@@KillNeckRiff I haven't had that message before. I'd make sure that your EZdrummer 2 is completely up to date. They released EZdrummer 3 not too long ago and the sound packs got updates to work with it. You are very good at explaining things , my question is : I am trying to record music and be able to play along with it and be able to hear both when I play them back. I have a Roland VAD103 TD-07 module. I have a Chromebook which I found out after buying the drums that it will not work with a Chromebook so I bought a HP laptop ( refurbished ) so I do not have the product key so I cannot get out of S- mode to run any kind of programs . I have contacted Amazon about this so we will see. I am 63 years old and am not tech savvy so this is frustrating to me but you have cleared up some of my questions already but after I get my computer squared away I would like to know about my first question. I also have a Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen audio interface and a Dore USB midi host. Thanks and sorry for the long chat.

Hello Barry! Sorry to hear about your HP laptop issue. Hope they were able to help you out. In order to record your music and hear it back, you will need recording software (also known as a DAW). Since you are on Windows, then Pro Tools and Studio One (my personal favorite) are definitely options as I show in the video. With the Scarlett 2i2, you can also download Ableton Live for free from the Focusrite website and use that as your recording software. support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206849359-How-to-install-and-activate-Ableton-Live-Lite Are you wanting to record your own music to play along with? After the triggered midi is recorded from the edrum performance, do you edit the timing/velocity/etc of midi notes in the daw or directly through ezdrummer? Im running ezdrummer 3 as a plugin on a track in reaper, and i want to do as you described where i play edrums as a faster way of programming most of an idea, then adjusting timing and adding or subtracting hits. But its recording like a live drum performance and doesnt give me access to the midi notes for quantizing and other editing. Anyone else experiencing this?

I’m trying to use my efnote3 edrums to connect to ez3/sd3 but the cymbal choke seems not working properly. I can see through there’s an AT triggering but the cymbal just won’t choke and I can’t use midi mapping to fix that. Do u have any suggestions? Thx
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 6 ай бұрын
Hey Richard! I'm not 100% sure why the cymbal choke isn't working for you. I did a quick search in the efnote 3 user manual and on page 12 it says "The cymbal choke technique sends the polyphonic after touch (key after touch) message". So I'm guessing that's what isn't working between your drum module and EZ3/SD3. A couple of questions to hopefully diagnose the issue: 1) Are you using EZ3 and SD3 in a DAW? If so, which one? I've seen posts where people are having issues with their DAW not being able to handle polyphonic aftertouch (only monophonic aftertouch). Or aftertouch is turned off in the DAW by default. 2) Does the cymbal choke work if you open EZ3 or SD3 in the standalone application? It might also be worth looking through the Toontrack Support Forum. I found a question regarding the efnote 7x and chokes in SD3: www.toontrack.com/forums/topic/efnote-7x-w-sd3-cymbal-chokes/ I can't see the more than part of the question because I don't own SD3 and therefore Toontrack won't let me see the rest. So i"m not sure if there's helpful info there or not. I found a video showing how to turn aftertouch off and on in SD3. It's really for keyboard players needing to turn it off, but it shows where to change the setting and you might want to make sure it's on: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2PXeoJsgcpnecU EFNOTE 3 Manual: www.ef-note.cn/uploadfiles/103.120.83.63/webid1759/uploadfile/202011/6081606386982506.pdf Hopefully that helps some. Can i use HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Tablet for VST ezdrummer and record? This tablet needs usb Adapter, is there possible to be any lag because of HP usb adapter?
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with that tablet, but did a quick search for the specs. Unfortunately I'm probably not going to be super helpful. My guess is that it probably won't run EZdrummer, but if it did, it probably wouldn't run it very well. Looks like it has 4GB of RAM and that is the minimum required according to Toontrack. And it also runs Windows 10. I'm not sure about the processor. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS. 4 GB of free hard disk space. Windows 7 or newer, Pentium 4 or Athlon processor, 4 GB RAM. macOS 10.10 or higher, Intel or Apple silicon processor, 4 GB RAM. Audio Unit, VST or AAX host application (64-bit on Mac) and professional sound card recommended. Standalone is included. Do you have a recording program on there already? If you're really wanting to try it on there, I'd contact Toontrack support and ask them what they think. toontrack.com/faq/ If it would run on that, the USB adapter shouldn't cause any lag. Lag (or latency) is usually comes from how fast your computer (or tablet in your case) can process the data. Sorry I can't you an absolute answer, but hopefully that gets you in the right direction.

