Reaper takes forever and a day to even appear in the first place, though. Heck, the only floors where it's even a reasonable threat is on the floors with no enemies. This gets across the urgency a lot more because there's so much to do with so little time.

Well in ff4 (ff2 in America) in the game version of the EX final dungeon there is a room that has an enemy that has maxed magic and globe 99 (globe 99 one shots and he uses it all the time) he uses a basic maxed magic and reflect combo that increases the magic damage by 1.5 times its normal damage so basically its: extremely high magic attack that will almost kill your party members but he buffs it by casting it on himself while he has reflect meaning its definitely a 1 shot and he does it 3 at a time so its a basically 3 dead party members out of 5 followed up with globe 99 so 4 out 5 dead unless Edward uses hide, kain jumps off screen while its happening, or a character has reflect. And a npc even tells you that many brave and strong warriors died to this dragon like thing and that gods fear of its existence. It's a good thing you can run from the battle tho or else it would truly be a horrible boss to beat.

I really adore the Water Wraith conceptually on so many levels. Gameplay wise, it's the obvious "Take Too Much Time And Die" design approach, akin to the ghost from Spelunky. But it's executed so well. It also is insta-kill and invincible, of course, again akin to the ghost from Spelunky. "Character" (if you will) design wise, it scratches the itch I have for odd creatures/beings. (Cryptids, Eldritch beings, SCPs, etc.) I mean, it originates from another dimension! Overall, it's just... so cool. Hard to describe.

Resetting is for cowards. It destroys the tension and atmosphere of the caves by knowing I could negate any mistake I make by re doing a floor. One of my favorite things about pikmin 2, is that I have to deal with the mistakes that I make.

Honestly, they have so many blue pikmin, even if they lost all their guys in the Submerged Castle, they'd still be fine. I'm glad they haven't considered resetting because it would destroy the tension. It might be good for a casual playthrough, but since it's an LP, it's more entertaining if mistakes made had actual consequences.

You could tell how terrified Mal was. I don't blame her, but she normally doesn't do stuff like that (namely how the Waterwraith killed blues as Mal just stood there, frozen)...and it's probably going to bite Stephen in the ass when he has to take over. I feel like in this cave, with the knowledge that like Stephen said that the Waterwraith only focuses on the captain, that's the key....but again, Mal was so terrified. Stephen (because he wasn't playing, lol) came up with ideas and I gotta commend him, smart ideas too. I noticed Mal did some impulsive things like switching back and forth with captains, again cause she was afraid. I'm not shaming her (Because the wraith is a hell spawn from the depths of Umbrella, I'm convinced) nor do I blame her! Also the Pikmin AI of automatically doing stuff is annoying in this part, I don't get why they do that or who programmed that. Stephen was also right about throwing the Pikmin onto a ledge to have them safe, but I don't know why you guys never did that here. Nothing against you guys, I just know he mentioned it a few times and it was never done. Overall good episode and quite entertaining. I wish we had face cam for this though lmao

I noticed that neither of them are good at thinking whenever they're in a stressful situation. When they're not playing, they are able to form a plan, but when they're playing, all logic goes out the window. I guess it takes a certain mindset to remain calm and collected in these types of situations.

They should have just paused the game, it wouldn't hurt. But you're right. This was probably the biggest issue during the Ocarina of Time LP. I do find it odd that despite Stephen's very good suggestions, it took Mal rather long to actually act on them. Though I think they get stressed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easily in games at this point, like when the Fiery Bulbax was there, Stephen basically killed off Pikmin for no reason.

I mean, Stephen and Mal were usually good about killing bulborbs. Then a fiery one came up and Stephen literally just threw them toward it while screaming. It was funny, but I was like 'why is he doing that'. I worry about how they'll deal with some particular ones, but that's only cause a specific few I despise. Oh me? I would have used the purple spray after getting it into water lol. I don't really trust using the Waterwraith to kill things for me. Unless it's those fucking spiders. God damn spiders man. But boy am I glad he didn't know the Waterwraith existed. That would have turned this into a COMPLETELY different episode and it's worth it.

I'm surprised that they kept ignoring the tall platforms in the third floor. Even Stephen mentioned it for a second and afterwards forgot about it. Those are there so you can keep your Pikmin safe from the Waterwraith. Luckily in later floors, you can hide in pipes because that's too hard to miss.

Happy 4th of July, you two! Mal, you did really well there! You had some casualties, but that's to be expected on basically any run of this cave, especially when the Waterwraith makes even experienced players panic. You figured out that the Waterwraith can't go in corners, you discovered the beautiful Bulbmin (who have the lowest attack power of any Pikmin), and you're powering through the Submerged Castle, which is easily one of my favorite, yet most dreaded, dungeons in the game. I don't really know what you're up to next after the castle or what advice you might need, so I'll leave you with general things besides aiming. 1) Use your Bitter Sprays! They aren't great for bosses, as they cause the boss's defense to go up while frozen, but they lower the defense of normal enemies! It would've really helped when you fought that Fiery Bulblax in the water last episode, for example. 2) Keep a level head going into the next areas of the game. The rest of the dungeons should not throw any curveballs like this one at you, so you will have the leisure of taking your time and all that. Pikmin is an RTS first and foremost, and Pikmin 2 absolutely requires multitasking, above ground especially, but underground as well. I'll keep commenting if I think of other things as the series go on. Good luck, you two! You're doing great.

TwilightKing432 when a bitter spray is used on a Fiery Bulbax that is still on fire, it will be on fire when it is turned to stone. So either use reds or put the fire out, and then use the spray

You only have a few more floors but they are hard, with many traps getting in the way along with obviously the boss so don't feel bad restarting if you lose all your Pikmin, especially when you have only a little to go.

