It is a remake so you could watch the original (called "The kingdom") if you want more. They are very different in style to each other though.

Eh, the Danish version was Better. I'm sure someone enjoyed this version, but to me, there will never be a character than can replace the magnificent personality and dialogue of Stig Helmer. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about...

Yes, I'm judging maybe too much by this trailer (& stereotypical voice-over), but the "grace points" of humor seem lacking. I'm an American, but I found Riget also funny, the Scandinavian dynamic of the "haughty stiff Swede" looking down on the "hippie loose Danes." The more "organic" haunting of the souls from the washing grounds is enough, but the American one seems forced, like it has to have some more sinister sensational catastrophe predicating the souls' motivation - all a bit over-the-top & hokey. Von Trier's American parallel was more to David Lynch's Twin Peaks (by his own admission).

I really tried. While i didn't hate it it was hard to watch. And i watch a Lot of foreign stuff. Probably more production stuff, actors not as recognizable, i forget if language was an issue, but he was BRILLIANT for this story. He's a great writer.

I never understood why this only lasted one season back in 2004. This was such a freaky, mysterious, scary, unique supernatural series by Stephen King. I got into it and was so disappointed they didn't renew into a second season.

Steven King made it based off of Lars Von Trier's horror tv series of the same name :) (Riget (means kingdom)) a season 2 of the danish version has just been released, if it holds any interest :) my bet is Steven did not want to go further into the universe and plot when Von Trier hadn't.

To be honest, the trailer already gives away the impression. If I hadn't watched the original, I could pass some time with this version, but, after the original cliffhanger, to think that I'll watch some werewolves, vampires and shit... There are other places, where I can watch it. But the legacy of Lars von Trier deserves better, than to be spoiled by a Scary Movie grade remake.

Heiko Beer I watched it on tv when it came out years ago, but when it ended, I thought they cancelled it. I did not realize it was meant to be a miniseries with an ending. Most series that tell a continuous story will never have an ending. They will just keep putting out morre an more episodes until it is eventually cancelled. like "Nowhere Man" and "Dead Zone"

tomaf I think the idea was to have a main plot for each season, because certain things were left unresolved. Unfortunately, when it originally aired the network it was no pulled a FOX if I remember correctly and changed its time spot to directly compete with CSI and a couple other really popular shows. At least it is more complete than the original series, which ended on a cliff hanger, then some of the stars died before the final episodes were filmed.

Is this really shot by the guy, who made the Shining? King, Ridley Scott, Peter Jackson... How many legendary directors have been affected by the curse of modern cinema? Things were made as an art. An expression of the creator, an idea. They didn't have to be approved or rated by some MAFIAA. Lars has shot a psychological odyssey that does not ask modern viewers with less IQ than the dishwashers - to rate the movie on IMDB. Or submit it for an Oscar. Or get a billion dollar franchise out of it. What has King shot? Jumpscares, werewolves, vampires... Well, on one hand, there was european pre-millenial audience. Now... american thrillseekers with popcorn have the day...
