I don't think that logic works. The valuable thing with conquest is pops, the infrastructure is secondary. So long as they aren't forced to purge your pops or use them as livestock then people in MP are going to conquer your stuff.

This seems interesting. Using your Megacorp civic guide, I started a Crisis x25 game in which things goes a bit too well. I mean, the first two empires I met proposed to me to become Scholarium when they saw my fleet that was 3 times their own. So I turned on the 3rd empire and turned him as well into Scholarium. Right now, I am at around 2450, I have 12 scholariums boosting me science, I have a dyson sphere, a matter decompressor and a mega shipward since 2380. I then added a science nexus and a strategic coordinator center. I even ate a Fallen Empire (assimilating them since I have done my Synth ascension) a bit before 2400. Since I started with the Ring World origin, I now have the 3 pieces full + 8 planets running industrials districts (the vassal cover all energy, mineral and food needs + the mega structures). It is a matter of time before I turn myself toward the nearest 2 megacorps and their vassals to eat them up. I expect the crisis to show up soon (I delayed their arrival a bit though since I selected x25). We will see how bad it will be :)

Taking Franchising as the third civic seems like a very fun alternative to Naval Contractors because what's being done here in the Relentless Industrialist build is essentially a more bonkers version of the One Planet challenge using the Jeffs- it essentially boils down to stacking modifiers with the Ecumenpolis to get an absurd Alloy output. It is likely possible to lean into a more "peaceful" version of the build and synergize diplomacy with trade as a Megacorp- combined with the power to push an overwhelming fleet and essentially threaten neighbors into peaceful vassalage. Not sure whether you can exactly do a One Planet challenge with this, but the core tenets of that build are here.

Once you research robots, droids, and sythns you can pop off, but in essence your primary race lives in habitats, but establishes mining industrial colonies on planets using robots (and prisoners with jobs, maybe) and exploits planets to high hell.

Then come year 20 or so you could reform your government to gain the civic relentless industrialists for the bonus to alloy production going for a year 30 rush. Also, if you went clones at this point you may choose to descend or not while then going for the cybernetic --> synthetic ascension so that as your planets become tomb worlds it no longer matters as you have synthetically ascended.
