wow SOO well explained. I`ve been doing this for many years, but havent understood exactly HOW it works, just that it WORKS you know. Haven`t thought much of it until recently. This video helped me imidietly understand :)

I work in the space industry. We use the same physics to control the satellite. A handful of gyroscopes mounted on various axis’s keeps the satellite stable or can assist in different movements.

Very clear. Thanks for the physics free-body diagram so I can verify your work from first principles (not just dirt-bike-bro talk).

I'm a super mini dirt bike racer but it's more of an Enduro style and the last race has jumps so I'm glad I'm watching this

@@StepstoPodium Okay, thanks for the reply! Because I would approach this problem in a different way. I would use the conservation of angular momentum and the inertia of the vehicle and the rear wheel. Anyway, it is nice to see that you decided to show a different calculation!

How do you measure fork preload once the forks are mounted? Shock sag is pretty straight forward to measure, but I don't see anything for forks.

Funny thing is for beginner, you can tap the front brake in panic if you feel too far back.

So if I’m accelerating before a jump for speed, I can’t readjust mid air when my front end is going to low?

Sorry, but the explanation of the physics is incorrect. Brake tapping is a result of the kinetic energy of the rear wheel being transferred in to a force couple acting at the brake caliper mount and rear axle. Given the bike is in the air this force couple is not transferred through to the ground and hence gives an angular momentum to the bike which causes the bike to rotate. The length of the swing arm has no influence and there is no cancelling of forces.
@DirtyTaxman3 ай бұрын
Totally agreed
@solarshooter3 жыл бұрын
So does the same thing not happen if you brake tap the front wheel?
@StepstoPodium3 жыл бұрын
Yes it does! But the front wheel is usually less heavy than the rear so you don't feel it as much
