that produce things to prices you set to enable other deals. Then you could encourage weak factions to develop sanely having seen their system resources. It's best not to enlighten as there's no way to integrate them and no worthwhile option, as you cannot tech them up and turn a sector into a subsidiary. A mechanism to give techs would help, my allies usually end up trying to catch up on research, which is quite impossible with just a few worlds. In general the changes to war goals needs an explanation, sometimes I got exactly what I wanted; other times I smashed up an FE only for them to peace out, regain everything and then promptly lose almost all their territory to current friendlies but long term rivals. Even attempting to subjugate an annoying empire that crossed me earlier over my subsidiaries after screwing up the first federation, resulted in direct gain of whole territory via status quo, as I eliminated them by taking every planet. Playing tall is tricky to do. I presume if I make a sector independent, it would be a rival corp. I ended up just building bureaucracy planets and just accepting the burden of running directly a huge number of planets.
@RobBCactive4 жыл бұрын
Much better balance on the interruptions than another recent video, thank you! This is re-watchable and recommendable. Shame on "Public Relations" it seems to be a Federations civic, which hasn't been heavily discounted yet A pure Megacorp alternative would have been helpful, I figured brand loyalty to help rush the Discovery tree made sense and I switched on an extra generator district to make up the ½ trade credit loss with 2 jobs. The alternative would have been Corporate Culture which seems less flexible and wouldn't house any pops. It means later I can delay a Civ Industry building by switching to consumer benefits or buying the cg with credits.

Of course even if they took the deal I could always be... persuaded to closing my branch office in exchange for resources so my friend can open his crime branch office
Private colony ships and 33% less empire sprawl from systems + 20 admin cap at the beginning helps you play wide easier than everything else imo - once that is full you can colonize a planet for admin cap usually. Also public relation + xenophile opening a trade league federation asap and xeno compatibility if you have it enabled. I would also go for egalitarian since utopian abundance once you have a trade league federation and the trade league trade edict that gives you unity and consumer goods is easy to keep up. Than go change your ethics to fanatic materialist and egalitarian and go synth, add -10% robo upkeep to your synths and expand,expand,expand. Your synths use so much less energy and consumer goods through all the - upkeep you get from going synth and the traits.

Unadaptable Considered Harmful!! Having played through Megacorps both with and without the Federations DLC, I think you should ONLY pick unadaptable if you have void dweller origin, which gives large habitat production bonus. Galactic Doorstep has been a fun choice for me, but increased amenity usage and lower productivity force you to build gene clinics or have 5 clerks on 2nd/3rd colonies. You need the generator productivity to buy art to help grow pops and have amenities boosted (Megacorps should benefit from needing less industry, so barter with trade partners can swap food/minerals for alloys/consumer goods). As the consequences of seeking blackholes to play tall and rushing choke points, has been bureaucracy planets (archaeological dig sites must be owned), I think having 2 bad single point traits is better. You can remove one later and add Natural Engineer or other changes. Probably picking deviant or maybe even decadent, as Intelligent/Thrifty pops are made for leader, management and mercantile roles. Naturally materialists should prioritise robot assembly, modification and droids to make for happy populations. A migration treaty allows founding mine/farm/generator colonies on other planet classes, which likely can provide resources that are lacking on the first 3 worlds.
@RobBCactive3 жыл бұрын
Tried out unruly trait, having bureau slots a little earlier is far easier than managing poor colony production & high amenity/cg consumption. I really enjoy watching these but absolutely envious at the same time only because I have the console edition to play and while there are less bugs (thanks PC players) there isn't same in depth game mechanics yet

I must say, it feels like this channel's quality has gone down a bit from the early days, or perhaps from how I remember it. This video feels like it's stuck between playthrough and guide territory, where it's trying to be a guide, but lacks a decent script and decent general explanation on the basics. Rather I noticed some basics being mentioned as they passed by, leaving me not very confident that everything you need to know is actually covered. This means that when learning from this video you either copy-paste the empire and decisions or try your own twist, but have gaps in your knowledge on how to strategise with this kind of empire. Aspec himself seems rather unfocused, often losing his train of thought or starting saying something with not being sure what he's trying to say. Over the years, I've become less and less interested in this channel's content for those reasons, because they seem to be present to some degree in most videos. I learned a lot in the early years of stellaris here, but lately I prefer stefan's channel for guides and lathrix for fun playthroughs. I understand that this is quite a hefty critique, but sadly this is how I feel nowadays. I'll keep checking in in hopes of seeing this channel improve, but until then I don't think I'll return to be a dedicated viewer.

Hey man, you do you. I always appreciate the critique. Even when it's as in-depth as this. I'll strive to do better.

@@A_Spec His opinion is not isolated. I'm in the exact same place. If you have a nice regular job, that's all good Aspec but Stellaris focused viewers are watching your content out of habit now, you lost me the spark. If you want to make overviews like this video, you should make a grand plan to make it structured and cover the game in multiple videos. Recently it's like you make a video with whatever came to your mind. Love you though ;) otherwise I wouldn't be here at 2am

I would personally define a Megacorporation as a "corporatocracy." A form of government where legislative, political and economic interests are handled by some form of corporate authority.
@desertdude82742 жыл бұрын
I feel like the idea of a Corporation still existing to replace a government is a little far fetched. In Alien Weyland Yutani is trusted to oversee the colonies of Earth of which their host nations pay the Corp to do. I can imagine a Mega Corp Gov functioning the same way where the Corps administrate space then hand it over to a host nation for a profit. In Cyberpunk 2077 The Mega Corps while powerful have not replaced the Government but rather they have become the most influential players in the Governments however the military was fully capable of purging corporate offices from it's borders.

My current corp playthrough is known as "The Interstellar Corporate Space Administration" A corporate board made up of space faring Corporations which are given authority in space by governments and planetary authorites.

The thing about megacorps is: I don´t like to be xenophile. And a xenophobe megacorp just kinda doesn´t work that well..

@@sqocks8254 The thing is. I´m so used to hate xenos, because they´re usually out to bite my arse. That i can´t really bring myself to do business with em. The sheer thought of being dependant on the xeno AI and their decision making of not starting unnecessary wars is kinda terrifying.

Throughout this video, you emphasize keeping your sprawl down a lot, but I don't think that makes sense. The increased sprawl penalty only matters if you go over the administration cap, which never happens, like with every other normal empire. Your best bet is to just expand as fast you can while building more bureaucrat buildings to stay under the cap, just like every other normal empire. Corporate empires staying small is just another thing killed by the bureaucrat system. They could fix it by changing the sprawl penalty into an increased sprawl production by pops/planets/systems.

“indentured assets“ is better than “slaver guilts“ since it also adds the slavery type of the same name. This allows slaves to also take specialist jobs for some more political power, but who gives a shit about the latter one?
