Longer range ships will become even more important as new systems are added.

Had the DUR since it's release (I feel old). I use the black paint livery and strip it down for a stealthy explorer. Hopefully they actually implement stealth mechanics again soon! I think she's beautiful, just desperately needs the interior reworked! I enjoyed this video, thanks

Little known fact about the DUR - the refinery already works. Park the DUR, and turn the engines off, leaving the ship systems on. It will gradually regenerate hydrogen fuel over time.
@carelesswisper2426 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure a lot of ships have this, and it isn't the refinery, it's the fuel scoops that passively collect hydrogen from the environment. The same can be achieved by decouple cruising in space. The refinery would be more to replenish your quantum, which is not functional yet.

I love how the Freelancers fly, unpopular opinion I know, but they feel like 747's in flight, navigation, and landing. Feels more lifelike with head tracking as well. I love these ships just for the flight experience. Can't wait for the flight model changes later down the road.

I'm certain the flight model changes will breathe much new life into the freelancers. That will be a nice touch along with Gold standard.

If I were tasked to redo the ship for a gold pass I'd make the following changes: 1) Remove panels and seats for passengers 3 and 4 in the cockpit and make the cockpit smaller. Those passengers don't control any turrets and radar duty should fall to the co-pilot. 2) With the smaller cockpit comes more room for the living quarters so I'd remove the engineering panel in the living quarters and the ladder to the outside. That ladder is just a decompression hazard. That's plenty of space to expand the toilet and kitchenette. I'd also add two folding jump seats and two folding trays . 3) I'd remove the cargo grid in the docking area and replace those with suit lockers and an armory. There may be space to add the ladder to this room. 4) The refinery and rear cargo area can stay as they are. With these changes all the passengers have one unique station where they can do their jobs. The pilot and co-pilot have the cockpit. The gunner has his turret in the back. And the engineer has his panel in the refinery. At any given time there is space for two of the crew to have a meal or just take a break.

Had the DUR for a long time in my exploration mega pack, very underrated. Since upgraded to MSR though. I can see the whole freelancer range getting some rework love. Especially so that physical cargo works with the forward storage area on the standard and Max variants (no way it can get through the doors). I would like to see a return of the 400 style central stairs and movable side thrusters again.
@Leptospirosi Жыл бұрын
I like the Freelancer concept, better then the Cutlass, but it really needs a rework. Move the docking collar to the area after the cockpit, possibly on the opposite side to the ladder entrance. One single room exposed to the void and potential decompression. Move most of the components access panel to where the Beds currently are. Move the living quarter behind the sealing door which currently works as small "cargo room": you cannot move SCU containers back there anyway: just enlarge the area by moving the forward bulkhead where the current Kichenette and Shoilets are. Enlarge, slightly, the width so that a ROC sized vehicle can easily fit. Remove the rear turret and change it with a remote one which can be operated by the cockpit seat. Add another turret under the chin of the ship, so that 4 people will have something to do in combat and the belly of the ship is protected. The intermediate space in the cargo bay could be used for missile racks in the MIS, but what's the point of the refinery as it is now? Several ships, like the 100i serie don't need it for Hydrogen processing, unless the DUR is insanely efficient at that (which is currently not). The whole Quantanium process and refining has changed a lot since the introduction of the DUR, which makes the whole "Fuel refinery" useless. The Expanse will be used as a refinery and the Odyssey has both mining and refinery on board so the DUR is jobless. Rather add some scope to the rear of the ship to allow refuelling small vessels to allow the ship to have a role, so that it can complement the Starfarer for small operations. Rework the Cockpit console to look like the Hull A, but better: thin down the console itself and open a window beneath it to give some vision
@timsgta Жыл бұрын
DUR isnt jobless lol, it doesnt refine fuel for others, only itself, which is a good feature on an explorer, its not a fuel supplier to the fleet LOL. Also you can move scu boxes to smaller hold.
@papacoulsy Жыл бұрын
DUR was my daily flyer for a good year or so. Badly needs a reworked interior.
@jimflagg4009 Жыл бұрын
Yes I think it has one bulk head too many. The bulkhead between the cargo and the docking section should be removed. I know it will load cargo in this area but if you do any manual cargo loading it is a pain. Also remove two of the seats in the cockpit.
@Dr4g0n36 Жыл бұрын
central area is designed to serve docking collar (on top). You will be able to interact with that cargo, or do some trading with other people, keeping locked (and pressurized) living area and rear area (cargo/missles/refinery station).

I started with a nomad. Loved it. Upgraded to freelancer and the nomad quickly fell off my radar. I upgraded to each one, Regular to, dur, to max, to MIS. I absolutely love the freelancer brand. Ok like many I started with a Aurora way back when and Upgraded to the Dur. Thinking exploration is coming, 5 years later lol. I upgraded to a Prospector with this guy a long while back . This ship as it is has a endless supply of fuel, But that's it till exploration comes out. If I was looking at this ship I would get the Base Freelancer then upgrade to it when Pyro come out. You can get a lot of nice game packs when they are on sale with the base Freelancer and take advantage of the extra cargo and such till the time comes. This ship will shine in Pyro!!

