I love the way working musicians play live. The music is immediate. There is no going back and doing it again, like you can in the studio. For a band to play well live everyone is listening. They know what they are playing, words, chords, rhythm patterns etc and at the same time they are responding to one another in the moment. And so there is this wonderful synergy, energy, magic.

Tony, although I did not get to see this show, I did see CSN there around the same time, and they were excellent as well! But the funny thing is that I absolutely have the biggest crush on Stephen now. Never did way back when, but I have so much admiration or his ability to play guitar and write the most profound lyrics!

Skip ahead on this to about the 1 hr. 25 mark where Stills plays a terrific, albeit rushed, acoustic version of Thoroughfare Gap, the title song from his 1979 album which this tour supported. I saw this tour a few weeks earlier than this show, 3/6/79 at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, which coincidentally is where CSNY played their first ever live show in 1969, a few days before Woodstock. I remember the Stills show well as it was my 18th birthday. At the time he was dating actress Susan St. James and played a little acoustic ditty titled "Susie James" which never was recorded.

Wow. I saw this show in Louisville at The Gardens in July of that year, as I recall. It was festival seating, and the girl who sat down next to me had a joint tipped with acid and let me tell you! Was that a great show! We were dead center 5 rows from the front, and I have no clue how I got home. I remember Stills and his carved eagle guitar belting out 20 minutes or so of "Rocky Mountain Way." Tolman had been replaced by Donnie Dacus. There was blues magic in the combination of Stills, Finnegan and Bonnie B. The whole band played their asses off. Show was opened by Eastern Kentucky's own Exile.

I'm looking for that Stephen Stills, that was on a special production, The Blue Jean Network around the same time this concert 79-80. It was like the Midnight Specials that used to run back then. It was only him and his band, about an hour. It was an outside venue, Stills had a beard, wearing a black cowboy hat. I used to have it on vhs tape, but somehow It got erased. I've been searching google and KZbin for years on and on, never have come across again. Anbody remember seeing this?
