One of the things I love most about this channel is Stephen leaving his own errors in. It would be so easy to edit everything to make him look better than he is at this time in his life. But by showing that even arguably the greatest ever player makes mistakes, it keeps it real. It's fascinating watching the breaks where something of his old fluency returns (not being funny, but his play was great against Mark Williams' son) as they seem more special that way. I'm so impressed with his attitude in being honest about himself. Top man.

Stephen is a completely reinvented man. I would never have guessed as a player he would go on to become such a great, natural and down to earth presenter.

He says himself he struggled with practicing as he got older. His commitment as a youngster cannot be questioned though.

@@peterf08 because Stephen hardly plays anymore and when he does he just has a knockabout and doesn't put his heart and sole into it like he did when he was in his pomp. He'd rather enjoy his life now and play golf. He said in his interview with Ronnie that the one thing he'd reconsider if he could have his time again would be to have a life outside of snooker because when he was younger it was 100% snooker and nothing else.

I haven’t played in YEARS (moved the u.s. in 92 and started a laying pool a couple of years ago). Had a recent work trip to Ireland and found a snooker club just around the corner from the office. Watched this practice for a couple of hours over a couple of days and then played with a bloke from work. I had a 38 and a 20 break in the same frame! The 38 should have kept going but played a terrible shot on a red to get out of position. My previous highest break way back when was 32 lol Long story short, probably going to quit my job and turn pro now lol😂😅😊😂 Cheers Mr H!

I managed a 52 break on my lunch break years ago with a colleague; easily my highest ever. I'm currently on step 3 but haven't managed to do it in fifty attempts so far. Annoyed cos want to get to stage 4, which I suspect I'll actually find easier. That 52 seems doable, though my best was done in an actual match (mostly blues and pinks to middle pockets).

This is my favorite video on your channel so far! I love you or other good player talking through routines shot by shot and explaining the thought process. And also the routine with the 4 reds and blacks is pretty important to learn the basic shots around the black spot. The overlay showing where you hit the white is very helpful seeing how the cue ball reacts. Good addition to the cue tips. 👍

The content of all your videos is amazing, but for me the best thing about these videos is the sense of getting to know you. It’s inspiring to have come to learn that as well as being such an amazing player and someone I idolised, you are also such a genuine, friendly, funny guy as well.

That's a great routine. You can use it to steadily track your progression. Go back and forth to mix it up and not get frustrated. Nice job.

Thanks a lot, Stephen. You have no idea what this video meant to me watching it. I had a super old ash cue that was robbed (including the case) a few years ago. Spent the whole of my teenage years playing snooker during school years (lunch time) at a local club and on weekends and sort of fell out of love with playing, but I still always watched it. Out of interest I said I'd check if there was a local club in my area and found a Home Rule club - 5 mins away - and sourced a cue on eBay. Tomorrow I am signing up for membership at the club and will start off with that blue/red break. Pfft... thank you so much!!!

Spent first half of the video wishing we could see where on the cueball Hendry was actually hitting for each shot, only to realise there was a little graphic at the top right showing exactly where! That's the difference, knowing where Hendry is hitting the cue ball, can learn a lot from this.

Love these types of videos, really helps with having something to actually practice. Although, I would also love to hear some thoughts and tips maybe on how cloth affects the cue ball. I never know if I'm playing a shot wrong or if the cloth is just too worn for the type of shot I played. Would be interesting to know!

Finally restored my antique 10' Wenco American snooker table. Finished it in March and so far my high break is 32. This game is such a challenge and worth every bit of sweat I put into it. Can't wait to try these steps.

Agree with the multiple runs. You will reach a limit quickly by progressing 10, 20, 30, etc. Playing each level 3 times provides not only developmental experience but confidence. Another practice method is to 10 runs and establishing an average; with practice you polish your skills (with again...confidence).

That point you mentioned about getting excited when you're nearing a milestone break - so can relate to that! I was on a 68 in a league match, and had a diag blue into green pocket, with nothing to do with the cueball as the red was near. I was in the zone till everyone stopped and my opponent changed his tone in announcing the break. After realising what break i was on, and what i could have ended up with, i (of course) bottled the blue. 68 still remains my highest match break 😔

I’ve noticed over the past year watching this channel Stephen’s cue action is coming back he’s hitting the ball with more confidence than he done 2-3 years ago. The new cue seems to be great for him too, feel like he never found one that he got on with after his was broken

Looking at the cue ball strike marker thing, I was surprised how little he used side, almost not all. Even when he did, it was very slight. It's amazing how much you can do with a cute ball with screw, stun and follow through.

Just go to a club one afternoon, it’ll be quiet, and you just pay per hour and knock the balls around, no one will give a toss, they’ll be doing their own thing 👍🏼