They are both fuel tanks. Most ships should be able to scoop regular fuel. It was supposed to scoop quantum prior to the quantum change. It was also noted as the biggest ship that could go through the smallest worm hole. Now that the Corsair ship is available it may be in that category of ships that can go into the small worm holes. CIG mentioned that they have to make room for the components in the ship, so hopefully the rear gets bigger.

315p/DUR was my pledge combo in 2013; always been looking for exploration gameplay. i won an 890 so i melted it and my DUR for the exploration pack. i ROC mine with my DUR but it's not convenient to load and unload that thing. 100% will remove the turret for solo play if they give us the chance to. i could not shove a cyclone in, but the STV actually fits quite well. i really hope they ditch the second cargo room. if they're gonna sacrifice cargo for exploration, then they really should utilize that mid-ship space; the cargo area in the back is enough for an explorer. imagine how much more fitting of a variant it would be with an expanded living/working area.

I never liked MISC. I do like the 4 chairs in the cockpit. I would like to see the turret changed to a remote station in cockpit and the cargo areas need to be combined. It hard getting boxes through the door. I would make the ship just a little bit wider for the cyclone. It does have an all black ship skin and that's awesome.
@RoballTV Жыл бұрын
Fuel refinery will be for the thrusters, but it'll have the option to swap for available gases prevalent in the region you are exploring. Most other ships that can't rely on Hydrogen in a region will need help pumping out the hydrogen, and swapping to the local gases, the DUR (and 100 series) can do it automatically. Different gases will have different performances in the thrusters apparently.

I think it's really cool how every manufacturer use a ship that's typical for the field they operate in to turn them into exploration ships. Luxury for Origin, military for Anvil, cargo for MISC... But at the same time it bothers me too. It's as if nobody has a clue what a true exploration ship is or how to build one so they just slightly modify a ship they already have. 😐
@ElfInflicted Жыл бұрын
Great review, showed everything I wanted to see. These need their gold pass badly but I think they'll shine once they get it. Really like the DUR's external design, it's got a lot going on and executes it well, IMO. Also, it doesn't look like it's available for rent, at least not at Lorville.

I just got into this game during the last sale, and I immediately gravitated toward the Freelancers. The main downside to me is the crew. Four is too many for all variants. In regards to the Dur the cockpit, and living quarters are too cramped for a long distance exploration vessel. If the Dur is meant to spend longer amounts of time away from ports exploring then that extra space would go a very long way even if to just stand or walk more comfortably. Like I said it goes for all variants. That space could be better utilized for specific roles. I still love it though.
@timsgta Жыл бұрын
what are you smoking lol the freelancers DO NOT require a crew of 4
@YourNeighborNat Жыл бұрын
@@timsgta I could be wrong, but I don't think they were saying it did require a crew of four. I think they were saying four is too many and the space for those additional crewmates could be better utilized elsewhere.

When exploration really becomes a thing it will be a good ship to buy with ingame money(assuming it's current price ingame), not much excited to it, if it comes in warbond CCu it will be a must have to make CCu paths linked with stably avaiable ships to further upgrades in the future. All the things it offers do not compensate for real money spent as it cannot shine with the gameplay we currently have.

Star citizen seems to have no idea how to design an exploration ship. There should be a small four person flight vehicle on the exterior hull (top) for minor expeditions and to relocate the crew in the event of the ship becoming immobilized or to collect sample return missions. A long range communication dish mounted outside to the rear of the cockpit is going to be a necessity and the small cargo area should double as a radiation shelter. Much more locker space for the foodstuffs and tools should be available and a medical unit must be made room for. All this would have to be remedied if they expect people to live and work for long duration flights. Your thoughts?
@PIN-o7 Жыл бұрын
Valid points, but don't forget this is a variant of ship which was not designed from the ground up to be a explorer. Ships such as carrack, 600i , etc. Do have some of those features, however it will be interesting to see how the odyssey from misc is delivered.
@citizencasne9270 Жыл бұрын
imo it needs to lose two of the seats in the cockpit and the mini cargo area, and use the extra space for a proper crew/rest area. If it's a long range exploration ship then I think it really needs to be more livable. At least on par with the Hull A. Just my two cents

@schlagzahne6741 Жыл бұрын
Interesting comment in the dur video but here goes- if you have something you want to defend or need to disable minefields, the nautilus might be ok. If you want to throw size 10 torpedoes at things and fly away, Polaris is it. Also polaris has a brig, armory, hangar, medway and big guns

It's a long range ship with 4 bunks, and 4 captains chairs... and no place to hang out, eat, relax, socialize etc. You either lie in bunk or sit at a set of controls. The interior DEFINITELY needs a rework.
