Bought a bay on line. One tall, rangy stem. Think they were trying to justify charging for a 2 foot tall plant. If I cut the top off to pot, will the main plant branch more? Thanks

Can this be done anytime of the year? I’ve been propagating since the mid-70s and I know certain plants do better at certain times of the year. Also you do not recommend using a rooting hormone to speed up the process

Thankyou, very clearly explained. Why do you specify peat free compost?
@bluestarrbeauty3 жыл бұрын
Peat bogs are overharvested and it takes a very long time for them to replenish themselves. So more environmentally friendly not to use it. I'm guessing that's why.

Hey there, concisely put. Thank you We have an old wooden fence that has quite a substantial “tree” growing through it from our neighbours bay/laurel...would cutting one of the main stems (that’s growing on our side) be okay to propagate please? It’s such a beautiful colour, rich dark green but I don’t want to waste it. P.s our neighbours have given us permission. X

Could you use rooting hormone to speed root growth? Would you use the exact same method to take olive tree cutting? If not, could you show us how to take a cutting from an olive tree. Complete newbie. Thank you.
@rayw48043 жыл бұрын
Rooting hormone should increase the success rate and make the cutting root faster. However the compost is a big factor in success. If it is not VERY well draining and too dense (not airated) then the base of the cuttings can rot. I lost nearly all of my cuttings when I first started (videos make it look so easy..) Now I use a better compost with coir, vermiculite and perlite. You can also cover the top of the pot with a clear bag (I use 2L lemonade bottles with the base cut off). If you leave that in place until it has good roots it keeps the leaves from drying which increases your chances.

can I use a single leaf to regrow?
@BovrilTechnics4 жыл бұрын
No, there are 2 growth hormones in the plant that go back and forth. The leaf would be sending the wrong hormone to promote root growth. This is produced by the new growth on the top of the stem in the video.

is it true you can smoke bay leaves and they clam you?
@rr7firefly8 жыл бұрын
There are several KZbin videos indicating that you can burn bay leaves in the home to produce the calming effect that you asked about. I would caution you regarding smoking as this could introduce a highly concentrated dose to your system. Try the indirect method first and see how that works. (Careful not to set off smoke detectors!)
