As always great info. I'll be trying it tomorrow. There is a guy who usually starts in a wide combat base and I have a hell of a time keeping him from getting side control because he is strong. I can usually only beat him with better technique and this could work. Thanks Stephan!

2:09 is such a great idea. Never thought about using the lapel as an arm drag but modified :D

I've been working on de la Riva a lot lately so, if they leave a gap, I'm swinging the hook in there. Push forward with the hook, block their other knee, grab a lapel, base out and sit up.

So much information packed in a short video. Thank you
Excellent. A lot of that translates well to no-gi too.

Quick question: At 3:28 Stepahn gets into the "deep half guard", which I never heard of. Could someone explain how that is an advised position counting as guard? It looks pretty darn dangerous to be in, would appreciate a short video covering this one.

Kasper Hauser I'm just an experienced white belt, but I'll try to explain...it's usually acquired when your opponent is postured up in your half guard and has space between their legs. You dive under and extend the leg that you have trapped. The place where you see Stephen at 3:28 is actually great for sweeping because he's keeping tight control of that leg. All he needs to do is rotate under it, and he could take back or else sweep to side control.

Also, notice that Stephen's left foot is lifting the ankle. That's an important detail that will keep that leg out of commission.

Kasper Hauser It'd probably be a lot easier to see it in a video though. It should be all over KZbin.

Any time you are fully under your opponent, you disrupt their base. Without proper base, it is very easy to sweep.

could you use these similar sweeps against a failed scissor sweep when they post that leg out so you cannot sweep that side?

Awesome x guard sweep!! One question though would I also be able to opt for a de la riva sweep?

I just grab the lapel with my left hand and grab the pant leg with my right hand and just bulldoze into them. It forces them on their arse and I get to work on a pass. It's been great for me to work on my passing. For the record I'm only about 150lbs so it's not a meat head move.

When do you ever see combat base against seated guard? If your opponent isn't smart enough to to control the legs in that position an thing will work.

Single leg x, or, Boa guard. Which is less of a mouthful? That's what I thought. Imagine if everything you said, you had to write out.

I have honestly never heard the term boa guard before. Ah, the joys of jiu-jitsu terminology!
@kingwilly804111 ай бұрын
@@StephanKesting You haven't heard it before because I just came up with it a little earlier, LOL. I've heard "single leg x" also called "Anaconda" guard but that just as much of a mouthful as, "Single leg x." Anacondas are part of the boa constrictor family and operate the same way, hence the name but "boa" is only two syllables as opposed to four. You heard it here first, LOL. Another one I came up with is for, "Reverse De La RIva." Whoever came up with that one should be slapped. I've heard "spiral" guard, which is better, but how about "vine" guard? Yet even better and only one syllable. Don't forget that, once again, you heard it here first, LOL. I've loved your videos over the years and greetings from a fellow Carlson Gracie lineage black belt.
