Hi Michele quite a few years ago had a nanny job. . I was there about a year or so maybe two. The mother was due to have a second baby. She told me that she was going to give me a raise when the second baby was born when I first started out as the nanny my responsibilities were just for the child. Cleaning up the child’s room doing the child’s laundry ECT. When the house cleaner quit. My employer asked if I could clean the house as well. I said I wasn’t very good at it but I would give it a try. I willingly did it. Although not according to her standards. Then she asked me one day to clean all the patio furniture because they were going to have a baby shower. I did it to the best of my ability again she was not satisfied. The second baby came along so I waited for about two months to pass to give the mother time to get back to normal. After that time I did ask when my raise was going to start. She told me that she changed her mind and wasn’t going to give me a raise. Because the money she was going to give me went into fixing up their yard. So it could be as nice as the neighbors. Shortly after that my job became more challenging. I ended up not working for that family anymore.

But shouldn’t we be worried about the references if we continue to work in the same field!? I have tons of interviews lately and the first thing they ask for are the references letter. I was giving it to the most of the family that would ask for and then not getting back to me! Is it because they called them and found out I am not the right fit for the family. I have hear from a nanny friend that when we quit we give other reasons not particularly them, but they will not have nice thing to say about when the family calls and tries to learn about you. They would go positive and negative both ways!! So how are we going to address that kind of situations of knowing us first without needing the references. There are few families who would ask you to come on paid trial and see how you do with the kids which I do find it a good one to get to know each other period.

Hi Michelle, I am a great fan of yours! I did try but haven’t found any education for parents and nannies about the Live in nanny or live out nanny. Some families take the live in opportunity is a benefit for us nanny!? but I believe that’s the family needs who needs a live in nanny because they need someone in the house while they are out most of the time or busy or just want their own time. But there are families who pays you minimum wage and food and board are usually deducted which reflects on the pay clearly. I would really want to see what your opinions are regarding the live in nanny so we understand it clearly. Thank you

Thank you for the suggestion. At The Nanny Solution we do not place live in nannies so I do feel I have the expertise to speak on the subject.

Thanks for this video. I know it's good to mention the current rate in your area to help your employer decide to increase your wage. But I was wondering too. Can you mention during talking about a raise that you've had a job offer from another family for a higher rate of a certain specified amount. Or how would you go about doing this? Also in my current position minding three kids the youngest child will go to school from september 2022. which might result in me being offered decreased hours (4 hours less). Would it be fair for me to suggest to take on more house keeping duties (laundry, cleaning, or gardening which I normally don't do) to maintain working the same amount of hours?

It can be risky to put families against one another with a higher rate. You could be left with no job at all. I would suggest being clear on the rate you are wanting for the job and your experience and stick to that. If you want to work for another family who is offering you more money accept that position instead. Yes, you can transition from full time nanny to house manager with other responsibilities and thus keeping all your hours. Of course this is something you will need to discus with the family to ensure they want you to make this transition. It's a common issue in the nanny world. I'll consider making a video about it! There is a video about knowing your worth. Maybe this will help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4HHhqithb53mLssi=QNIuiFnvoKAdIo1k

Hello there- I had a quick question regarding asking for a raise. I have been working for the family I’m with for about six years now and have never received a raise. What would be the appropriate amount of percentage to ask for a raise in this case?
@TheNannySolution
@TheNannySolution 3 жыл бұрын
This is a difficult position to be in. If the family has not given you a raise in 6 years they are unlikely to give you a huge raise now. I would start by looking at what others are making in your market, your experience, education and job responsibilities. You can check out this other video as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4HHhqithb53mLs

I'm working as a nanny am going to finish my first month but i didn't expect a lot of work I'm doing without resting, I rest 22pm when I'm going to bed. I'm sacred if I ask for a raise they will be angry, I don't know .

I am sorry this is happening to you. It would be unusual after a month to ask for a raise. It sounds like you need to set boundaries for what amount of work you can get done in a day. You can check out this video on Setting Boundaries kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJulcnlmhq6ZkJo

What if you are really underpaid how you ask for a raise if you can't mention that?
@TheNannySolution
@TheNannySolution 3 жыл бұрын
Of course if you are underpaid you can ask for a raise and mention that. Many families who underpay, undervalue the nanny. They may not see the value in you and therefore it will be difficult to get a raise.

Most families are cheap and it's probably better to find another job. Find someone who gives a crap about their children being well cared for when they aren't around. Theses people over here paying 12 bucks an hour really don't get it.
@TheNannySolution
@TheNannySolution 2 жыл бұрын
I think that is an unfair generalization. There are many families who are paying a fair wage. Professional nannies where we are make $25 - $35+ per hour.

This advice does not work for many families. I work for an extra rich family. I got a fifty dollar raise a year and half ago before they had a baby. She is now 15 months ask for another 50 bucks and told me 20 a week is what they are willing to pay me. I do laundry for 4 ,dog duty dish washing, etc. I work like a dog. So now I can't live on what they pay me. I know my worth so time to move on. Bidens America can't live on what i make with inflation the way it is. This advice doesn't work for me
