What Stephen A is describing is personal responsibility. You’d be foolish to jump into a deep pool knowing you can’t swim all because the lifeguard is supposed to “be a professional” and save you. Same with police, don’t put yourself in a situation where your life is reliant upon the professionalism of a complete stranger.
@melvinwatson57242 ай бұрын
Personal responsibility is definitely important. This applies before, during and after a challenging situation. Mr. Hill apparently took responsibility for his actions afterwards. Some people are finding fault with this; but he did so nonetheless. Now, it's time for the officers to take both personal AND professional responsibility for their actions; which lends itself to a larger discussion. This is what the woman was alluding to in the video. She was accurate. Accountability and responsibility aren't just Mr. Hill's to address. As humans, it's the duty of everyone involved in the situation. This notion that "if people would've just done this, and not that, everything would've worked out better" isn't always true. There are many instances where people "did what they should've done"; but didn't make it out alive. It's time to be more vocal and use challenging situations as a springboard for OVERDUE CHANGES. Otherwise, the next generations will live in a state of complete submission, compliance and fear.....all while doing as they're told.
@dmfnigel48292 ай бұрын
@@melvinwatson5724 Very well said, and I agree. You’re absolutely correct, doing the right thing in these situations will not always work out in your favor. I just disagree with the pervasive notion suggesting that us, as black people are completely helpless in our interactions with police.

Ok, let's get one thing clear. I, as a white man, was also taught to roll down my window, keep my hands on the steering wheel, no sudden moves, yes sir, no sir, and if necessary, can you call a sgt/lt/supervisor. That's what you do if you don't want to be dragged out of your car and get your ass kicked. That's the facts of life. People attack LE all the time, so they have to be jacked up and ready to go at all times. If his mama taught him better, as he said, he would have complied with the officer. I would expect the same treatment as a white man if I acted in the same way. It's called personal responsibility. If you know better, then why are you acting like an asshole? It's called provocation. I figured out at an early age, that if you fight with the police, run from the police, mouth off, or resist, you're still going to jail, you'll just be tired and beat up when you get there. If he had kept his mouth shut, been respectful, and rolled down the window, he would have received his ticket and been on his way, period. But then, to say, "I don't know why I got hands put on me," is a lie and disingenuous, and then to cry racism and call for the cop to be fired, is wrong and should be punished. Failure to comply is a crime in most states. I think he should be fired, or at least suspended, for several games. He wants to take this man's job because he is an entitled asshole and the cop is out there trying to protect the community from idiots like him. What a douchebag. Consequences.

Under most circumstances I would agree with everything you're saying, but I've seen instances when the person was compliant and still caught a beatdown so the point still stands. What do you tell them? Now I understand some people can get mouthy, but the police need the proper training on how to de -escalate an incident not instigate one. They're suppose to be the trained professionals so they should comport themselves as such.

Both sides of the story have blame and it starts with Tyreek. No man or woman of any race should act that way at the beginning of a traffic stop. The mistakes: 1. Didnt roll down the window at all and the officer had to knock. 2. Didn't roll the window down all the way. 3. Immediately started interrupting the officer by saying the same thing over and over in a childish manner. 4. Before the officer could respond and begin the process of the traffic stop, he rolled the window back up and wouldn't roll it down. The officer made mistakes by: 1. Pulling him out of the car too aggressively without at least a standard pat down while standing/talking. 2. No reason to use handcuffs. Since mistake 1 happened, emotions rode high and caused this mistake. 3. The other officers could have calmed down the first officer verbally after he started getting overly aggressive.
2 ай бұрын
Hold on --You are not legally required to roll down your window before the officer approaches the car and requests anything of you. If that is not a legal requirement then it is not reasonable to use that against Hill. Too many of you are sloppy thinkers. You don't know the difference between a preference or recommendation and the actual law. Don't begin with condemning a person for not following something that they are not legally required to do. OFFICERS ALREADY KNOW that this isn't required at least until a request is made that requires the driver to do so. #1 is bogus. #2 is also bogus. The window when opened is not required to be a certain height. All of this is discretionary between the officer and the driver. The usual transaction requirement is to give the officer what is required for a traffic stop --meaning license, registration, and insurance if requested, and to answer any reasonable questions related to the stated violation.
@foxacres4202 ай бұрын
Don't get confused about laws. That's not what we are discussing. If Tyreek wanted to handle this situation properly, rolling your window down is a sign of respect and safety. If you do that, then the police have less to worry about. He doesn't HAVE TO because it's not a law, but if he did roll his window down, things would have been much better.

