It’s not religious, so much as him using “Jesus Christ” within the theme of the album to be an analogy for kinda everything that exists. It’s a really long explanation, and I’m not doing it justice, but I’m an atheist now and was when this album came out, so I was skeptical too. But my much less open minded hard liner 18 year old self was satiated by his explanation.🤷🏻‍♂️ As were a lot of diy hipsters (it was 1998 when it came out I think) who would want nothing to do with overtly Christian music. Hell. I remember the guitarist for Botch was into it. In the diy scene that album was a big deal.

Didn't think I could like him more. I was wrong. As a Tolkien fanatic he is one amazing guy.
