Enjoy our latest video for our new single, “Stephen Hawking Sings Monty Python… Galaxy Song” which is available as a digital download from 13 April, and on limited edition 7” vinyl on Record Store Day 2015.
The song, which is the title track to “Monty Python - The Meaning of Live”, was originally written for the 1983 film, “Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life”. It has been re-recorded with the lyrics sung by Professor Stephen Hawking.
Written by Eric Idle and John Du Prez, the song is an intricate and informative lecture on the enormity of the Universe fashioned into a bewitching and, above all, highly amusing pop song.
“Galaxy Song” was previously included on the 1989 album “Monty Python Sings”, and included in the 2014 reissue of the album, “Monty Python Sings (again)”, in its original form - sung by Eric Idle - to coincide with Monty Python’s record breaking “Monty Python Live (mostly) - One Down Five to Go” run of 10 live shows at The O2, London. On film during the live shows, Professor Brian Cox berated the scientific inaccuracy of the “Galaxy Song » lyrics before Professor Stephen Hawking knocked him to the ground. Hawking then began reciting the “Galaxy Song” lyrics as he lifted off to journey through outer space. It is this unique rendition of “Galaxy Song” which is now available as a single.

Pardon me to intrude, but placing an apostrophe after the "s" in "planets" implies that we as humans have established life on other planets. May Mr. Hawking finds peace in the afterlife though, he deserves his eternal rest.
@SplitWasTaken
@SplitWasTaken 6 жыл бұрын
ivan terrible don't try to turn this around. You obviously were referring to our planet as in "our planet's IQ dropped". Not only did you not accept the fact that you had made a mistake, but you felt the need to spew falsity by declaring that an apostrophe after the "s" marks possession, which is completely wrong because ('s) demonstrates possesion as it is and the apostrophe is only placed after the "s" when the word itself already has a "s" at the end.

I love his smile when he's listening to his singing. I'm so glad he was able to do it. What a well respected (and loved by so many) wonderful scientist he was. He made theoretical physics and cosmology accessible to the lay person. But not only was he a great scientist, he was a quiet inspiration to anyone with ALS and proved that anything is possible when you work for it. There is a line from a song in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" toward the end, "Don't dream it, be it." Stephen Hawking became "it". Rest in peace and tranquility amidst the "stars", Dr. Stephen Hawking.

Whenever death gets you down Mr Hawking And things getting hard or tough And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft And you know that you've had quite enough... Just, remember that you're leaving a planet that's evolving And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned A genie that was the source of all our power The sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see Are moving at a million miles a day In an outer spiral arm at forty thousand miles an hour Of the galaxy we call the Milky Way Rest With Pace, Stephen.

Why? Science isn't the creation of humans. Its the observation of the universe, of which almost all of it is out of our control. All this song does is remind us how insignificant we are, and it doesn't pretend to do anything else. I find this a much more profound collection of words, personally: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sITKmot9erGdmMU

Of course I don't think the wording is the best for a 3 year old, but I just find the humour that goes into Galaxy Song requires a certain level of cynicism we wouldn't have if we were in a better place as a society.

This made me drop a tear. The whole python montage, made me realise, that there will be a time, with no pythons being alive. We all remember Graham Chapman, who died of lung cancer, quite early in 1980, and Terry Jones, who has been diagnosed with demensia. Amazing to think, that from a little show from the sixties, recorded onto film, they now still make content, recorded in digital 4k, fifty years later. Rest in piece, big cheese, even though you never found the fillings.

Graham's cancer started with the tonsils, apparently. He died on the 4th of October 1989, with only Michael Palin at his bedside at the moment of death. [Michael Palin's diaries, Travelling To Work] I've just posted an excerpt from Michael Palin's diary from those days on another KZbin video. May his memorial do us service.
