I don't think it's about the attention of a farewell tour that he's concerned about. It's about having to say goodbye for 82 games, the stress of missing a game on the farewell tour because of an inury. That would be a long, exhausting and maybe even depressing season knowing that you're headed to the finish line. He may take some advice from Brady, wish Kobe could've guided him on what to expect if he does it. If you've ever worked anywhere and enjoyed your job and coworkers, it's hard to say goodbye when you know that you're leaving.

When I retired from the Marine Corps they wanted to plan a full ceremony, and I told them that it would be easier for me to just fade away quietly.
