I've had good luck using a brighter mic in live music productions on female vocalists. It helps their voices break through the mix. The Sennheiser e935 is one I use. I do not prefer this for male vocalists. Perhaps the Sterling P20 might work as a budget mic for live, female vocalists.
@phineashenshaw3 жыл бұрын
I think the P20 is decent all around. You get a frequency response along the lines of an SM57. But a little hotter pickup than an SM58. I really did not hear anything that could not be fixed with some EQ. It looks and sounds like a decent tool to me. Especially for a home recording. The pickup pattern and rejection are decent. Sure you can spend $100 a piece for an SM58(57). But think about the person who buys a Zoom L16 recorder. Now you have to buy 8 microphones, cables and stands. $500 vs $1000 for microphones makes a big difference. If I were only going to buy 1 microphone, I might get something different. Great review!!!

@Randomguy-ep7zl3 жыл бұрын
I have an epiphany. I have found after watching about a half a million mic reviews (Okay, a few less) and purchasing 8 different mics to check, that these hand held, dynamic, cardioid mics should be pushed as the way to get "quiet" vo from a noisy or untreated room. Everyone wants to spend 400.00+ to look cool and I often see people comment on looks as well as sound but the raw audio from this style? Even at a low budget entry point? Sheesh. I'm beginning to think my expensive 'in your face' mics are totally overpriced, but are that way because of added size and looks. I do get that some people want their video content to include their gear choices. To me, mics should be primarily heard, not seen. My AT2005 sounds quieter than my condenser and broadcast mics. Even if they are also cardioid. Hmmmm Check recent episodes of Star Talk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Great sound from untreated home studios with basic cardioid mics. Expensive dynamic alternatives would require post processing.
@larryhinze16172 жыл бұрын
