This video should start with what needs to be removed when the step slider is on the vehicle.

These steps are everything I want in a step but they just don't work. The idea is there and its great hopefully a gen 4 might be better. I have gen 2 with the upgraded springs but they can't handle the cold and even on warm days they fail. I keep them lubricated with the RSE recommended lubricant and I clean them regularly but I fear I need a new motor as it only fully retracts 50% of the time. There really is nothing else like these on the market and being I have little kids (one with a disability) I suck it up and repair them. I just wish they were more reliable.

I agree with most of the comments here. My right side went out after 2 years. Replaced the motor and shock - problem solved. 3 years now, the left side is out. Installed new motor and shock in that one -- still sagging. Tried all the alignment tricks too. The motor just isn't strong enough to lift the step. With just a minimal amount of help it will close. For the price verses the quality, I would not recommend this step.

I have replaced the motor on the driver side twice. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I keep them lubed but doesn’t seem to matter. The motors simply can’t handle the weight & they fail after about a year. 😕

I have gone through two sets of gas struts and I just installed the new spring struts (which should have been free given they knew the gas couldn’t handle cold weather) only to find out the motors can’t handle the springs. They are sending me new motors (free for once) but honestly the nightmare it will be to remove the steps, instal the motor, then reinstall the steps…. I’m thinking no. I highly suspect the new motors will just burn out in a year due to the springs.

@@georgeonderko5273 yeah, actually my 2nd gen has been more reliable than my 3rd gen steps on my 392 go figure. that said, i still love them -- nothing else on the market anyway that can handle abuse off road and provide a retractable step. I wish they were more reliable but it is what it is. Had more issues in cold weather than warm weather. Replacing the gas strut with a spring strut on my Gladiator this week as the motor went out -- steps are about 3 years old at this point. Driver side went out in in Sep '21. Passenger side made it the full 3 years.

We were having problems with the driver side step, took to dealership they stated they contacted RockSlide about the motor and they are having trouble finding a motor to replace. Rockslide has a weak warranty, these steps are only 2 years old and turned out to be poor quality. I recommend finding another product.

I'm not happy either. Bought the Gen 2 on sale and then found our that gen 3 was also on the market. Didn't know Gen 2 has a known part failure. 2 years later the step is hanging on the driver side. Called RSE and they sold me the failed part and let me know about this video as instructions. Video is not a good one for instructions BTW. Now I know to expect to do this job over and over(: Feel cheated being sold something that has a known defect.

I love how they don’t send any instructions, assume you have their tools and work bench, don’t show the uninstall process, and are working on a brand new step clear of any road sediment or mud. These steps are a novelty item and can’t handle any sort of actual use or real life conditions. I live in the mountains and they can’t handle any sort of snow or ice build up and died in less than 1 year. Should have saved my money and regeared instead of buying these expensive pieces of crap but my wife and toddlers like them.

Do you need to take off the whole thing to replace the motor?

Did you have to remove the whole piece to install the motor?
@tahoeben2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to completely remove the steps off the vehicle to replace the motor. But you also need to keep the power source accessible since you have to open and close the steps to calibrate the arms while it’s off the vehicle. This company is a fcuking joke.

Worst product I have ever purchased for my vehicles. Poor customer service and no product support that helps. Save your money don't buy it.

My drivers side stays down about 1/2 and inch. And ideas. Any adjustments?
@itsmejp753 жыл бұрын
I’ve sent them pics, videos…no help. They just send you a video on how and where to lubricate. I have the same issue as you. This isn’t a lube issue. I’ve got my step off right now, trying to figure out how to adjust. There isn’t much to adjust. Good luck.

@@itsmejp75 I watched a video on installing the motor. And there’s one nut that you leave loose the push up on the hinge then tighten. I think it’s an adjustment screw. Going to try that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5W8Z6yoq89rm80 It’s at the 3min mark rockslideengineering.com/product/electric-motor-passenger-side-new-style/ Look at the pics of the motor

@@whahahajr I did it! Just loosened all the bolts and started from the beginning. Didn’t remove the strut though. Tightened in order. No more sag.
