Steve Kerr and the Warriors are facing a major Jonathan Kuminga decision

The makeup of the Golden State Warriors starting lineup continues to be the biggest focus over the first two days of training camp in Hawaii.
While Steve Kerr remains uncertain on exactly which combination he’ll go with, there’s plenty of strong hints that suggests Jonathan Kuminga’s place is very much in doubt.

Not much shooting in the lineup, but it has length and good defense, and if kuminga and Wiggins are aggressive driving to the rim, they can draw a lot of defenders and give Steph easier shots. But for this lineup to actually work Andrew Wiggins would have to at least be able to shoot threes at a good percentage or the spacing would be terrible

Starting 5 opening day: PG. Curry SG. Hield SF. Wiggins PF. Kuminga C. Draymond Podz will eventually start at SG this year though. We all know Kerr loves small ball and has started Draymond at center before. I actually wouldn't mind trying Wiggins at 2 and kuminga 3 and draymond 4 and tjd at 5 though. I just think Kerr will go super small to start the year than change the lineup after a few games. Kuminga has to start this season in my opinion though. A healthy DeAnthony Melton will be big for this team this year too. I think we'll see a lot of lineup changes this year.

This is such a dumb comment. Wiggs hasn’t been playing well since the 21/22 season!!! We are in the 24/25 season…it’s been three years. Yall love to live in the past. JK was not able to improve because he barely had opportunities to do so. And when he finally got minutes last year in the second half, he showed what he could do. He’s just 21 and his shooting can improve the same way Jaylen Brown couldn’t shoot or dribble at at and know he’s a top15 player in the league and a FMVP.

@@Pedrin7Edu jaylen brown was wayyy better than kuminga their first few years & plays in a weaker conference + division. also brown can dribble w his left just as good as kuminga with his right- don't know if you've seen jk put the ball on the floor but anything more than 2 dribbles & its a bad possession for us... which is truly the main reason why he hasn't been playing. gsw is not an iso team but jk plays iso ball. which is why a 6 ft podz is more valuable than him. im convinced the poster of this video & everyone in this lil community doesn't know ball like that, maybe from a casuals perspective but if you think JK will be a star in the western conference without a miracle happening, you're the one making a "dumb comment". the NBA game is more about skill than athleticism bc they're all elite athletes, unfortunately for JK. upstairs & skill wise he might be D1 at best from all that he's shown us. elite high school players here in so cal are more skilled w the ball & have about the same iq. why you think podz cracked rotation before him? shooting, skill & IQ. 3 things JK lacks if jk worked every day very hard on skills training this offseason then you might be right! its about damn time. as a GSW fan I hope you're right.

If Kerr sees JK walking on water he will say it's because he can't swim. We went through the JK rodeo last season and it turned out JK was not the problem, but the solution. Kerr was not even ashamed when JK proved him wrong beyond a doubt. He has no shame!

The biggest problem is every one is too afraid to bench Wiggins he's not on a contract year and value is not high right now no offense this is strictly metrics. This team would level out if everyone consider benching Wiggins take emotions out of it is the most effective team choice.

Steve hopefully has to learn if something isn't working not to stick with it just because the reputation of a player. So we will see but note Warriors players and staff do watch these feeds from time to time. Side Note: Steve won't just straight up say he's benching a player usually he keeps that under wraps.

I'm with Steve Kerr on this one, I've never understood the fascination with the "starter" designation... I just dont get it. Do I want Kuminga to get 30+ minutes? Yes, I do, do i need him to start? I do not. The second rotation is important too. To the contrary, I would like to have Kuminga building working chemistry with Pods and TJD (for the future) and I would prefer to have Wiggs defending the premier opposing wing and have Kuminga going up against 2nd and 3rd tier defenders. Just my take on the matter.

If a player would want to leave a team that's giving him satisfactory minutes and a satisfactory contract extension just because he doesn't get the "starter" distinction while he's 22 y/o playing with veterans, I think said team would be smart to find the best trade out there and make his wish come true... who's on the Hornets? DeMar DeRozan. How many years was he an All Star, shot a lot of free throws, points, etC? But he didn't really have a three point shot. The Raptors won a lot, but they finally got over the hump when they got a 3 who could shoot threes and defend. (Also with the help of an injured GS team, as we all know.) DeRozan is still a very good player, but he'll be number three option in SAC. It's not just about the number of points. How does Kuminga affect winning? He has plenty of highlights and talent, but it's Podz who is more clutch because he has hit buzzer beaters and who makes winning plays, etc

What the starting lineup should be and why: Curry - No reason to question this BP- Honestly is the best shooter not Curry who can shoot on a contest, key plays defensively, rebounding early Jonathan- He's the 2nd best player on the team 2man game with Curry right where the sun don't shine. Dray- No reason to question him playing the 4 he's the Free Safety of the league Trayce- Literally our best Center can fight a who's who's of bigs including Giannis

Buddy Hield is a good player and he's not a poor defender, he's an average defender and Steph isn't an average defender, he's a better than average defender for starters of his position, he hasn't been picked on in ISO's for years... Steph isn't a Trae Young or Ja Morant or Tyus Jones or even Lamelo ball, Steph isn't a defensive liability anymore, he's just not very switchable for much larger players.

Kuminga just isnt very good. Nor has he shown the ability to understand winning basketball. GSW would be far better off letting him go than signing him to a big contract.
