I feel like I didn't answer the "Is it safe?" question. Yes, hostels are safe. If The Shining didn't stop you from staying in hotels, you can stay in a hostel. 🏩 😁 And yes I said $16/night.

My first time in a hostel was at age 52 and I was very comfortable. I've only had one "not too great" hostel experience. But that wasn't the hostel's fault. I love meeting the younger crowd.. In Croatia we all went out for pizza and then watched a soccer match (my first) at a bar. I prefer hostels to hotels for several reasons. One being the price! I like to travel solo and staying in a hostel is a good way to meet others and both get/give travel tips. I haven't been to Asia or Africa yet but they are definitely on my list!

This is a perfect video for me because I haven't stayed in a hostel since I was in my 20s in Spain lol

They're really adult-friendly now. Especially for digital nomads who need quieter spaces but still want to socialize. 😁

I’m 76 and will spend two nights in a Seattle hostel, private room with a shared bathroom. I’m actually looking forward to this new experience. Plus I’ll save a bundle of money over a standard hotel. I’ll use the savings for restaurants and sightseeing

Thank you for this. I am 40 something and planning my first ever trip to Europe, solo female. When it's safer to travel. Most info is geared towards younger people, so very helpful to know I won't stand out so much just for my age.

Thanks I was concerned about being in my 30's and staying in hostels as a solo traveler but now I feel much better thanks :-D

Glad I could help! Once you do it, you'll wonder why you were so worried about it in the first place. 💗

Thank you Stephanie for being the voice for black female travelers. I love traveling and I have used hostels for almost all my trips and I am definitely older than 40. I want to see the world and to do that I had to decide to travel alone or I would never see it. I will start traveling again as soon as it’s safe to travel again.

what ratings should you consider on HostelWorld? Said another way, Should I only look at locations rated 8.0 and above, 9.0 and above? Btw, you should have way more subscribers!
@StephaniePerry5 жыл бұрын
daoistdansah54 Great question! It really depends on how many hostels in that city are in your price range. If there are a lot to choose from, you can search 9s and up. But if pickings are slim, you might have to lower that to 7.5. High 7s and 8s are usually still comfortable and clean and have good customer service, but maybe are missing those extra touches like evening get-togethers or a swimming pool. And thanks for the kind words! I’d really appreciated if you’d take a second to share the video. 💗💗 Happy travels!

I love hostels.❤ I used to work in one and found out about workaway that way as well. Some are sketchy but always read the reviews 😂you don’t want any bedbugs traveling with you.

Great video- very informative! I'm not 30 yet- but almost hehe .. And I've still stayed in hostels up until now! So many of my friends ask if they're "safe" or just places to party, and while there are many like that, I've also stayed in hostels that are nicer than some hotels I've stayed at! If you're looking to meet others and travel on a budget- hostels all the way!!

Wonderful video Stephanie! I've stayed in hostels in London and Alaska and especially enjoyed the latter when meeting people from all over the world. The kitchen area was key for interaction. Thanks to your video, I will include hostels again. I prefer a private room, especially since I'm one of those "snoring men" you referred to (LOL).
@StephaniePerry5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the kitchen is key. It’s where you meet people and where you save the most money by not eating out all the time. Thanks for watching! 💗

I have stayed in a hostel in Korea and it was not the best experience, so I am heistant to do it again. Though I may be going to Poland soon and have not found a work stay that I like over at HelperX, so I am thinking of trying a hostel again. Thank you so much for sharing this video!

There are some wonderful hostels in Poland. I know you'll find a great place to stay. 💗 Also check out WorkAway for work exchanges too.

I love this video Stephanie! I am also a fellow hosteler and totally agree that hosteling can be very different from how it is portrayed in the movies. I often stay in hostels with my partner... I've also stayed in hostels the night before job interviews, or worked from hostels... they are so great!

I think a lot of people would be shocked at how convenient AND budget-friendly hostels are today. Thanks for watching!

This reminded me of The Amanda Knox Murder trial of Meredith Kercher, a fellow exchange student who shared her apartment in Italy 🇮🇹. It scarred the life out of me. Ppl from different walks of life, U don’t know anything about their backgrounds 😱! Please exercise extreme caution when abroad 🙏🏾!
