Do you know what Stephen Lett doesn't like about children? They ask questions, as we know questioning things in the organisation is somewhat discouraged.
@thomash.schwed36624 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, with the exception of your use of the phrase "somewhat discouraged". The Society doesn't 'somewhat discourage' questioning, it flat-out strongly condemns questioning. After all, this is the same organization which once used "Fight Against Independent Thinking" as a subtitle in a "Watchtower" study article; and, in the thirty-eight years since then, that subtitle has become something of a slogan amongst Jehovah's witnesses.
@joanferguson41943 жыл бұрын
Somewhat? You question too many things or question the elders about things they can’t answer you get “ marked”. This is their term for “watch out for this one, he/she may be turning apostate!” Funny thing how the scriptures themselves tell us not to be misled, but examine those who claim to come in Jesus’ name! And how can a person do that without questioning.

Herbs4life said: Do you know what Stephen Lett doesn't like about children? They ask questions, as we know questioning things in the organisation is somewhat discouraged. Ron's response: That is a bold faced lie he loves all people including children. Questioning the organization is not discouraged and is healthy when done in the right way. What is discouraged are those who push ahead after they have been given an answer. If person wants to push their own agenda they need to go somewhere else as it does not promote unity or peace in the congregation. One of the problems with world religions.

@@jadedstar7442 From the reasoning of a non Christian, you would sound correct when you say "something you have no control over" but from a biblical stand point, you would stand clearly wrong for that can never be used as an excuse. Doing good in the bible's context is righteousness by faith, us living right with God by faith and professing our love for Him and his commandments by our act of obedience. God is love but He is also just, for whatsoever a man sows, that he will reap. He hates the sin and not the sinner, for His long suffering with us all as sinners prove that he isn't that any of us should perish but that we should all come to repentance. Here lies the issue, repentance and "something you have no control over" can't coexist in the judgement of God if His justice fulfils righteous judgement. We're all born in sin and shaped in iniquity, so our natural tendency to obey the cravings of the flesh and not God, for the flesh is enmity against God, it's not subject to His law. We have lied, stolen, committed fornication & adultery, murdered, covet, harbored idols and just down right gone each his own way according to the tendency of the flesh. Now, are we going to say that we continue in all these sins because we had no control over it and whatever little "good" that we think we do will make our works righteous?? No, how can we be so gullible to ourselves!! Thus, since we were born with a sinful nature and homosexuality is a result of that corrupted nature, Christ said "Ye must be born again" of the Spirit of life in Him so that we can receive the power to break the tendencies in the flesh and walk after the Spirit of life which empowers us to overcome the temptations of the flesh & the world.

I was disfellowshipped for being gay (bi) 40+ years ago as a teenager. I lost friends and family and was on my own so very young. I was shunned at JW family funerals. One JW family member and one JW friend was always there for me, and they risked everything. I was shunned for who I was, yet abusers in my JW family were protected. I've been suicidal. I've had therapy, support, and made real friends. For years I was resentful about the shunning. Now I'm glad. The Universe kept those toxic people out of my life because I wouldn't have been able to stop contacting them due to my past need to make them love me. To all those suffering alone you are NOT ALONE! PLEASE REACH OUT! ❤️💛💚💙💜 PS: I'm writing a book.

This took a lot of courage on her part. The hesitancy and careful wording makes it quite apparent that she was still closely linked to her family in the org and it must have been scary for her to take this subject on. She's amazing and is moving in the right direction. The mistreatment and shunning of a wonderful young man that I knew growing up (one of the kindest people I have known) while finding that they have been covering CSA cases all along infuriated me and was the final straw. So men can rape babies (male and female) and be excused but a person can't have feelings for consenting adults of the same gender just because they're honest about who they are?!

I concur with many on here that Brandy is extremely brave for being so open and so very articulate in expression her feelings regards the death of her brother.... Her story is very close to my own.... two of my closest in my earlier years of life both extremely zealous in their prospective lives as J.W,s , came out of their closets and announced they were gay..... Incidentally these two people were not aware of each other...They lived in different countries but were known to me... One was my brother and one was my closest friend and pioneer partner... Sadly one of the two who woud be ages with Brandy,s brother ( an only son) took his own life.... Brandy,s story brings all of this back to mind, not that my experience has ever been forgotten... the loss, lives with me every day, as it will with Brandy... Sadly the issue of suicide has been very real for me ,as three people who were extremely close friends have taken their lives... they live in my memory and are never forgotten... Just so very missed... Many thanks to both of you for this video, it will be revisited often....

this is why, the organization creates more division. jws dont like too much communication with other jws because they can create their own communities and i remember preaching, they never wanted more than 5 people together, if the group got too big they will divide them to pairs and at the end everyone would go their own seperate ways, no way to keep going further or become friends. before you preach you shouldnt talk too much, after you preach no talking everyone go home. are parents jelouse or the elders get jelouse? many reasons can become the excuse, but mostly young groups gather together was never tolerated and most of the time you have to show yourself up at some elder home to let them make arrangements for everybody else, and everyone was over 20 yo. even parents would take their parenting skills so seriously like their life depends on it. some did go together alone but they where grown ups and everyone knew each other. what iam trying to say, preaching in groups was not tolerated if it was not arranged by the elder. looks like they dont want strong powerful groups to go too far because then they cant arrannge them their way

A friend of mine in another congregation took his own life, he couldn’t bear the thought of coming out to his parents, particularly because his other brother was gay, so he thought his parents couldn’t cope with both their children being gay. Very, very sad. Felt so sad and angry. Nobody said that was it, but I just knew as soon as I heard. He was so camp, only dated someone briefly once. I was naive and just thought that he was naturally camp, but that didn’t have to mean he was gay. I never really could get my head around gay being wrong, as I grew up I just told myself it was like people who were born in the wrong body (trans) before I knew what that even was. I just thought it was a human ‘imperfection’ and people would have to wait til the new system to be ‘cured’. I was really naive, never believed that 10% of ppl could be gay because there were no gay ppl that I knew at the hall 😳🤣 I look back and cringe at being indoctrinated as a child. Even indoctrination never made me feel being gay made someone a bad person, never understood hate towards LGBTQ community. It’s just so sad that suicide is something that isn’t uncommon. As you talk to people, you hear of others who have died.