I have a question. The electric drums set has outputs L/R or mono L to a speaker or a mixer and then to mains. Now the whole mix goest to the speaker or mixer . I want to route just the kick to the subwoofer. That would give me the ability to have the kick to the subwoofer and make the right EQ on the bass otherwise
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars Ай бұрын
If I understand your question correctly, some drum modules have audio outputs for individual drums, but if yours only has LR like mine does there isn’t really a way to send just kick. You might be able to pan the kick all the way to the right channel in the drum module and everything else to the left in the drum module. But then your drum mix on the mixer would have to be mono. Also keep in mind that while the kick drum does have a lot of low frequencies, the attack and definition from the beater are mid to mid-high frequencies. If you send your kick drum only to the sub, then you’ll lose that attack of the beater because your sub isn’t really designed to create those mid and mid-high frequencies. Typically an EQ or crossover is used to send lows to the sub and the rest to the mains. Hope that helps!

@@DadRockAndGuitars that is very helpful , i love that idea of panning everything to the felt exect the kick drum but you r correct , panning the kick to the right I will cancel out all the mids highs that I need . Are you using an audio interface? If so, then the audio should go to your headphones when they are plugged in to your audio interface just like regular audio tracks. If you're plugging into your computer, then make sure that you have the output in your recording software set to the headphones. My MacBook will usually default to the speakers and have to go into the settings of my recording software and change it to headphone out. Hope that helps. If not, let me know what you're plugging your headphone into and which recording software you're using.

So will this work if I want to come out of headphone output on the laptop into my mixer for live performances?
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 6 ай бұрын
That's definitely an option! Your mixer would need an input that accepts a headphone signal. Also, your mixer probably shouldn't be too far from your computer (10ft to 15ft or so) as you may find that noise gets into the signal from other things such as lights or radio stations. Definitely worth trying tough. If you have an audio interface, then you could come out the balanced outputs on the back (XLR or TRS 1/4 inch) and run much longer cables to the mixer if it's further away. The balanced cables help keep noise from getting into the signal that's passing through the cable. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions 👍

It really depends on which DAW you're looking at and what kind of recording you're wanting to do. Is it just for EZdrummer or will you be recording and mixing full songs? It'll have to be a PC or Mac (not a Chromebook). I wouldn't go any lower than an i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. Of course, if you can go higher than that, you'll have a better recording experience. EZdrummer basically requires 4GB of RAM because it mostly runs in RAM. www.toontrack.com/product/ezdrummer-2/ (all the way at the bottom) Pro Tools Requirements: avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/compatibility/Pro-Tools-System-Requirements Studio One 5 Requirements: www.presonus.com/products/studio-one/tech-specs If you're considering a different DAW, then you can usually find the requirements by searching for DAW name requirements: "Studio One requirements". @DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 10 ай бұрын
That's a great question! Not stupid at all! It is possible to divide all the channels and send them out to a sound board. These aren't complete instructions because it'll depend a bit on your setup, but basically you'll need an audio interface similar to the Focusrite I show. It has 8 line outputs on the back. The Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 is a cheaper option. Connect the MIDI out of your drum module to the MIDI in of the audio interface like I show in the video. Then, in EZdrummer you'll need to route the outputs on the mixer view. You'll need a cable snake with the correct number of cables and connectors for your situation. Probably an 8 channel 1/4" balanced male to XLR. Hope that helps and gives you a start. I'm happy to answer any more questions. Thanks!

Sure! You’d just need to have an audio out from an audio interface to the drum amp. It’s the same as how I listen to what I’ve recorded through my studio speaker monitors. If you don’t have an audio interface, you might be able to do headphone out of the computer to the drum amp, but there could be a bit of noise. Not ideal, but could try it.

