October marked my 40th year painting. I started at a Corvette restoration shop in St. Louis in 1983. I was 13. The owner started me out painting frames and suspension and engines, and I moved quickly to full paint. It was around the time Dupont ChromaBase and ChromaClear came out and many of the bases were modified lacquers. Dupont reps told us for certain colors lightly sanding with 1000 grit dry before clearing was recommended for good adhesion. Good times. I do mostly full restorations, but occasionally paint a car worth taking completely apart and pulling all the glass to prep for paint, like a Grand National. With as much painting as I've done, I enjoy playing videos like this in the shop throughout the day just for something to listen to in the background. It's encouraging to see someone explain some skill or discipline as well as this, knowing someone who may want to start has a solid base to use as a reference and will get off to a good start. There are PLENTY of paint hacks giving garbage advice. It's good to see someone give a relatively basic tutorial, yet advanced enough anyone watching will learn something regardless their experience level.

I’d call this the definitive repaint video. It’s comprehensive but no less detailed than necessary to achieve a good result. Well done to all involved. I’ve owned my fair share of cars but 20 years on, it’s my black EG hatch I’d want back.

I Do gotta say, thank you. I Only recently earned experience in the body collision and painting field, with a background in automotive mechanics and a spread of diversity in welding and fabrication across all techniques outside of the newer process of laser welding. Overall, ill say this video allows anyone with a sense of common understanding, the idea to expand beyond this, to seek more from their creativity rather than just spraying cause the boss told you, or the manufacturer gave you the steps. What you provide is a means for people to dive into more of what it means to be unique... Creativity. ThanK You.

Things have certainly changed a lot since the days when I sprayed so much Acrylic Enamel on cars and pickups. I have been watching your videos and preparing for an upcoming paint job on a full size Bronco restoration and color change paint. I will be using an inflatable paint booth outside. I appreciate all the videos you have showing the thorough process to get a good job. Thank you so much for these videos. My confidence level has risen and my wife's dream car (suv) will be looking very good.

I painted a friends truck this exact color earlier this year, he wanted a full color change so i did pretty much exactly what this video says and it came out much better than I and my friend expected! He wanted it painted red and let me choose the color, after all was said and done he's extremely happy, really love this color. All I just need to do now is color sand it and buff it out, or possibly flow coat it if my friend wants to spend the extra money on clear. Love your videos btw, very informative and your motto hits the nail on the head "Don't over think it, it's just paint." Keep up the great video's Brian.

One of your best videos ever, Brian! Well done. My Mazda has that colour and the collision shop did a crappy job of matching the rear bumber they replaced. But they don't care. Insurance doesn't cover a perfect match or blend. It's a tough one.

Wow! This was a great video! Fantastic job with exceptional results. Now I understand why paint jobs cost as much as they do. You explained everything you did with great detail, and even gave us some good-to-know side knowledge here and there. Loved the video, I have a suggestion on your process. Try it and see what you think. So it’s the prep microfiber roll. I love using the same roll. Leave the package on, and pull out the center roll of cardboard. It’s not very hard to do. Then pull and tear from the center. It keep them cleaner and dust free. And if the roll falls off the car if won’t unroll, and the packaging does it’s job keeping it clean until the last couple. I know it’s a small thing, but I hated watching a few new rolls hit the booth floor by accident. They are much cheaper alternative to the paper shop towels in the box, but the box is convenient. So pulling the cardboard makes it just like the box. Paint on👍

That color is amazing. I'm really enjoying your vids. I started watching because I want to try to paint my s10 after doing some body repairs. It will be a frame off and total dismantle because it went through the 2019 flooding. It was ten feet under water! It's a mess! I'm kind of thinking a satin white. I should probably add that i have never done body or paint work before! I have painted cars with rattle cans a few times way back in the day. I have faith i can do this. And I'm an extremely skeptical person! Thank you for putting vids out like you do. It makes it possible for people like me to do my own work with less trial and error.

Mazda actually patented that color in the beginning. Soul red crystal. Mazda said they wanted the color to come to life and reflect the soul of the Master, or the artist/designer/painter. They developed a new and unique method/program/style/algorithim that allowed the robotic machines to move more gracefully and fluid when painting the cars this color. The story is very fascinating.
