Steve has the most amazing guitar hands. WOW. I absolutely love how he emphasizes his chords with JUST the right staccato at perfect times. A true guitar legend!!!

I thought the same thing. Lifeson's guitar part on "Vital Signs" is very similar. jvb

Steve kept it a bit tame here so us mere mortals can chew on it bc the original is raising the bar way high!

I was sitting at a table in a North Hollywood bar ( Palamino ) and Steve Morse had just finished a set with the Ball brothers. We were bullshiting and the dude can fucking shred at an alien level, so he asks me who I like and the only name I can come up with is Steve Howe. He just shakes his head and says yeah, he's amazing. That was a real compliment.

whenever i see these videos i just wonder how on earth you write this stuff. This is no simple power chord crap. This is carefully calculated and educated note patterns that only steve howe can write.

I always loved the bit of Day Tripper in there
@jonnuanez28434 жыл бұрын
You caught that too?
@KlausSgroi4 жыл бұрын
I honestly think that's just a coincidence. But, as a trivia for Yes fans, their version of the Beatles' Every Little Thing, from their first album, actually contains the Day Tripper riff for a few seconds (only the guitarist then was Peter Banks, not Howe).

He plays so smoothly and casually that it almost looks easy.

@MrRichardNoggin There are tons of guys that have technique and sound like guthrie govan. He kind of reminds me of Steve Morse of the Dixie Dregs. A great technician on the guitar with a sterile processed guitar sound. Steve Howe has a very unique sound because of the hollow body and his chord and solo progressions. Its like Chet Atkins meets rock and roll. Nothing at all like a Guthrie govan. There are licks on the Yes Relayer album that are unlike anything I've heard from a guthrie or morse.

Actually, the theory for creating a piece like this is quite simple. The bass run is simply an E scale leading to the E chord. The chords in the beginning are from the E diatonic harmony. The single short runs in the middle are standard guitar warmups. He just puts it all together in an interesting way. This is actually one of his elementary pieces. Very easy to play unlike the Clap and others. Plus he has that choppy signature Howe rhythm.
@Squammish14 жыл бұрын
@ratsouffle Almost spot on except for one note. This is the correct note pattern. E F# G A B D C#' B A E D' C#' B A G F# E On the second riff he does a hammeron/pulloff on the A/B notes then a G pulloff to E on the 6th string (I think it sounds right) Keep Rockin, --Joey

@ratsouffle14 жыл бұрын
@Squammish Thanks, that is indeed exactly what Steve plays in the video, what I'm referring to though is that Chris' bass line in the original recording is *different* to this; ie, it goes up through E minor and down again through E major, whereas this goes up in E minor and down again in E minor. The note I wanted to draw attention to is the G# 3 notes from the end, which is pretty clearly sharpened throughout the whole of the original song, but in this is played more 'normally' as a G natural.

@ratsouffle What Steve Howe is playing in this instructional video (this I believe is off some Steve Howe software that was sold around 1999-2000) is one note wrong. Like some have pointed out, on the way "up" of the main riff that matches Squire's baseline it's E Minor, but on the way down it's supposed to be E Major. Howe is playing a regular G instead of a G sharp. What Squire plays is the right riff.
@Squammish15 жыл бұрын
E minor, D, C, D. E minor (bar chord version), B minor, A major, G major.

Well everyone can bitch, but you play better than me! Nice work dude! We can't ALL be Steve Howe! Or can we? Oh, I know they'll be some "genius who knows better" comments. Put out an album & we'll talk. Thanks for the lesson man. Good for you! Keep rocking! PEACE!!!!!!

Anybody know where I can find the tab or learn (video) Yours Is No Disgrace ?? I bought the Complete Yes Book, but, it doesn't have the guitar parts. It has arrangements for piano.
@pschroeter115 жыл бұрын
I convinced that when he plays the D chord, he does not finger the F sharp on high E string and instead plays a an open E string. chord (DADE). I also think he plays the E minor and D (addE) on the top four strings.

Absolutely brilliant, one thing though, I always thought the bassline was E F# G A B D' C#' A E' D' C#' B A **G#** F# E, ie, implying a *major* scale on the way down, at least that's what Chris plays... can some confirm this or am I just delusional? :P
