Thinking about getting an sti. If I buy a performance cat back system does that void warranty even if I convince the dealership to?
@coreyscarrepairs

I hope you guys are aware that brake fluid can't be "low" unless its leaking or somebody bled the brakes and didn't fill it back up. Under normal conditions, the brake fluid level drops as the pads wear and shouldn't be topped off. If its low that means check the brake pads, if they have plenty of material remaining, check for leaks.
@aomaggots-
@aomaggots- 2 жыл бұрын
Can't some of it be burned away? Serious question.
@coreyscarrepairs
@coreyscarrepairs 2 жыл бұрын
@@aomaggots- No. Hydraulics rely on the system being sealed. I'll give you a quick run down on the system. The master cylinder uses seals to push fluid when you push your brake pedal. The fluid pushes through your brake lines to the pistons in your calipers to clamp the brake pads down on the rotor. If the system wasn't sealed, the pressure from the master cylinder would never make it to the piston in the caliper. So moral of the story is, no fluid is ever lost or gained, just moved. And that was my point in saying if the level is low, either the brake pads are low (the pistons in the calipers are pushed out farther, thereby the fluid in the reservoir is lower), or there is a leak in the system (IE: rotted brake line, cut hose, leaking caliper piston seal)... Now this all being said, you should REPLACE your brake fluid every once in a while, as it is prone to absorbing water which makes it less efficient (lowers boiling point, can cause brake lines to rust, etc). But there should never be a need to just top it off unless there is an issue. Hope that clears some things up for you.

Just an fyi, as the brake pads wear, fluid displaces the space in the caliper/pistons which will cause “low” brake fluid. That’s why when you replace pads, you remove some of the fluid in the reservoir, compress the pistons in the caliper then add fluid as needed.

Changing the size of the oil filter can affect the oil pressure. You should keep stock filter from the factory. That's what I've learned when I went to subaru school in FL. Topping of the brake fluid is not recommended due to mix fluid if your brake fluid is low usually either low pads or leaks. You should bleed the brake fluid for a fresh fluid instead of mixing it.
@evanchi9460
@evanchi9460 2 жыл бұрын
Uhhh yeah, it can affect it on a positive way... By lowering pressure drop through the filter element... How did that make sense to you as you typed that out?
@ararson4710
@ararson4710 2 жыл бұрын
@@evanchi9460 not positive way wrong size or bigger can change the oil pressure with subaru has to remain same pressure. Even you have after market oil pump you still have to keep the oil filter the same size.
@evanchi9460
@evanchi9460 2 жыл бұрын
@@ararson4710 A larger filter, except if terribly designed, will generally lower pressure drop, and increase the flow and performance of any oiling system, Subaru isn't special. It's extremely common for a lot of us, particularly highly built Subarus to use the Mazda oil filter (N3R1-14-302) because it's literally just a larger taller version of the OEM filter, better in every way. As I said, it will change oil pressure, absolutely, but only for the better in practically every case, unless of course you're using a smaller filter. Also using a 12mm pump on my 255, it's terrifically healthy setup this way.

cylinder 4 cooling mod is such a hoax, if you know how the Subaru cooling works, then you would know, that the cylinder cooling mod, all that is doing is taking hot water and pumping it back to the engine, without going through the radiator, that's why you see temps go up on all 4 cylinders. If you have problems with the water and cooling, then most probably you have a bad tune! If you want to know, how I know this, I have an 06 STI bumping 400 bhp, no issues with the cooling! Why? I own a 2006 WRX STI because things ive been on with keeping my car healthy and reliable as i drive mine as a daily is have a routine every week. checking oil and coolant. having a base view of the car and write down anythings you change within the time of your next service you do. For example might have gotten a pod filter and took out the stock intake little parts like that help me keep a record of whats going in the car at what time. Here in Australia I service my car every 5,000km check my phone notes of whats gone in between the last service and now. Better time frames help me. Always be on time with services this has helped me keep my car reliable and healthy

Change the pcv valve, it comes with new hose and clamps, a worn valve will cause oil consumption. Evap solenoid and switch should be replaced as well all the plastic hose nipples break from heat over time, resulting in a small vacuum leak and check engine light. Make sure the fuel pulse dampers arent seeping fuel on the supply line and return line, they prevent low pressure events from occuring at the fuel injectors which if it occurs will cause hesitations abve 3000 rpm and lean events

@@general3883 Not really. It certainly not optimal for 500.000km reliability, but not that terrible either, their pistons are designed for horizontal use. One side of the piston has more weight than the other to counter the effect of gravity. Tuning them on the other hand has to be precise. you cant just do semi sloppy job on a boxer engine. I ve seen guys getting 700-800 horses from 2.2 or 2.5 ej's and they are reliable for 50.000+km and 2bar boost everyday abuse. Naturally aspirated on the other hand are extremely reliable. One day i was at my mechanic and he was rebuilding a 2r 2006 ej20, and after i asked him what happened because my car has the same engine, he told me nothing, just maintenance because it has 450.000 km.

