What a beautiful voice he had. Steve Lawrence at his prime here.

I just watched Steve host Hollywood Palace last night, and now here he is on the Ed Sullivan show! This is from the same show on which he sang "Where Can I Go" posted recently. Steve's recording of "People" was included on his 1964 album "Everybody Knows". The song comes from the 1964 musical, "Funny Girl" and was made famous by Barbra Steisand. It was composed by Jule Styne with lyrics by Bob Merrill.

As a side note, only hours after this episode of the Ed Sullivan show aired, came the sad news that Nat King Cole passed away early in the morning hours of Monday, February 15, 1965 at the age of 45. Nat recorded this song, People, in 1964.

Steve could sing--but that is one dreadful string arrangement.
