This is why I gravitated towards your channel. Not only are you knowledgeable about all this running stuff but you have the capacity to be honest and vulnerable. Thanks for all you do. Hang in there with the break up. And the fact that 14:30 is a slower 5k time for you is fucking bonkers.

I lost my wife of 26 years almost 2 years ago. I’m still trying to recover from depression, anxieties, and panic attacks at 52 years old. My wife was my soulmate and my everything in life and running has helped me with my daily heartaches. I totally understand your situation as my hard journey in life of losing my best friend was a total devastation.

No-one is perfect, Stephen. Not me, not you. Not your partner. We are all human. We make mistakes. But the best of us learn from them & move forward. Know that you are a real inspiration to me & your sage advice has not only taken my running to the next level, but has shown me what it takes to succeed & become really good at something. I look at you & see a super intelligent & successful runner. I also see a kind, down to earth, man, trying to be the best he can be. Keep doing what you've been doing, mate. You will get through this.

Applaud you for opening up. Sometimes just opening up helps. Broke my heart to see you getting emotional. My son recently broke up with his girlfriend and I thought after a month he should be ok. I now know that it’s not that easy. You will exceed your goal at Berlin. I can’t even run your marathon time for a half. See you at Berlin. Thought you are training hard that’s why you are MIA. Life is hard but everything happens for good.

So many men will appreciate the honesty and vulnerability here, Mr Scullion. I found a relationship through running and it felt perfect - like I’d finally met the person I was always meant to meet. Unfortunately things got complicated and we split. I was pretty devastated and really blamed myself for a lot. There’s no easy way through these things but focussing on my hobby and the happiness of myself and the people still in my life did eventually pull me through. I hope it does the same for you. Best wishes!

I can't stress enough how incredibly strong it is to put yourself and your emotions out here, show you crying and talking through what's going on in your life and how it's impacting your athletic journey. Often times professional athletes seem untouchable to humans everyday problems but this video is pure gold to my relationship to sports. Sometime's life is shit, sometimes life is awesome. I'm not here to tell you "you'll get through this" because obviously you will, i'm just writing this to say thank you for your honesty!

Dude. I’ve been running for a about 2 years and I have about as much in common with your level of running as I do with Usian Bolt. But I watch all your videos and I get something out of every single one of them that I can use to make me a better runner. What I’m trying to say is that I watch them because you’re the reason I watch them. You’re the inspiration. You work to get better every day whether you succeed or not. And that’s enough. Shit, that’s more than enough. You’re doing enough. You are enough mate.

Big of you to air out your emotions for the world to see. This is a good time to put your own advice to practice! Coach yourself, don't berate yourself. Whenever I am extra hard on myself or disappointed in myself, I try to speak to myself as if I am almost another person and not me. Coach yourself as if you were a friend or relative. Talk the same to yourself as you would with people close to you or even a stranger. It works for me and hopefully it works for you. If you cannot process your thoughts, think externally. Change it from "why did OUR relationship not work out" and look at it more as "why did THAT relationship end" or "Why am I failing" to "why is this person failing?" Sometimes you just have to treat yourself as just another person. Helps ground myself and be more realistic through ups and downs. Hang in there brother, you have an audience for a reason. You are good people.

I've been beefing up my mantra card for my half on 10/1. My fave one so far is "drop your shoulders, drop your jaw, and shake out your hands. YOU GOT THIS!" , also, in close 2nd place is "Smile, this is FUN!". Try to remember that running is your happy place. Breakups suck, but they get easier.

It's fantastic that you opened up! The break up I'm sure is hard but time heals. More men in general need to be like this. I never open up about anything and I wish I did. This video is an inspiration. Thank you.

Good vid bruh. You are very honest and open, I think seeing that from a top athlete like you is very helpful for runners like me who suck but are always trying to improve.

So much of this amazing video (relationships) I could relate to. I’ve been there. Endless heartbreak and the shit feelings that seemed to last forever. You’re a great bloke for sharing this and you’re in no way alone in these feelings. Great things are just around the corner.

We love you brother, you’ll get back to it in no time, and even if know it doesn’t seem possible, everything happens for a reason, do what you can, don’t focus on what you were doing 4 weeks ago, focus on today. Sending much love your way❤
