Instant serotonin boost seeing Dr. Gill uploading a video.

I'm 73 and had my first knee injection about six weeks ago. I wish I'd seen your video first. My knee felt great for a couple of days (the anesthetic), then started to hurt again. I was devastated because I thought the injection had failed. A couple of days later, the pain disappeared and fortunately has not come back yet. It hurt for a couple of seconds when the doc did the injection, but that was it. Well worth it! Only complication was an extremely elevated glucose level.

Omg you can’t believe how nervous I was you were actually going to inject him. As someone with a bit of a needle phobia, I couldn’t help but cover my eyes barely peeking through my fingers . But thankfully you put the cap back on and all my anxiety washed away. 😅

Hello Dr Gill! I am an FY1 strongly considering GP - thanks for all your content!
@Miguelitojones19 ай бұрын
GPs are so underappreciated. In Brazil everyone wants to become a specialist and make money. But the GP is the one who's gonna solve 90% of everyone's problems. A cardiologist might achieve vanguard level knowledge but a GP always has something to learn which will improve his practice. It's just about the sheer quantity of knowledge, not necessarily its complexity, though complex thought is required to connect the dots. thankfully for me I dropped out and now just do music xD

Isn't it true that if there's swelling from fluid that the fluid needs to be removed first and then inject the steroid afterward? My mom has pseudogout and a lot of swelling from fluid. They gave her a steroid shot, but didn't remove the fluid first. It didn't help at all, I suspect because they didn't first remove the fluid. Seems like the fluid would dilute the steroid and stop it from working. I also hear that the fluid itself is sort of inflammatory and should be removed before steroid injection.

If you could do one for a injection in the stomach. A doctor prescribed a medication that was to be applied in that way but, the way the nurses try to do it was so brute and violent that i didn't allowed it and I'm still terrified of that type of injection.

My dad taken those injection steroids for his knee, now he has no more cartilage. Heard those are bad for your knee
@DrJamesGill9 ай бұрын
It’s a balance, they DO impact on the cartilage, but if you can’t walk NOW due to the pain, that is often a bigger issue
@DrJamesGill9 ай бұрын
Reason I say bigger issue, if we are needing knee injections then joint damage and possible knee replacement in the long term is something which is already a possibility

Honestly i’m not that happy with the outcome, the problem is I’m the person setting the camera up as well. However I do have a secondary video where we’ll be looking at the anatomical approach, and different methods as well Which particular approaches do you favour?

For context, I watch purely out of interest, I'm not trained at all. I find it odd that understanding of the potential side effects is confirmed with the patient, but not that they understand the reason of why they are having the treatment.
@user-qg8fy6id3t9 ай бұрын
Patient was asked if he knew why he was having the injection. He said yes. Presumably in this scenario the patient had already seen a doctor who advised the injection so the patient knew what he was there for.

No, while they’re all steroids by medical definition, the subset of steroids that fall under Performance Enhancing Drugs, e.g. anabolic steroids, are categorically distinct from the kind of medical treatment shown.
