Phil used to have collections for the homeless at his gigs and then matched whatever was collected from his own pocket. Great singer , great drummer, great human.

There is another song with a similar message . Runaway Train by Soul Asylum the initially was a a song about the lead singers problems with drugs , the video maker decided it was a song about missing people in America , it gained world wide attention and lots of countries adopted it to highlight missing people

Phil Collins was big in the 80's. He got so many great songs. Yo must react to, In The Air Tonight Live from Paris, and One More Night Live, In To Deep, Hold on My Heart, Easy Lover, Against All Odds.

You aren't the 1st person to fall in love with a songs pretty melody but miss the underlying premise of it's lyrics . Beautiful heartfelt reaction because of how your happy childhood memories attached to the melody made you initially feel as a child . But as a child you missed the underlying sadness of the song . I surprised you chose this as your first Phil Collins reaction . "In the Air Tonight" is arguably his most popular song . The LIVE Video of Phil performing it is Phenomenal . Highly , HIGHLY recommend that for your next dive into the Phil Collins pool . 🙂

Yes, all his live recording videos are GREAT. If it is the one with the blue lighting, the show is from Paris 2004 and may be Collins' best performance.....maybe the best by ANYONE!

He also took over lead vocals for the progressive rock band Genesis when Peter Gabriel went solo. " In the Air Tonight" was huge for Phil Collins. The Genesis video - Land of Confusion is great. Peter Gabriel was successful as a solo artist as well. Disturbed & Ghost have both released covers of Genesis songs.

It is a paradise if you are not homeless. That's what he means. Very significant song, so good. Nice to see you get another - new - relation to this song. Enjoy it still, but differently. :-)

Such an effective video. Phil Collins has many videos and many great songs, some with heavy messages. Don't feel bad about not knowing the meaning. '70s and '80s often had heavy messages with light and beautiful music. Ironic is a good word for it and Collin's message is meant to be ironic. I liked your reaction very much and your sharing a view from Brazil (or is it Brasil). I am American and like seeing and hearing other views. Phil Collins wrote this song after a concert he gave in Washington DC. Going to the hotel he saw homeless in the street and asked the taxi driver what demonstration it was. He was shocked to learn that these were homeless people living in the street of the nation's capital. With so much wealth in the country, how could this be. So he wrote the song. Amazing. More Phil Collins. You might also look at Genesis. They have a vary wide variety of music. Soft and hard rock. 'Mama' is a fantastic music video, but the subject matter is rather shocking.

Your next Phil Collins reaction should be to 'In the Air Tonight' live from the "Finally...The First Farewell Tour". Chances are you have probably heard it before but you need to react to it when he did it live at this concert, which came out on DVD.

I am an english speaker, but have a hard time hearing lyrics songs. I liked this song when I was young. In fact, it was my mon who introduced me to Phil Collins. But because I never knew the lyrics I just that it was a catchy tune. I am older now (50s) and for some reason I can hear lyrics better, maybe I listen better or maybe seeing lyric videos and watching reactions I understand it more. Now every time I hear this song, I cry. I mean the story of the woman - it hits me in the gut. Sepia is the word your looking for (the brown filter).
@rk41gatorАй бұрын
Yes. Sepia is the word. I too ignored the lyrics in my youth. Now I find the lyrics bring so much more to the music.

I'm about your mom's age. I was born in 1961 and I have to admit that I have heard this song a hundred times on the radio since 1989 and I never had an idea what it was about until i saw this same video in another reaction about a year ago. I see so many people react to this song. They start it laughing or with a smile on their face, until the lyrics and images knocks those smiles off as it did with you. You have no idea until it hits you. Thanks for showing your real emotions as those that hide them are not real "reactors". I'm a 63 year old man and i shead tears now when i hear this song, when before I knew what it was about, it was just a bad ass song that i jammed on my radio. Oh, that Earth picture resembles a famous picture taken by the crew of Apollo 8 on December 24, 1968 as they were orbiting the moon for the first time in history by humans testing for the future moon landings. When their spacecraft came around the moon one of the 3 Astronauts (William Anders) said, "Oh my God! Look at that picture over there! There's the Earth coming up. Wow, that's pretty." And he grabbed a camera and started snapping pictures of it. You can Google, "Earthrise" and see them. Those photos are some of the most reproduced photos in history. Anders was interviewed fifty years to the day after taking the photos where he said, "We set out to explore the moon and instead discovered the Earth." Those beautiful Earthrise pictures was taken on Christmas Eve 1968. Their broadcast were being heard live around the world and on their ninth orbit around the moon, they wanted to send a special message to people on earth that would show just how far mankind has come to get them there, but they fumbled with what to say and they happened to have a Bible on board and each of the three Astronauts read a few verses of Genesis. William Anders read verses 1-4, Jim Lovell read verses 5-8, and Frank Borman read verses 9 and 10. They called the message what was to become a "Controversial" message, "The Apollo 8 Christmas Message". I remember it from childhood and still find it inspring and emotional. The message can also be found on Google and youtube.
