I thought the fact that he wrote himself into the story was brilliant! Was some of my favorite part of the series so far.

I agree. I think it is a wonderful way to break down the walls of conventional fiction. And it isn't egotistical. It's more the fact of his love affair with the story, and the epic connectivity of King's universe. There are no boundaries in this world King has created so why not go all the way if he can! Brilliant is definitely the word

Yeah and he doesnt even paint himself in a good light either like he was gona drive with his son after a few beers and didnt think twice . I feel its no ego just a cool idea he had and I for one enjoyed it.

Agreed

I never understood why people thought it was egoistical of him to write himself in the book. For me it was pure genius, because of what the Dark Tower universe/lore is, what is the greatest example possible to prove it merges all realities than using our own world. Not the version of our world that can exist in everybook, but the one we, as reader, think as the real word : the one where the dark towers are books written by Stephen King.

i (at first) thought it felt egotistical to put himself in the tower series, but at the same time, i have never seen it done in fiction before, and it was mind bending to read, like most fiction should be, and loved it

I was looking for a good review on this book and I think I have found it. Thank you. One thing that sticks out though is that you said you didn't give it a high-ranking because it is "mostly informational" being part of a series. This in fact is probably what makes the book worth reading (If I can get some time to put it in my schedule).Total no. of pages *411I guess the person who suggested it from a Mandela Effect blog was trying to say Mr. King was somewhat of a prophet of sorts....writing into life what he imagined (power of intention)...?

Watched this and another video or two on SoS because the series lost me around this book and I stopped a quarter through book 7. Finally gonna try to get back into this series and see it through!

Finally a review that summarizes what actually happened in the book along with some commentary. Sure, not much happened in this volume but really appreciate you going through the characters with a high level summary. Are you on goodreads?

Nice review. This is the first time I am reading The Dark Tower and I enjoy it, but Song of Susannah is my least fave and gave it three out of five stars as well. I am not sure why I don't like it that much. I think it was too slow and it wasn't on the same level as the other ones in the series. Still can't wait to read number seven. :)

Roland and Eddie's gun fight in Maine is one of the most exciting fights in the whole series, the only one I like more is Jake and Callahan fight entering the Dixie Pig

There are a few reasons why I like this book less than the other ones: 1) I wanted a fantasy story about faraway places, not one focused on my world. I miss the other books. 2) The addition of Stephen King being added into the story somehow makes the the whole story less real, and more focused on the writer. But I give him a few points for creativity and originality (just don't do it again, lol).

Just subbed , great reviews, I was wondering why'd you skipped book 4 review though

When I read the books myself I didn't think King writing himself as a charactr was at all egotistical. He wrote himself as a real selfish cowardly asshole. And I don't think King is those things. Maybe more when he was addicted and off the wagon ... on some level ... but not what he was in the books. LOL.
