I have been a sub of this channel for several weeks now and I can confidently say you make the best Stellaris tutorial videos out there. Clear and easy to follow along with time stamps in the description for easy reference, they are amazing! I know you have a newbie tutorial series already which I have yet to watch, (Its next on the list) but it would be great to see a dedicated series on how to play the game from a more intermidiate to advanced perspective. You cover all the small details I have often wondered about clearly and I really appreciate it! That brings me to my next point. MAKE MORE OF THESE AMAZING GUIDES! They are so helpful with understanding the game and have given me a huge edge on my friends when we play together. I would love to see a guide on ship design, warfare, and tons of other things! A guide to some of the endgame crisis and how to beat them would be amazing too. We got destroyed by the contingency a few games ago and I have a feeling if I had a tutorial of yours to watch on how to beat them I would have survived. I would also love a tutorial on managing empire sprawl and how to improve that besides just building administrative offices and wasting building space. Keep up the great work!

Great Tutorial. Could use some improvements on optimization though. It's better to have dedicated stations because it boost the range. So instead of the split on ports/hangers you should just use one centrally located Trade port because even at your current level 4 ports means placed on a sector capital it gets all the trade in that sector since they have the same range. This is really great for you Capital World as Piracy doesn't apply until it leaves the station so your Capital with 6 Ports late game can pull in all the trade 6 jumps away without increasing piracy. Defending against Piracy is the other huge advantage with specializing Starbases because it increase the protection range. And Mid-Late Game stations with range of 4-6 protection can easily over lap each other so you end up with 3-4 stations covering the same area to reduce piracy. Another not is pirates don't spawn in systems with an upgrade starbase. So the last 2-3 jumps along the trade route where piracy is the highest it is great to have 6 Hangered bases as not only does it prevent pirates from spawning on those systems but also extends 2-3 Starbases worth of protection down the various incoming lanes. If you want to nearly completely remove Piracy late game though a super easy, and cheesy, trick is to build gates. Build a Gate on your Homeworld and then a gate on every Sector Capital with the Max 6 Ports and it will cover your whole empire easily while all the trade routes will go through the gate meaning no jumps and thus no piracy.

I haven't, and the reason for that is because I'm not versed well enough yet to do a tutorial. I'm still learning the nuances of it myself. It's a part of the game I don't engage in much anyway. And every time I post a Let's Play video where I engage with the senate, someone points out something new to me (which is great, but shows how much I still have to learn). I try and only make tutorials of things I feel knowledgeable about. And right now the senate isn't something I am well versed with.

Late game tip. You can use gateways to route trade between major hubs or even directly to your capital without worrying about protecting the intermediate trade routes. A station set up with 6 trade hubs and a gateway will collect trade from every world within 5 systems of any other of your gateways. That way you can convert some of your trade stations to other uses. Same applies to trade protection. A base with 6 hangers and a gateway can provide trade protection to any system within 5 steps of any of your gateways

Very helpful. Learned a lot about trade routes. Have you considered tutorials on influence (diplomacy) and research choices? For example, should you always accept research treaties? I find that I'm not getting enough influence because of all the treaties I have with other nations. It's very frustrating when I am looking for war and can't claim the territory I want before the war begins. Influence seems to be huge in exploring/settling new systems and war mongering (my favorite!). As for research, I have no clue where different research choices are going to take me. I haven't found a research tree telling me all the possibilities so I can determine what's best. A perfect example is my first game, I kept ignoring exoskeleton... and I was wondering when I could get robots. Didn't realize they were connected. There is often a specific research item I'm looking for, and I don't know how to get there. A tutorial on these two things, either separately or together would be great! PS - I just want to give you many thanks on the great tutorials and newbie playthroughs you've done. I've gotten SO much out of them.
@ColorsFadeGaming4 жыл бұрын
For Research Tree, check here: turanar.github.io/stellaris-tech-tree/vanilla/ As to the Influence question: I don't take every Research Treaty if I am intending to use my Influence for War Claims. But remember, there are other ways to win wars (Vassal, for instance). The lack of a full blown research tree in the game is one of my own gripes; I feel like the game would be far better if we could see all the options and paths. But once you get used to it, it's okay.

Commenting on an old video, so I understand if my question gets lost. I'm learning a lot about trade routes, but my games are still pretty fresh. Why are you doubling trade protection? Will one hangar bay's worth of protection not be enough as my trade value goes up? Do Hangar bays upgrade, and does that not increase their trade protection? TYIA, new subscriber! EDIT: I wrote this comment/question at about 10:30. You answered my question by 10:40. Lesson learned. lol
@ColorsFadeGaming3 жыл бұрын
Yep, hanger bays don't scale, and one of them won't be enough to do the job. Hence the "overlapping" hanger bays from different startbases. Eventually, the trade flow will exceed even what your overlapping starbases can handle, but by then (or shortly thereafter) you should have access to Gateways, and then you can direct trade much more effectively straight to the homeworld.