I forgot to mention that I'm using the midi in port on the interface already for my piano/midi keyboard but the drum set I have has a midi usb connection on it that I was thinking of using to connect it directly to my computer. Will I still be able to monitor the audio even though the drum set is plugged into the computer instead of the audio interface? I think so but I'm not sure

@@danielkarsten1579 No problem, happy to help! Can you hear the VST dtums from your studio speakers? Are you able to tell if Logic is seeing the MIDI when drums are plugged into the USB port? You should be able to hear the drums through your studio monitors. If you want to use the drum amp instead, then yes you can come out outputs 3 and 4 and connect that to your drum amp. You will probably have to set up the outputs from the Focusrite Control software. Also, you should be fine with the drums plugged into the USB port. You may have to tell Logic to look for the drum MIDI from the USB port.

i have a roland td17kvx and i do video recordings through the roland go mixer pro x console with a camera from my smartphone. Is it worth the effort and the cost to make video recordings via sound card, pc midi? Or should I continue with the Roland go mixer pro x?
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars Жыл бұрын
That's a great question! If you're happy with the sounds you are getting from the Roland kit and going through the Go Mixer Pro, then I'd keep keep using that. Looks like that's perfect for doing covers and is a pretty simple setup that's gets the job done well. I watched a couple of your covers - good job! The one thing I would suggest is take a little bit of time to test the recording levels to make sure you're not clipping and getting distortion on the drums. Once you do that, it should be the same settings every time and you can just focus on creating awesome covers. That's what I would do. If you're not getting what you want because gear is holding you back, then an audio interface, MIDI, recording software, and drum software like EZdrummer would certainly add some additional flexibility and options. However, it's probably going to be more work than what you're doing now and I'm a big fan of keeping things simple and uncomplicated if at all possible. More gear, more complexity, more setup time, more things that can go wrong, etc. can sometimes get in the way of getting things created and done. The short answer: I'd keep using what you have and getting the most out of that until it can't do what you need/want it to do. Then consider moving to something that does what you're current setup can't.

If there isn't one, then you can use the General MIDI (GM) setting (which should mostly be correct) and then you can tell AD2 what sound you want for each pad. Here's a short video showing how to tell AD2 what sound goes with which pad: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXXQdHmNqdB0hpI Here's one where they used a keyboard, but it works the same way with drums: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWiveIapnZuofJY Hope that helps!

I have not used Logic Pro, but I'm happy to try and help. It's frustrating when things don't work. The steps should be similar to the steps in this video. I'm going to throw a few trouble shooting things out there. Let me know if it's still not working. 1) Sounds like you are using a cable similar to the red one I used? If so, have you tried swapping the MIDI inputs of the cable? Output of your module should go to the input MIDI cable, and input of module should be connected to the Output MIDI cable. That's has messed me a couple of times. 2)Are you able to tell if your interface/cable is seeing the MIDI come from your drum module? Usually there's a light that blinks when it sees MIDI from hitting a drum pad. If so, are you able to tell if Logic Pro is seeing the MIDI (input meter lighting up, or a blinking light of the screen, etc.)?

If your drum module can send MIDI out through the USB cable, then it should. It's more about the hardware than the software. My module is really old and only has the 5 pin MIDI connection, so it requires an interface.

I've had something similar happen before, but not quite as bad as what you have going on it seems. Have you tried adjusting the crosstalk setting in your drum module yet? Adjusting that and other settings like sensitivity in my drum module has helped mine play nicer with EZdrummer. Though it shouldn't matter for this issue, make sure you've gone Menu -> Settings -> E-Drums -> MIDI Mapping -> then choose Yamaha.

Great question! As far as I know, EZdrummer cannot play a song WAV file inside the program. The best way to do this is to use EZdrummer as a plugin on an instrument track in recording software like Garage Band, Pro Tools, Studio, or something similar. Then you add the WAV file to a separate audio track. Are you using a recording software?

Today I hit the EZ Drummer Start/Record button, then clicked the Studio One Start button, so I could play along with the WAV track. @@debbiec492 Oh, ok I think I see what you're saying. I'm using EZD3 currently. I assume you are using 3 as well? I think you were really close. Try this: In EZdrummer, make sure the "Follow Host" button is lit up. Switch to Grid Editor view (not necessary but makes things obvious as to what's happening). Then click the record button in EZdrummer. It should light up, and the play button in EZdrummer should blink, but otherwise nothing else happens. Then click the play button in Studio One. Studio One will play the audio tracks while EZdrummer records the MIDI from your eDrum to the Grid Editor. The Grid Editor will go dark and say it’s disabled during recording.