OOK, here is what I saw. Tyreek, on his way to the hyped up was in an aggressive mode. [Side note; the cops was talking to themselves, no radar gun and no equip to know how fast he was going. It was weird a base, Tyreek passed across where they were taking a break. They saw him moving fast and took off after him.] Tyreek pulled over, and commenced to get his credentials in order. The cop comes over to the car window and uses a knuckle knocking against it to get Tyreek’s attention. Tyreek hyped and in an aggressive mood tells the cop don't knock on my window like that. They go back and forth and Tyreek wants his window closed. My guess is he blasting the air conditioning. The cop decides to make lowering the window an issue. At that time big bear police cop comes over to get Tyreek out the car as the other cop wants him out the car, more than likely to teach him a lesson in respect. Big bear grabs him up and they about to do the dance. They put him on his belly, on the roadway to dirty his clothes purposely. While they have him on the ground, they are going to handcuff him. So, when they get his wrists together, big bear his knee on Tyreek's back, since most likely, and when they put the handcuffs on, the knee went onto the cuffs. That didn't last long, but they walked him to the sidewalk and the one cop wanted him to sit down. Tyreek is like no, I don't want to sit, and so Big Bear comes over grabs him roughly and bends him up and makes him sit. To me the cops were of the same complexion and their altitudes where similar also as a smaller cop was dealing with Calais, and had no reverence. I felt he was acting like the other cops were acting. What did Tyreek do wrong? He had a tude, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't school marm compliant, but it was enough to get him tuned up. What did the cop do wrong? He didn't know or didn't care, that the occupant of the fancy Italian car moving fast was a professional football player. He could have asked, but he had an attitude to when he banged on the window of a very expensive. I would have felt some kind of way too! He could have had a conversation the 5 W's, found out he was a ball player, write the ticket and that would be that. Tyreek was smart and lucky. He immediately called his lawyer drew Rosenhouse and he was on the phone with him the entire time he was getting roughed up. My opinion, Tyreek a good citizen and it shouldn't be cops play the lottery who on they decide they going to beat up. Now, at some point them cops learned Tyreek was not bluffing, and 1 of them went down hard. 1st thing they need to do is to bust up that group as they all pulled out after a speeder for no reason, Tyreek had not been approached when they lined up behind him just in case they had to jump him. Because that drive those kinds in cars usually deserve a good beating when there is a reason to pull them over.

This is what's wrong with black culture. To many of us got the mindset of a victim. No one mentions the fact that he was speeding that started the whole incident. 30MPH over the speed limit is arrestable, by the way. Talking back to the cops when you're wrong and acting ridiculously privileged by putting up your window only after you no you're getting pulled over to start a conversation aggressively by saying don't knock on my window like that 5 times. Yelling out of your window that you out down 2 inches and say you can't tell me what to do. Being told to sit down and you claimed you just had surgery but is literally headed to a game of mortal combat. And gaslighting everyone. Mean while, there are over a million cops nationwide, and these highlighted incidents, which are overwhelming false accusations, get all the attention. Meanwhile, black people shoot themselves to pieces in the inner cities but get gets no attention. Now that's crazy. Lastly, every generation before us delt with more discrimination but as soon as we get this close to eliminate racism the media and democratic party brought it like it's 1999.