For trade I have switched to a key trade hub, which collects for the whole of the core sector or even to the planets in other sectors. Then you ironically ONLY have piracy where military bases interrupt the distributed trade hub collection. In late game one hangar bay base provides protection via gateway. Earlier defence bases are pushed out to the periphery in other sectors and choje points avoiding the dense trade volume caused by base chains focusing trade into high value routes. Later build gateways to connect provinces with central capital trade collection hubs directly. I repeated a game using the same map, where trade route protection was tricky and discovered the sector hub approach economises on bases and minimises trade disruption by hostiles.

Clerks are the least productive type of pop (other than unemployed) and you can get at least 2-3 times the energy from Technicians in Generator Districts. I kinda like your half trade hubs, half hangars split, but my personal preference is to fully specialise Starbases. 6 Hangars provide 60 Trade protection up to 6 jumps away, so that can be better than splitting. Starbases with max Hangars are also good for border protection. Starbases with 6 Trade Hubs can collect trade from deep side branches. Starbases with 6 Shipyards can build or repair or upgrade 6 ships at once. Unused slots can be spent on Anchorages and resource silos. Rather than setting Patrol Routes, it may be better to have one fleet of stripped down Corvettes per System, just big enough to have no Piracy.

I have a question that I kept thinking to myself whenever you said it in the newbie tutorial. Why do you say "in the black" for resources? The color is usually used as an indication that you're doing bad, along with like red. The color is white for normal, and yellow/gold for capped. So where is black coming from? I binge watched the newbie tutorial and now have a better understanding of the game!
@ColorsFadeGaming4 жыл бұрын
It's a financial term. When you're running a surplus, you're "in the black", and when you're running a deficit, you're "in the red." This is also why Black Widow, in the Avengers films, talks about having "red in my ledger" - she owes a debt.

NOTE: Trade Value is converted in a 1:1 ratio from Trade Value(tv) to Energy Credits(ec) when it reaches your homeworld. (Didn't hear that mentioned) So to determine if an area's value outweighs the needed starbase energy upkeep, just see if the trade it would collect is more. Starbases cost 1ec per tier, and trade hubs 1ec per module. So a Tier 4 Citadel with 6 trade hubs costs 10ec to maintain. It only needs to collect 10tv to stay positive! (An outpost is T0, and the 1ec for that is ignored.) Or phrased as, a T1 starport with 1 trade hub costs 2ec, and needs 2tv.
@RobBCactive4 жыл бұрын
Actually you can choose to convert trade into ½ energy credits + ¼ consumer goods or unity. This is useful for a unity rush (marketplace of ideas) or to mitigate boosting alloy production with the military economy setting with consumer benefits. You might even turn a profit in the market by selling consumer goods for > 2, making consumer benefits an energy generation strategy, as you gain more than with direct trade to wealth conversion.
@danielgrosvenor38544 жыл бұрын
Yet again, thank you for explaining this stuff! When it does come time to having ships patrolling your more valuable trade routes, is there a recommended distance for each patrol? I imagine that sending one fleet of Corvettes to patrol over ten systems would be a lot less effective than bouncing back and forth between two, for instance. And does having a ship docked at a station count towards piracy suppression at all?
@ColorsFadeGaming4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, because the problem with a LONG route for a patrol is that they're gone from a system for a long time, allowing piracy to fester. Now, that's not such a big deal if it's a strong corvette fleet (and yes, Corvettes are the best for piracy suppression), because they'll just mow down the pirates when they pass through, but it does chop off your funding for a bit. I've found that 5-6 systems is usually good, and if I have more piracy than that anyway, then I'm working hard on Gateways to get rid of it.

So I have a good grasp in terms of management now... I need to learn ship designs, battles, occupying mechanics etc. but you don't have a specific tutorial on this context. I guess I have to return newbie series part 6 & 7

not really a "newbie" thing but for anyone that doesn't want starbases everywhere later in the game, especially if you play on large maps. Once you have gateway tech you should set up a trade hub station with 6 hubs and on another system a hanger hub with six hangers, then build gateways on both of them and ANY place you want to grab 6 trade and protect 6 trade build gateways on that spot. Plus you can move around your empire quicker and say if you have a gateway on your homeworld with your fleet stationed there piracy drops to non existent in any system with a gateway, once you can get gateways and build them you should do so.

I’m still confused, despite the good explanations: So, do trade always have to end up in your homeworld? And, can one trade „ring“ symbol be harvested by two space stations in range, to deliver twice the amount it shows?

Yes, they always end up at your homeworld. And 'No' to the second question.

Re patrol ships - if you get any of the event ships like the raiders or recovered cruisers etc. eventually they become obsolete as your technology level increases. Rather than just scrap them and lose some of the history of your empire - assign them to interior anti-piracy patrols, so they can do something useful.