For anyone watching this who has not played, turning your pikmin white in this dungeon is a terrible idea. A. You have bulbmin for poison and there are no completely buried treasures, and B. This dungeon is filled with water and you are unlikely to be able to save those pikmin from death.

You know, for a blind run of this cave, you guys are doing pretty decently. Good job, guys! Even though I know it's too late now, I have to say that the White Pikmin are of no use to you in this cave, actually. There's no buried treasure, and Bulbmin are already immune to poison, so Whites actually are just hindrances because of water hazards. They're probably there to help speed up treasure collecting, but the water ruins that. Good use of the Red Potions. You probably won't need it for enemies in this dungeon anyway, so using it for speed was clever. Even though I also struggled immensely with the Submerged Castle (I recently beat Pikmin 2 for the first time a few months ago), I came to the realization that I kind of _love_ this cave. It was an absolute nightmare, but the idea of having to think on the go rather than being able to relax made it fun to look back on.

I'm impressed, Mal. I thought you would just make one dumb, frantic mistake and get all of the Pikmin killed, but you held strong and got all the treasures. I left this comment on a previous episode and I'll leave it again because it's such a helpful tip. When attacking those green or grey frogs, the best strategy is to throw on as many pikmin as you can before it jumps, after that, leave it alone and let the pikmin run back after it after they are knocked off until it's dead. This keeps fatalities to a very low minimum for me and I hope it will help you too. Keep up the good work guys! You're doing wonderful for a first run!

Every single corner in the cave is safe. So if you're carrying something towards the waterwraith, you can grab your dudes, squash them in the nearest corner, and the waterwraith will go right past you.

Holy crap this episode had me at the edge of my seat! Amazing job, Mal, I can't believe it but you did it! Now we'll have to see how Stephen handles the hardest floor of the entire cave and then meets with the Waterwraith face to face one last time. You certainly lost quite a few pikmin, but not nearly as many as you could have. You still have well over half of your squad so you're fine! In a way, I hate this cave for the horror that it is, but it's also one of my favorites because of the challenge that it gives you.

Stephen and Mal, I want to give you guys a really helpful tip for a upcoming dungeon. This tip will save a lot of Pikmin. In the Frontier Cavern, which is located at the Valley of Repose, when you get to the boss floor, there is a high ledge right where you land. Throw all of your Pikmin up there immediately!

Around 9: 18, you say that Bulbmin are slow attackers, but all Pikmin attack at the same rate as other Pikmin (it's the damage output that you notice between types of Pikmin). The reason they seem slower is because you only had 10 of them with you at the time. At 16: 58, it is possible for the Water Wraith to run over the spiders, but if the spiders are carrying something, all that happens is that the treasure/corpse is knocked off the spider and the spider remains alive with full health, leaving it open to pick it right back up after a small hiatus. The only way for them to die to the Wraith is when they aren't carrying anything. 20: 44, Water Wraith does not follow captains. Water Wraith just sees anything that looks small and adorable and runs it over. Zero f***s given. If it sees prey, it will give chase. 23: 20, disbanding Pikmin means that Pikmin will form groups *behind the captain*. So if you want to have Pikmin idle against a wall, face opposite of it and then disband them. They will naturally just hug against the wall and you can select your Pikmin then. Fun fact about these harder caves: You may notice that treasures here have very low values overall and I assume that it's because the developers didn't expect you to run into these caves until new game + kicks in and wanted you to go to earlier caves that have treasure with greater values. You can tell that these caves tend to be more technical and difficult because they are usually situated very far from the starting point and require a lot of effort to get to above ground (i.e. Snagret Hole and this cave). That's not to say that you won't find valuable treasure in later caves, but this seems to be a general trend from what I have noticed both in my playthrough and yours. Keep in mind that this is really only a theory.

So, you've might've noticed how dark the caves can get, right? There's a solution to that. Head into the Valley of Repose and find the Subterranean Complex: a hole behind a poisonous gate. The dungeon really screws with you, but I'd say it's easier than the time the Waterwraith gave you.

After watching Chugga's experience with this guy then you guys, I finally mustered enough courage to face him, and I sped through this like a madman. I didn't encounter him for the first time until right when I was about to exit floor 4... I'm speechless, I really don't know how I managed to do something like that... (edit: this is the first time I've ever done this and I was considering recording it, very sad I didn't, but I shouldn't be complaining)

I wasn't sure whether to be excited or apprehensive about this episode, but I needn't have worried as Mal did an excellent job. It looks like they may be getting out with all the treasures and no mass genocide after all.

You guys handled this pretty well, even if your strategy was a bit tedious lasting the whole episode (1.6 speed club!). Don't be afraid to try the things you think of, as they are very correct. The Waterwraith does indeed follow the active captain, and you could toss Pikmin up on that high ledge for safety. I hope that Stephen did well to finish the Submerged Castle in episode 21, and no major losses were incurred!

sublevel 3 was actually made a good chunk harder because stephen told mal to *leave the gates which had a treasure behind it alone* because he was worried about the electric enemies that were *far away from the gate* and had he *not* said that mal would have used her resources to get the gate down much sooner which she tried to do and got the treasure BACK to the ship *before* the water wraith spawned

Most of the Submerged castle only has one layout. I believe floors 1, 3, and 4 can be randomly generated, but there are a lot of things that are constant in each floor on each visit.

Protip: Use the PURPLE SPRAY to freeze Firey Bulborbs, Second Protip: Take out one lightning beetle if there are no other around, it needs two to make a ray of lightning