Reliability on STIs is like really down to the driver understanding the car and things like heat soak, a proper tune, and ensuring issues are caught early. People often get a wrx and slap a OTS map and it runs richs, knocks a lot with DAM dropping, and they complain they're unreliable. also comes down to adjusting tune when it starts to have issues, like from colder weather.

IDK, Subaru's are a pretty reliable car to begin, main thing and it's the same w any new/newer car is stay on top of maintenance. My family has had 3 different Subarus, older 88 Subie had just under 300k with no major drivetrain repairs (engine/tranny rebuilds etc). Sister has since new the Tribeca SUV(I believe that's the name)with 170+k mainly highway miles that runs like new. I talked my mother into buying '07 Impreza (124k miles currently)which has had some serious issues but, issues that don't have anything to do with Subaru quality this is why I said maintenance is key. Myself personally, I've been a GM guy my whole life but, even I know if ur looking for a car to last forever and get good mileage u buy a Subaru or Honda. So I pointed her towards a Impreza, plus here in CT the AWD comes in handy during winter snow season. Unfortunately, and this is the same with a Chevy/Ford/Honda or Subaru or any new car, if you don't stay on top or/ or outright neglect regular maintenance that car isn't gonna last very long. With the 07 Impreza she let the old man drive it as long as he took care of maintenance on it, which he claimed he'd been doing but finally got caught cuz he'd barely done any of it. Out of the 124k miles he put 70%(est 92-95k) of the miles on it, doing oil changes every 20-25k miles, replacing 1 broken belt but left the others etc etc. His idea of a full tune up was, tell the garage to put new plugs and change the air filter. Even worse is I'd been offering to do all the maintenance, he just had to get the parts n id take care of it. Instead he would lie and claim he did it, and would get pissed if I attempted to even lift the hood. As you can probably imagine, it blew up in his face spectacularly starting right around 110k miles. We had the front brake pad actually fall out right as she started pulling out the driveway, this is after he claimed to of done a $2000 brake job on it. Since this we've replaced: Water pump/coolant crossover tube/catalytic converter and pipe/resonator and pipe/resurfaced/rebuilt the cylinder Heads/Head Gaskets/timing chains/brake lines/battery 2x/all brakes rebuilt/replaced trans pan/and now replacing muffler/pipe and CV joints. Granted some of this stuff is typical repairs w this mileage but, having to have the heads resurfaced cuz they warped when he overheated it and said nothing to anybody about it isn't normal. If he'd just done the little maintenance crap, oil changes/filters/tune ups etc, probably wouldn't of had to do a lot of this. Anyway, sorry for getting off track just still pissed about it. I know the STI/WRX 2.0/2.5T Engines have a lot of differences from the NA2.5 in the Impreza but, their still pretty damn reliable engines as long as their taken care of. They'll most likely need refreshing sooner than the NA 2.5 will but, that's true with any turbocharged performance engine. Also depends on how badly it's been beaten on while driving it(racing etc), that's the nature of the beast though. Start throwing things like Bigger turbo/came/upping boost etc, and the reliability will decrease a little w each part. Even then it'll still be a reliable enough engine as long as I stay on top of 2 crucial things, biggest is the tune followed by fuel.

Lower fuel quality in Texas? We're one of the few states that get 93 octane instead of 91 at the pump. I actually can't remember the last time I saw 93 octane in another state...

best reliability, get the new 2021 engine, 4th cylinder mod, fluidampr, high grip tensioner, ej207 heads or built, tube and fin intercooler over bar and fin like ETS due to repeatability of cooling. the bigger sti oil filter does not work with most aftermarket headers, no one really uses it unless stock(ish), the black and pink ones were made better and are jdm only but available on ebay in lots not exactly why you would run a NEW coilpack for reliability? OEM coilpacks have been used on allll kinds of track & drag builds from stock to over 1000whp. OTP has a v2, so cool theres more options now and youre testing it, but don't know if this is the car for that, i guess it eliminates variables though..

I thought the Coil Pack thing was funny too. Aftermarket ones for my ST are $300 n people talk shit on them all the time for realistically doing nothing. He had an ST i;m sure he knows this Lol oh well

Killer B oil pickup tube. A quality clutch and flywheel if you need it. I wouldn't get a lightweight flywheel because they are loud

I also second the advice of getting a new oil pick up tube. Killerbee is the original but IAG makes a good one as well. Oil pan optional but the added oil capacity is nice. You should also look into a getadomtune cylinder 4 cooling mod, and a oil cooler. Oil temps tend to creep up with the stock solution in hot climates like AZ. Next you should look into suspension improvements, replacing all the bushes and such, would be a cool series.

Unpopular opinion: Subaru's are very reliable, crappy mods and lack of proper tuning and maintenance causes Subies to get the notion that they're "unreliable". Putting a COBB on it isn't tuning.

Cylinder 4 cooling mod. Will help keep the temps low for cylinder 4 and doing so will help avoid detonation or knock

Waste of time if the tuner says that the logs look good. Cylinder 4 cooling is only worth it if you are tracking the car or are pushing super high horsepower and racing the car a lot.
