- Is your newer Ford vehicle stalling / hesitating after fuel fill ups?
- Buzzing / Squealing noises coming from the right rear?
- Check Engine Light with code P1450 (Unable to Bleed Up Fuel Tank Vacuum)?
You most likely have a bad Purge Valve. These are notorious for failing and most shops will charge hundreds of dollars to diagnose and repair. I've found an average of around $700-$800 for reputable shops to fix / diagnose.
*********Please use this guidance ONLY if you have DTC P1450. Other codes (P0455,P0456,P0457) normally indicate something else and can usually be fixed by a cleaning of the EasyFill system 90%+ of the time.*********
THIS IS NOT A DIFFICULT REPAIR! It may seem intimidating, but with minimal tools and patience, you can save yourself HUNDREDS of dollars. You are not alone as this is an extremely common issue with these vehicles.
In this video I will show you how to replace the failed component and get the car's drive-ability and reliability back to how it was when it was new.
Engine - 2.0L Ecoboost (NOT ALL 2.0L Ecoboost engines use the part number below. Check VIN)
Ford Part # - GV6Z-9D289-F (Please have dealership confirm VIN before ordering this part)
Price - Roughly $210 USD
Install Time - About 45-60 minutes
Tools Needed - 8MM socket and driver, Flat Head screw driver, a few zip ties.
Similar Ford Platforms - Ford Focus / Ford Fusion
Notes /Edits -
- There are a TON of videos on how to do this with other Ford engines. Purge valves on some of those vehicles are EXTREMELY easy to change and access. However, the 2.0L Ecoboost is not one of those engines. It will require the entire, very large component to fix the issue.
- Even if your part number is different from the above number, the steps are remarkably similar throughout the different platforms.
- If this does NOT fix your problem (very unlikely), you'll be looking at more extensive work near the fuel tank (Vent Valve, kink in lines, etc. Both of those are unlikely)
- If your vehicle is still under the factory warranty, I would just take it into the dealer. This is more or less for people who's warranty's have expired and are facing a $700+ repair bill on something that takes 45 minutes to complete.
- There are different steps you can take in different orders, this is just how I did my repair. IE, you don't have to disassemble the entire airbox.
This video is not an official video on Fords recommendations for repair and therefore you should do this repair at your own risk. This channel assumes no responsibility in any consequent failure due to following these guidelines.
