Thank you so much Sir for taking the time and sharing this wealth of information. I have a 2002 Lexus IS 300 Sportcross but there are relatively none or few videos for boosting the IS with an automatic transmission until I saw your post. I am in no way, shape, or form an expert nor am I mechanically inclined to get into this kind of project especially that I am now 55 years old (boosted fogey). Knowing the list of items to purchase is a good place to start. Thanks a million SIr.

The part about the turbo oil feed really cleared up the main questions I had about the oil system, thank you! On top of that T-fitting, I plan on running a filter relocation that also has a port for an oil pressure sender for an aftermarket gauge. That'll help monitor failsafes and help serviceability with an FFIM. Man, this video really shows the ingenuity needed to successfully and reliably boost on stock ECU, brilliant!

judging from the shifts, transmission could use some shimming for solenoids for gears 1-2-3. will make a big difference and it will hold more power and wear those clutches slower.
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 2 жыл бұрын
It won't make a power difference unless there is slipping happening but there's not. I do however like the idea of better power handling ability but this setup would never need it. The car only gains about 120hp and the trans has proven for years now to handle the gains in stock form. To take the power any higher you would need standalone engine management and then you couldn't run this trans anyways

Question. I’m thinking about just tapping and drilling a hole into the top of the oil pan, and threading it to put a fitting on it. This allows you to run a hose straight from the bottom of your turbo and into the pan. Can’t be that simple can it?

Looking to do this with my 95 JDM import Toyota Crown (JZS-155), this video was helpful as there is not much info on turbo mod for my car, it has the same motor BUT the jdm vvti used the thicker connecting rods and can handle more power. My main issue is concern over the side there the exhaust is contains much more crowded parts over there due to the right hand steering so I am trying to figure out which manifold and turbo set is going to work best for me. Lots to consider, anyways thanks for the vid.

boost creep usually due to wastegate. Maf is not maxxed out? I have a turbonetics evolution with 36mm wastegate giving me boost creep as well.
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 4 жыл бұрын
On the second one of these cars I boosted I actually used a 60mm wastegate and it never had boost creep. The one before that was my personal car and I used a 50mm wastegate on that one. It did have boost creep issues. Both cars had a 60mm t4 turbo with a .82 hot side. So, small quick spooling turbo needs a lot of wastegate. On my personal car I could have upsized the turbo and still would have got rid of boost creep

I know you can do this reliable and get power but I really don’t want to turbo my engine without changing out the pistons and moving the crossover pipe. I’m not riding around in a turbo ge and I don’t have the abilities to do any of the stuff that I want to my engine so what do I know
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 3 жыл бұрын
It's not nearly as critical as you think with the lower boost level. The GE engine in stock form can hit about 500 horse at the wheels before it starts falling apart. This setup here just takes you from the stock 180 at the wheels up to about 280 at the wheels. It just makes it so the car isn't so damn boring to drive around it's not a race car and as long as it's maintained well and you're not beating the piss out of it while it's all heat soaked on a hot day it is reliable. Oil cooler is highly recommended

@@shagmike8672 I don't know whoever told you to splice anything but you don't need to modify a single part of the wiring harness on this car in order to add boost. Splicing O2 sensors together is the most horrible idea I've ever heard so please do not try it. You need Bank one sensor 1 up in the front exhaust runner and you need Bank two sensor one in the rear exhaust runner. The other two 02 sensors could go in a downpipe or whatever with O2 sensor spacers to keep away the codes for catalytic converter and for rear O2 sensors. he could easily get by without tuning to compensate but the wiring is hard to put all the wires where they need to be and the throttle cable is not long enough so you have to have something made and it makes you relocate a lot of things that are in front of the intake manifold so it makes it complicated to do this. There are also some incompatibility issues with the throttle body on those manifolds if I remember correctly it's very very complicated or nearly impossible to run a forward facing intake manifold with the stock ECU

I bent lines and did the bottom one from the bottom side. Removing the factory lines and cutting them to the length needed and bending them a more preferable route for your new set up makes it pretty easy.

Wouldnt the 02 sensors only be reading two cylinders worth of the fuel data then?
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 3 жыл бұрын
Yes but that's fine because those cylinders are equal and one is on each bank. The only way it would be thrown off is if the cylinder it's reading is misfiring. If you got a misfire it doesn't really matter how far off the O2 sensor readings are, you need to fix your car.

@@MrPhukyew a lot of the research I have done and asked about before I decided in a NA build before the NA-T is that the Brian crower 264 are a plug and play with recommended springs/retainers and the 272s are recommended a tune and ecu mod’s etc. I could go on about the boost build with the 2 different cams and all but I came across your video. I really like the descriptive video you posted and realized you are somewhat near me as well 🤙🏼
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 2 жыл бұрын
@@Static.jce10 no cams are plug-and-play. See when you add boost your goal is to add fuel in the required amount. Sometimes you can mechanically manipulate things like I did in my video to make that scenario work. Bigger injectors plus bigger mass airflow sensor makes bigger range of airflow that my computer can manage. The downside is I'm going to be prone to detonation because I cannot modify my ignition map. That means I have to take lots of precautions like smaller plug gap and colder plugs and large intercooler. But there's more to it than that because if I'm measuring my air flow at the throttle body which is the smartest way to do it then I'm also measuring my air temp at the throttle body so my cooler are temps are only adding timing. It's a very tricky scenario to manage and if you don't do it right you're going to have cracked ring lands before you can even get a fun race in. This is why we keep the boost low and the octane high. Using a different cam profile changes the entire ve table and when you do that without being able to modify your ve table to match your cam you don't get very good results. Idle will never be correct because bigger cam profiles need more ignition timing and less fuel at idle, while in the mid-range you might actually do okay in the top-end you're going to measure a lot more airflow than the computer is programmed for which is going to subtract a lot of timing and probably won't fuel it correctly so you will actually be slower. Essentially what I'm getting at is that you really don't want to change cam profile unless you can tune it properly there is no "plug-and-play cam upgrade". The best you could do for a plug-and-play cam upgrade would be adding just a tiny bit of lift to get a little more air flow everywhere. Even that could cause lean conditions without a tune.

@@Static.jce10 yes and 6-7 psi would have been optimal but those numbers can change with turbo size. I used a t4 with a .68 a/r hot side and a 61mm exducer. It had a 60mm inducer on the cold side. The trick is to use a bigger turbo than you really need and don't have unrealistic power goals. It will spool a lil later but pull hard. This setup is less prone to detonation as long as you can fuel it sufficiently. Use a wideband and try to get your afr's into the 11s under boost.

Can I still run it with Supra injectors without the fuel pressure regulator? I got the same set up but it’s demanding more fuel.
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 6 ай бұрын
Yes the green top non turbo 7mge injectors do fit but there is a little bit of ghetto rigging you've got to do with the o-rings to make it all fit. I ran mine that way without a regulator for a long time but it did need more fuel over 6 lb of boost so I ended up doing the regulator which fixed that and got me a solid 8 to 9 PSI. The problem with that is it might be too much boost for the factory ignition map so colder spark plugs and tighter plug gap help as well as making sure you are running the best quality fuel you can get from the pump. If you add a large oil cooler for the engine then it helps prevent detonation as well by keeping the entire bottom side of the engine much cooler. I drove mine year round here in Phoenix Arizona with the AC blasting all the time and didn't have issues. Using a slightly bigger Turbo helps a lot to prevent detonation as well. The turbo I had used probably was giving a little bit more hot side pressure than necessary which will create detonation. This car is still alive and doing well and belongs to a friend of mine.