(You can hit record in Studio One, but it will record the MIDI to the Instrument track in Studio One as well and then you’ll need to delete that MIDI.) When you get done recording, hit stop in Studio One and both should stop. What you played on the drums should be synced with the song. I agree the Grid Editor in 3 is really nice. The cause of my problem was that I had been using the "Insert new track" option instead of the "Insert virtual instrument on new track" option. At first, it came with a large amount of latency between the hit and the sound. But, I remembered the part in your video that mentioned changing the Audio System setting (in Options | Preferences | Audio | Device). It was on "WASAPI", and changing it to "WaveOut" worked for me. The only issue I’m still dealing with is that the edges of my cymbals are not triggering sounds like the main part of the cymbals do, including the hi-hat.

Hi, Here is my problem/question I am a drummer and play to backing tracks without drums in them. I have a set list of 30 songs. For each of those songs I want to make a 'preset drum rack of sounds' using battery 4. When a song finishes I want to change to another preset drum rack ready for the next song in the set...and so on ( ideally automatically, or maybe with a touch of a screen). I want to be able to change preset drum racks immediately and rapidly.....can battery 4 do this, or any software do this???? In fact what id ideally want is to load my audio backing tracks into battery4/or fl studio/DAW…and as each song in the set list starts the preset drum rack Ive made in Battery 4 will also start with little involvement from me What are your suggestions...how do I set up this system, or a system like this??? Thanks for helping

Hey Shane! I'm not really familiar with Battery 4, but I know in EZdrummer it can take a few seconds for a kit to load and be ready to play, so switching kits within EZdrummer may not work for your case. I'm not sure how many kits you need, but if you only need a few and not a different one for every song, you might try having a track in your DAW with an instance of EZdrummer for each kit you need. If you setup your songs one after another in a stereo track, then you could set automation to mute and unmute the tracks for the kits as you need them. There are some other options, but this is the simplest I can think of off the top of my head. Does this sound like something that might work?

Are you wanting to change what sound the rim triggers and what sound the snare pad triggers? If so, I don't know if you can do that in Studio One or not. I do it on the drum module and then save it as a user drum kit on the module. Here's an answer from a similar question on another comment: Each drum and cymbal in EZdrummer has a MIDI note assigned to it. For example, if you click on the little arrow on the drum rim to see other drum sound options (choose a different snare, etc), there's a button on the bottom right that says Details. Click that and then you'll see the MIDI notes (D1, E1, etc.) that the sounds are assigned too. If your drum module uses MIDI numbers instead of notes (like mine does) you can click the button that say Key and it will show you the MIDI numbers. Then in your module, just change the MIDI note or number for the pad to be what you want it to trigger in EZdrummer. Does that help? I'm probably going to make a video on this soon.

If you're using an audio interface, you'll use outputs from the back of the unit (likely the main audio outs) and connect that to the speaker. If you're using a computer, then you'll use an audio out from that (likely the headphone output) and plug that into your speaker. You might get a little noise if using the headphone output. 'dad rock and guitars'- holy crap I've found 'my people'! ;). I have a similar setup that you do- but an older version of Superior Drummer and Reaper. Do you find that there are a lot of missed triggers with this setup? I find that the snare hits are really dodgy in that sometimes you get a full snare hit, other times it's a rim shot. Really hit and miss, the hi hat is absolutely unusable. It just doesn't sense the hits.
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
Hey brywool! Glad you found 'your people"! ha ha These setups can be a little less than perfect at times. I've actually converted mine to a full size drum kit (kzbin.info/www/bejne/joOvYolphJueqKc) , but when I was using the TD-3 pads, sometimes I'd get the random rim shot when I wanted a snare. I ended up just making the rim zone of the pad on my main kit the same snare as the snare zone. That way I'd get snare no matter what. I had other kits that still kept the zones separate for when I needed it. I do have occasions were a snare or kick doesn't trigger (or triggered with a very low velocity) in EZdrummer. I have messed with my pad sensitivity, crosstalk, and other settings quite a bit on my current setup and it's gotten better, but still not perfect. I'd try messing with these settings on your drum module if you haven't already. If you're using a TD-3, take a look starting at page 50 of the user manual: static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/TD-3_OM.pdf If you're using another module, it should have similar settings. I see a lot of this on the EZdrummer help forum, so it may be partly EZdrummer (or Superior and Reaper in your case). And yeah, the hi hat is next to useless. Mine will sense the hits well, but for me it's pretty much all the open or all the way closed and then I edit my recording if I need something more complex. I've heard Superior Drummer 2 is a lot better but I haven't used it. EZdrummer 3 is coming out in a few weeks and I'm hoping it's better.

whats the point of having the midi cable and the usb at the same time?
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Daniel! Sorry, I don't quite understand your question. If you're talking about the red cable I used, basically it converts the MIDI signal to work with the computer via USB since the computer doesn't have a MIDI port. Some drum modules have both the standard 5-pin MIDI out and a USB MIDI out just to give options. If your drum module has a USB MIDI out, then you shouldn't need an interface since the drum module is acting as an interface to send data to the computer via USB. If that doesn't answer your question, if you could provide a little more detail, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks!