I learned in my psychology class in college that homosexuality is inherited to some degree because it is a preference that is engrained in your brain at birth. This is how we know its nature and not nurture that causes this preference/ attraction for the same sex. Researches did twin studies of twins and triplets who were adopted or their parents divorced and split custody of the kids so they were raised in different households, and the results showed that if one of them was homosexual or bi then the other siblings had a huge chance to report the same sexuality. I personally know triplets in real life who after high school all came out as either bi or gay. I myself was attracted to women before even noticing men. I would stare at them and draw their bodies at a young age because women are so attractive to me. This is why I HATE how they call it a "lifestyle" as if they CHOSE to be attracted to the same sex. I used to sit at the kingdom hall meetings and feel so scared inside as they talked on stage about homosexuality because I knew how I felt. (I was a born in JW and stopped attending meetings around 17) I'm very sorry to hear about your friend who took his life.

@Ron c Bisexual, Pansexual, Demisexual, Sapiosexual, Aromantic, Asexual.... all of those can be across the genders. I always thought I was a little different because most people tend to find attraction easy. If you’re gay, bi, straight, you kind of have a type, you feel an attraction. Boom. I realised I wasn’t quite like that, it seems to be something else, usually an emotional connection. That or a strong connection that is inexplicably formed. No idea what that comes under. Pan-Demi? But not quite. Sexuality is a strange thing. It’s also impacted by nurture as well as nature - religious early developmental trauma & doctrine has a major impact too. All that repression ... 😢

I still remember when Brandy and her family moved into the cong when she and her husband started dating and when they married and also their first child. I also remember Stephen when he was young and transitioned into adulthood. He was an extremely, nice, quiet, and well mannered young man. You couldn't help but like him. My family were all shocked when we heard of his death, but ultimately, as Brandy mentioned we knew why. I have never agreed with the shunning practices and actually never practiced it when it came to family and some close friends because I always thought it was wrong and that the org weaponized it to control its members. And I remember how they changed the conditions of it over the years. One significant thing I also noticed was that most elders didnt practice it when it came to their own families but tried to enforce it with everyone else. That appalled me. Brandy is extremely brave for going on record and speaking about this. Our hearts are with her. Please don't feel guilty because as witnesses we all were endoctrinated and thought we were doing the right thing only to find out how misguided we were. It was nice seeing her although it was a KZbin vid. We wondered what happened with her and her family when they moved away. The guilt we feel as a result of the shunning we take part in against df'd family members, friends and people we knew and didn't personally know - it is the insidious weight we carry as long as we tolerate being a part of that nonsense. It tears at the heart and mind. Our being a part of inhumanity to our fellows can give us an excuse "it is alright because every one else whom we think is important is doing the same thing." This has a cascading effect and is one that builds from the group acceptance of inhumane treatment of others. Never a good policy nor practice. Too many examples in history of how not to do it, of how not to show one's lack of approval for another's choices. I'm straight and even i know that is foolish and wrong and backfires in unforseen ways.

(Random throwback): Remember as a kid at school, you were the one who knew the addresses of almost every fellow pupil in your class? If not their exact home address, at least you knew what street or neighborhood they lived? And we all know why you randomly asked them for that information and memorized it. Because even though the organisation constantly tries to make you "boldly take a stand for Jehovah," no JW kid (and I'll repeat, NO JW kid) liked to be seen by their classmates going door to door to knock and preach. Of course when it happened, you quickly found ways to dilute the public embarrassment, and also prepared yourself mentally for the social backlash that was sure to come when school resumed on Monday. But we all know you did NOT like being seen! Not even after you've become an adult, talk less of deliberately putting a child through such awkward situations. And that's why at school you had to find out what neighborhoods each classmate lived in, so if you ever got assigned to work that territory, your eyes were always watching over your shoulder for any surprise from familiar faces. Now this was back in the day, when you had to wait until Monday to find out how much embarrassment you would be dealing with when word goes around the class. These days however, I can't imagine how JW kids have to deal with classmates using social media to already spread the word before Monday. Worse yet, they even got the poor JW kid on video going door to door, and that clip would never be erased from his classmates' Facebook memories. What a way to destroy your child's social esteem early on, that he has to formulate ways to avoid encountering school mates on weekends? This religion literally trained us to be little CIA agents, who had to remember what territories our classmates lived in as a matter of necessity, just in case. 😅

And then was seemingly confused about her threat to call the police.

Alright my son will do the preaching to you." (Thanks to my mom and dad who used to do this too). However, these same parents or the elder has work colleagues whom they do not "courageously preach to at work." And when they run into them in the ministry, they shift the discussion to something about work. The hypocrisy! Im glad my kids will never go through such situations I was put through. Now imagine a child who still doesn't know themselves well nor has developed an own personality, trying to deal with such social situations. All because we "don't want to make Jehovah mad with us." Well, where is the part about "Jehovah understands that we are mere humans?" 🙄

@@takeyouryokeandlearnfromme1771 it's a bit like the government. Change things around to fit the situation. One minute, Jehovah's all loving, all forgiving God, the next, He's offended and pissed off about everything. It just ridiculous. But it definitely leaves it's mark.
