Oh my! I stumbled onto this video. I lived in Toronto, just north of Steubenville for 25 years. My home was on a bluff on the Ohio River. The river froze only twice in those 25 years. Flooded twice as well. I loved seeing all the familiar places. Even though I live in GA now, the Ohio Valley will always be home in my heart! Thank you so much!

I loved seeing our area through a "strangers" eyes!!! Thanks for the fun ride. I live near Steubenville. Mt. Pleasant is full of history. It was very active on the underground railroad. A LOT of civil war era history there. Morgan's Raiders rode through Mt. Pleasant and it is said even took hostages while there. The old Quaker Meeting House is there and in very good repair. We did a tour of it with our homeschool kids years ago. I guess, as is everywhere, when you live right here in the middle of it all, I tend to forget how interesting it is. The Old Ft. Steuben Park is really nice. It is a replica of the original Ft. Steuben that was built during Revolutionary war times, and the original land office was there for disbursement of Ohio River Valley land. We also have the "Nutcracker Village" now at Christmastime. YOu can tour the fort, see all the lifesize nutcrackers (so interesting but too involved to describe here). I hope lots of people see your video and come to visit us here in Jefferson County. We welcome you!

Thanks for highlighting your trip through my home area. I have relatives in Dillonvale and the man who spoke about Patsy's fish wasn't exaggerating. A lot of people drive 15 or 20 miles out ti Dillonvale to get some. A lot of people consider this area part of the 'Rust Belt' and I guess we are. But there's still plenty that goes on to keep it mildly thriving. Lots of history here. Parts of the movie 'The Deer Hunter' were filmed in Steubenville and Follansbee WV just across rhe river. Enjoy the rest of your trip and stay safe.

Mt. Pleasant is one of the prettiest little towns around here. It's known for a Quaker Meeting House, and the Underground Railroad runs through it. Cadiz is a conglomerate of service to agriculture folks, miners, and former mill workers. All the steel mills tgat you saw around Steubenville, have been shut down for quite sometime. Parts of the movie, 'The Deer Hunter', were shot in Follansbee, WV, right across the river from where you were. Route 7 runs all the way South to Marietta, Oh and that's a beautiful drive as well. When you get up around New Philadelphia, you're almost in Amish Country. If you travel through Wooster, you're truly in Amish Country. SugarCreek, which is right around Wooster , has a great many Amish businesses that sell everything from handmade quilts to the best swiss cheeses and sauseges you'll find anywhere. The Amish also run several restaurants there and the food is out of this world. Oh, and the gentleman who mentioned Patsy's restaurant in Dillonvale, and how good the fish was, is not exaggerating. We used to make the trip out there frequently to get some.

@@johnehmer2747 my mom’s maiden name was Myers. She had two siblings. All graduated in the mid to late 30s, George, Elsie and Vera. My grandparents lived on Park street just off the the main road when I was a kid. My mom grew up down near the park. I played my first year of little league there in the field by the pool

@@williamschletzer4516 My sister transferred to Mt. Pleasant and graduated there in 1945. I graduated from MFHS in 1957. I was actually born in my grandmother's house on N. 8th near Riverview Cemetery. I left there in 1959 to join USAF.

@@johnehmer2747 I went back about 15 years ago while my mom was still alive and took a photo tour of Martin’s Ferry and wheeling. An aunt and uncle lived in Wheeling and we went there often when I went there as a kid. Took pictures of the houses in the park and her old school at the bend in the road where the main road takes a 90° left turn and heads down towards the crossing to Wheeling Island. Also went up to the cemetery and found my grandparents graves. I missed Iseley’s (probably spelled that wrong) and the movie theater and the Tid Bit. I used to buy comics there when I was a kid and I think there was a news stand up around the corner that had a lot of comics too. My uncle was a florist in downtown Wheeling. I am a Minnesota boy but I have so many memories of Martins Ferry

I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED THESE EAST COAST AREA VIDEOS. THEY ARE PLACES MY FAMILY ORIGINATED FROM BEFORE MOVING WEST THROUGH OHIO AND IOWA INTO THE DAKOTAS BEFORE ENDING UP IN MONTANA AND WASHINGTON STATE. PROBABLY WILL BE THE ONLY CHANCE I GET TO SEE SOME OF THE PLACES THEY MAY HAVE BEEN.

@7:00 - West Virginia actually has TWO panhandles: the Northern Panhandle, where you are in Steubenville (sandwiched between Pennsylvania and Ohio), and the Eastern Panhandle, which is sandwiched between Maryland and Virginia.