@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars Ай бұрын
If your drum module uses a USB cable for MIDI, then you can plug it straight into your computer. The drum module essentially has the MIDI interface built into it. If your drum module has the 5 pin MIDI connect like mine does in the video, then you’ll need a MIDI I interface. You can use a simple one like the red Fore MIDI interface cable I show. Or if you have an audio interface that has MIDI capabilities like the Focusrite i. The video, you can use that.

Yeah, I had to raise the sensitivity of the pads as well. There also seemed to be a point where it really jumps from fairly quiet to loud pretty quickly. I had to tweak several settings in my drum module to get it as good as I could, but was never 100% perfect. I upgraded to EZdrummer 3 and while I haven't had a chance to use it with my kit much, it seems to be quite a bit better. EZD 3 has settings in the software that you can use to really dial it in as well where EZD2 does not.

@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew and great question! You're going to need a drum module of some sort. The tom pads, snare pad, kick pad, etc. only send a weak electrical signal (very much like a microphone or guitar pickup). There is no information in that signal for the computer. The drum module is what takes that electrical signal and then converts that to MIDI information that can be sent to the computer. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@@DadRockAndGuitars Thank you! You, probably know why I'm asking that :), I want to spend less money. What if to buy a cheap module and connect it through MIDI to get better sound? But, I'm not sure if it is better. There are a lot of connections drums -> module -> laptop/iPad(?) -> speaker boxes.
@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
@@RydvanskyAndrew I complete understand not wanting to spend more money than you have to. A cheap module will work. ddrum makes one that's cheaper than most (the DDTI) and doesn't have any sounds in it. It just handles the signals. However, I think it's sold out everywhere at the moment, but you might be able to find one used. Generally the sounds in EZdrummer or other drum software are going to be better than what is in the drum module, especially a cheap module. There are some modules that have really good sounds, but then you're looking at more money. But it would also be less connections. It's all what fits your budget and works for your situation.

@DadRockAndGuitars
@DadRockAndGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
I sounds like you're getting your module to trigger EZdrummer, but it's the wrong sounds. Is that correct? If so, you’re getting hand claps from your tom because the MIDI notes your module is not mapped “correctly” to EZdrummer. I say “correctly” because you can actually assign them however you want. One thing to check is, in EZdrummer, go to Menu in the top right, then Settings, then E-Drums. You should see a dropdown option for MIDI Mapping. If it’s not already set to Alesis, them choose Alesis and see if that fixes it. That will change the MIDI notes that EZdrummer is expecting to align with standard Alesis modules. If that doesn’t fix it , or you just want to tweak what’s getting triggered, you can do this: Each drum and cymbal in EZdrummer has a MIDI note assigned to it. Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions!

In the case of the TD-3 module and the MIDI to USB interface that is correct! Only MIDI is being transferred. My audio interface (Focusrite Clarette) also connects to my computer with USB. Great question! That's something that I honestly don't know for sure, but based one my personal experience, my guess would be no. The same thing is happening really because the MIDI ultimately travels my USB anyway. When I plug the 5 pin MIDI cable into my audio interface, then the interface sends that data over the USB. If you have a drum module that sends MIDI out by USB, then it's just acting as the interface. The only difference in latency I've noticed is with software settings.Sorry I'm not able to give a definite answer, but hopefully that helps.Thanks for watching and thanks for your question!

Hello Kornelius! Sorry, I don't quite know what you are asking about. Did you install EZdrummer and you can open it by itself, but you don't see EZdrummer listed in the Instruments panel in Studio One? If so, I believe when you install EZdrummer, it asks what you want to install: Standalone, VST, AU, AAX. If you check VST or AU (if you're using a Mac), then it will install the plugin version that you can open inside Studio One. I don't know if you can do it without uninstalling and reinstalling EZdrummer or not. Does that help? If not, I can try to answer again.
