That's most of what your gonna need. Get 3" piping for your downpipe if your making it yourself or just put it all together and have your nearest exhaust shop make you a downpipe and then an exhaust

Thank you so much Sir for taking the time and sharing this wealth of information. I have a 2002 Lexus IS 300 Sportcross but there are relatively none or few videos for boosting the IS with an automatic transmission until I saw your post. I am in no way, shape, or form an expert nor am I mechanically inclined to get into this kind of project especially that I am now 55 years old (boosted fogey). Knowing the list of items to purchase is a good place to start. Thanks a million SIr.

The part about the turbo oil feed really cleared up the main questions I had about the oil system, thank you! On top of that T-fitting, I plan on running a filter relocation that also has a port for an oil pressure sender for an aftermarket gauge. That'll help monitor failsafes and help serviceability with an FFIM. Man, this video really shows the ingenuity needed to successfully and reliably boost on stock ECU, brilliant!

judging from the shifts, transmission could use some shimming for solenoids for gears 1-2-3. will make a big difference and it will hold more power and wear those clutches slower.
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 2 жыл бұрын
It won't make a power difference unless there is slipping happening but there's not. I do however like the idea of better power handling ability but this setup would never need it. The car only gains about 120hp and the trans has proven for years now to handle the gains in stock form. To take the power any higher you would need standalone engine management and then you couldn't run this trans anyways

You forgot to mention the important part is the secondary butterfly plate in the y portion of the intake manifold that needs to be removed and or kept in the full open position it will close on you when WOT full boost causing weird acceleration issues also the vacuum line connected to the fuel rail SHOULDN'T be blocked it has its own FPR already the one vacuum line you should delete is the valve cover going to the intake manifold that should be removed immediately because it pressurizes the valve cover and sump. No Bueno you'll be blowing oil pans off and bolts off doing that. But this goes for anyone who isn't routing the vac lines to the front of the turbo.

Looking to do this with my 95 JDM import Toyota Crown (JZS-155), this video was helpful as there is not much info on turbo mod for my car, it has the same motor BUT the jdm vvti used the thicker connecting rods and can handle more power. My main issue is concern over the side there the exhaust is contains much more crowded parts over there due to the right hand steering so I am trying to figure out which manifold and turbo set is going to work best for me. Lots to consider, anyways thanks for the vid.

Question. I’m thinking about just tapping and drilling a hole into the top of the oil pan, and threading it to put a fitting on it. This allows you to run a hose straight from the bottom of your turbo and into the pan. Can’t be that simple can it?

I know you can do this reliable and get power but I really don’t want to turbo my engine without changing out the pistons and moving the crossover pipe. It’s just the most proper way to do it and it’s the way to make the most power. I’m not riding around in a turbo ge and I don’t have the abilities to do any of the stuff that I want to my engine so what do I know
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 2 жыл бұрын
It's not nearly as critical as you think with the lower boost level. The GE engine in stock form can hit about 500 horse at the wheels before it starts falling apart. This setup here just takes you from the stock 180 at the wheels up to about 280 at the wheels. It just makes it so the car isn't so damn boring to drive around it's not a race car and as long as it's maintained well and you're not beating the piss out of it while it's all heat soaked on a hot day it is reliable. Oil cooler is highly recommended

he could easily get by without tuning to compensate but the wiring is hard to put all the wires where they need to be and the throttle cable is not long enough so you have to have something made and it makes you relocate a lot of things that are in front of the intake manifold so it makes it complicated to do this. There are also some incompatibility issues with the throttle body on those manifolds if I remember correctly it's very very complicated or nearly impossible to run a forward facing intake manifold with the stock ECU

Can I still run it with Supra injectors without the fuel pressure regulator? I got the same set up but it’s demanding more fuel.
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew Ай бұрын
Yes the green top non turbo 7mge injectors do fit but there is a little bit of ghetto rigging you've got to do with the o-rings to make it all fit. I ran mine that way without a regulator for a long time but it did need more fuel over 6 lb of boost so I ended up doing the regulator which fixed that and got me a solid 8 to 9 PSI. The problem with that is it might be too much boost for the factory ignition map so colder spark plugs and tighter plug gap help as well as making sure you are running the best quality fuel you can get from the pump. If you add a large oil cooler for the engine then it helps prevent detonation as well by keeping the entire bottom side of the engine much cooler. I drove mine year round here in Phoenix Arizona with the AC blasting all the time and didn't have issues. Using a slightly bigger Turbo helps a lot to prevent detonation as well. The turbo I had used probably was giving a little bit more hot side pressure than necessary which will create detonation. This car is still alive and doing well and belongs to a friend of mine.

