I also had a special lady in my life, we got married in 1972 and moved to California from Ohio...before I accepted I was gay...we separated but were able to become good friends before she died in 1999 of cancer...this song brings back so many wonderful memories...thank you.

While I found the other 2 songs more "catchy", so to say, I really like the message within this one - Meeting an old friend or an ex (or both) and remembering how things were and how things changed - most probably not in the way we thought we could change the world back then. Country and homosexuality has never fully been known to come to terms. It's hard to find a country love song that you can play and think about the man that you love and have it still be sung by a man. Country music needed Steve Grand and I'm so glad he found his spot I listened to All American Boy and was damn near in tears because finally a country song that I didn't have to change anything in my mind. I'm gay and always have been and also had 2 long term girlfriends in school back in N.C. I also met my previous fiancé and we reminisced just the same way that the video portrays Steve and his ex. Love the song!!! When I was in high school, I held hands at different times with some of my close girl friends. It was a love of friendship between us--not romantic. A lot of Gay guys, masculine or not make close friendships with girls in high school. They were some of my best friendships ever--with no alterior motives.

I'm a gay man and my best friend is a gay woman (which in and of itself isn't all that acceptable in either the gay or lesbian world). People think we're an old married couple. We know each other's secrets and where the bodies are buried. We I visit her we often share a bed - if she's single at the time:) - We like to cuddle on the couch to watch TV. She loves it when I lazily scratch her scalp while she's trying to fall asleep. I adore her. If I lost her, I'd be lost in life. I get this song, totally. It's not about sexuality.

Thanks for the +. In re-reading my original comment it dawned on me that it's intimacy that most humans are either afraid of, or have no clue how to identify. And I don't mean sexual intimacy (which is where most people go wrong in trying to explain what intimacy is). Intimacy is exposing your vulnerabilities and putting complete trust in the other person not to judge you. It's speaking real truth, not just facts, not just your dirty little secrets, not just what makes you really happy or joyful, but how also how all of that makes you feel.
