This is the final speech I had to do to achieve my second Competent Communicator Award in Toastmasters International. It’s the 10th speech in that series and it’s an inspirational one. It is also the first award that I completed in its entirety in New Zealand after moving here two years ago.
I have seen people do this project with all types of inspirational topics including how much being a member of Toastmasters International has helped them to be a confident public speaker and a better communicator. In my case, I found over the years how much being a member of Toastmasters has also helped me in my Business, Work and Teaching lives.
The reason why I enjoy my current job is because every day while teaching and giving presentations on behalf of my employer and working with my clients, I draw heavily on the skills I’ve acquired in Toastmasters, what I’ve learned from the evaluators and the benefits of being able to frame my thoughts well.
Unlike other speeches I’ll upload to KZbin, I have put in the evaluation of this one as it’s a prime example of how to use the “Commend, Recommend & Commend”, CRC methodology. Also, the evaluator says why his recommendations may have helped to improve my speech and therefore help to enhance future presentations.
Here in New Zealand, the evaluators tend to get the job of introducing the speakers, not the Toastmaster or Chairman of the evening. I chose the name “Stepping Out”, because that’s exactly what I have done. I thank Toastmasters not for just what I can do in the club but for what I can do outside of it.