Wouldnt the 02 sensors only be reading two cylinders worth of the fuel data then?
@MrPhukyew

Yes but that's fine because those cylinders are equal and one is on each bank. The only way it would be thrown off is if the cylinder it's reading is misfiring. If you got a misfire it doesn't really matter how far off the O2 sensor readings are, you need to fix your car.

On the second one of these cars I boosted I actually used a 60mm wastegate and it never had boost creep. The one before that was my personal car and I used a 50mm wastegate on that one. It did have boost creep issues. Both cars had a 60mm t4 turbo with a .82 hot side. So, small quick spooling turbo needs a lot of wastegate. On my personal car I could have upsized the turbo and still would have got rid of boost creep

how do you wire the O2 sensor together
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 2 жыл бұрын
You don't wire any O2 sensors together and I'm pretty sure I had gone over this in the video. The 2 02 sensors that are in front of the catalytic converters need to get put into the runners of the turbo manifold one in the front and one in the back. The 2 02 sensors that are after the catalytic converters need to stay in the exhaust (downpipe) but get spacers put on them so you won't get a check engine light.

in stock form there are actually four O2 sensors and the wideband makes 5. The bottom O2 sensor and the one that's further back in the tailpipe go in the downpipe/tailpipe and have spacers on them so that you will not get codes for catalytic converter efficiency. Also the wideband goes in the downpipe. The first two O2 sensors that are up top go into exhaust runners 1 and 6

2JZ-GE VVTI CR10.5:1 6 PSI ECR 12.46:1 2JZ-GTE CR8.5:1 11PSI ECR 11.24:1 18PSI ECR 12.68:1 ECR is equivalent compression ratio. Safe limit on the GE is 6psi, what's considered safe on a stock GTE is 18psi they have similar ECR. Coincidence? I think not. Detonation is what kills the GEs. Put 15psi in a GE and thats like putting 30psi in a GTE. Thats why ring landing failure is the most common failure in nat GEs.
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 2 жыл бұрын
You were pretty much correct until that last part, with proper tuning a lot more can be done than what's in your list there and there are lots of factors involved. The car in the video is on 6psi with no tuning ability at all for ignition timing. I'm not sure what compression ratio is factory on an is300 variant of the 2jz but ecr or "dynamic compression ratio" calculation needs cam timing involved to get an accurate figure. Ringland failure has little to nothing to do with this as typical ringland failure happens when you don't have enough ring gap for safe expansion. The problem you are pointing towards is detonation (I'm assuming) because your talking about compression ratio. Trust me when I say this car would be on 10-12 psi if I was able to properly tune ignition timing.
@blu3flare25
@blu3flare25 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrPhukyew Go past around 15 psi+ in a GE even with a perfect tune and it WILL blow the Ringland's because of detonation. Unless your running some crazy high octane fuel maybe. And i originally thought it must be that too, but no its not ring gap the GE has the same ring gap as GTE i looked in the manuals of both. So my point is detonation from high compression is what kills the GEs not the weaker internals necessarily like everyone says. So the high CR just adds insult to injury to anyone that doesnt do something correctly with a turbo ge setup. Ive never seen a bent rod on a GE only blown ring landings and GTE has almost same exact pistons biggest difference is its dished out for lower cr.
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 2 жыл бұрын
@@blu3flare25 a perfect tune wouldn't be detonating, I understand what you are trying to say but what I'm telling you is that on these cars I have no ability to adjust ignition timing so all I do is set them up with plenty of fuel and leave it at low boost and my customers love it

@@MrPhukyew Yea your setup is perfect and within the limit of stock ecu not arguing with that. Was just putting some info out there so anyone that reads it knows the Ringland's are the weakest link because of the high CR on the GE and ring gap is the same on GTE and GE as i already said.

Would 1UZ injectors work as well and potentially fix the lean out over 8 psi?
@MrPhukyew
@MrPhukyew 4 жыл бұрын
1uz injectors are actually the same size as 2JZ non-turbo injectors they are all about 250cc. To be honest we have to turn the fuel pressure up too close to 60 PSI on these 316 cc injectors so if you used some 440ccor something in that range you could probably run on slightly less than stock fuel pressure and have really good fuel trims and possibly hit 10 psi ish with good air-fuel ratios. But I can't promise you won't have detonation issues at that boost level and you should probably keep it around 8 PSI boost.
