The Wallace Monument is one of Scotland's most famous landmarks. But I've never actually been there!

I've driven past this monument on the hill a thousand times, but until today I had no idea what it was like inside. Was it worth the visit? Watch on to find out :)
Filmed on location in Stirling on Friday 18th February 2022.

Nice to see something that was a childhood memory. Stirling is my place of birth, but Fallin just 3 miles along the forth. Is the family village. (Mining). Shame for the weather, but could you imagine using those step with two way traffic. Glad your Cauliflower soup was hearty. Just made some here. Once again Guys loved the video. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Wow, fancy building a monument to Mel Gibson.....I didn't even know he was dead! lol 😉Seriously though, great vid as always and glad to see Alicja making an appearance again in this one. You two always interact so well together in the vids and it adds an extra dimension to them. Fantastic views over Stirling from the top and great exhibits to see inside the tower. As a tight Irishman I'm not sure if I'd want to spend a tenner to see inside the tower but it might be worth it because where else in the world do you get to sit on an actual invisible bench! lol Keep em coming Steve and look forward to the next one!

A wee bit of Sir William Wallace's Scottish history -- www.britannica.com/biography/William-Wallace William Wallace, in full Sir William Wallace, (born c. 1270, probably near Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland-died August 23, 1305, London, England), one of Scotland’s greatest national heroes and the chief inspiration for Scottish resistance to the English king Edward I. He served as guardian of the kingdom of Scotland during the first years of the long and ultimately successful struggle to free his country from English rule.

Many thanks Steve and Alicja, I used to run up and down steps for fun...but age takes its toll and I couldn't climb the memorial today, so your excellent video opened my eyes to the fantastic experience the monument is representing some of our fantastic Scots history. It's a shame an earlier poster had to bring politics into the comments...never mind I'm like you Steve my heart beats stronger every time I see the Saltire flying proudly above Scotland's grandeurs mate.

This was great fun and interesting! So nice to see Alicja today! I did get to Sterling a few years ago but the tour went to the castle so the monument was pointed out as “over there, on the top of that hill”. I can’t imagine tackling those stairs in summer with tourist crowds as there scarcely seemed room for one person at a time. I love Alicja’s remark about history: “it depends who you ask”. Lol. That sums it up.

Interesting tour Steve, been to Stirling Castle, not the Monument, the only encounter I’ve had with William Wallace was Mell Gibson in ‘Braveheart’ and it’s doubtful that was historically correct at all! but I thought it was a magnificent movie, those steps to the top of the monument would have finished me off forty years ago, stunning views though despite the good old Scottish weather, I can’t stop shivering 🥶 and that soup looked delicious 😋 had to smile at someone’s sense of humour with the toilet roll holder! I wonder if I have a tin of soup 🍜 in the cupboard! thanks 🙏 again Steve & Alicja 🤗👋

That was very good, Steve & Alicja. I have always wanted to go to the Wallace Monument, but I havn't yet managed to. Your visit was very informative. You are a hardy pair, going up to the viewing platform in such weather. In Ayr, if you were to walk up the River Ayr on the north bank, there is a small spring which is called Wallace's Heel, although I don't believe there is a marker saying so. There are steps down to the bank of the river. It is near to an old ruined lime kiln & also a bend in the river. Wallace's heel is supposed to have been from where William Wallace jumped from when making an escape across the river. I used to wonder how on earth he could possibly have jumped so far over the water, but he would have made his leap long before the river was damned. Sometimes at certain angles of the sun I have been able to look beneath the flow of the river & have thought how beautiful the river must have been before it was damned. So the river in Wallace's time, I think, must have been much narrower. That is another walk which you might like to take if you visit Ayr. It is possible to walk up either side of the river Ayr. The Stepping Stones used to be much more of a beauty spot than it is now, but it is still an interesting place. Because the bypass runs next to the Stones, it is always possible to cross the river, unlike when I was a child. There was no bypass at that time, so if the water was high & over the Stepping Stones, it wasn't possible to get across.

Love the hat, buddy! Haha About to watch this with my friend now. Very excited based on the title alone! We actually were both just talking about William Wallace’s camp. So this fits perfect! I’m having a Belhaven Black Stout and he drank the standard Belhaven Ale, both on nitro. Soooo smooth. Edit as I watch: 1. “The movie is all wrong” Nooooooooo!!!!! 😩😩😩😩 2. Why does Margaret Macdonald have a beard? (When Alicja was given her as the chosen answer) haha 😂 3. I need a toilet paper holder like that knight! Haha 4. Here’s $50 go carve my name in the blank stone Final Note: You have have not given the place 10/10, but I truthfully give the video 10/10. I love that you took us all there! It’s so nice to see for people who can’t get the chance to go! Keep an eye out for an email from me this week. I’m officially sending off the package. First went up in 91 or 92 and took the bairns 2014, Sarah and I went up last year, that climb is starting to do me in now. But on a nice day it's so, so worth it. You're right can't feel anything but to feel proud of the people that we are. The next time I see my English son i might give him a wee slap Tae remind him who's boss

Wow! Great video👍. Last time I was in Stirling, it was a day trip, so only able to see the Castle and battle site (was toting 2 toddlers at the time, too). The Wallace Monument definitely gives me a reason to revisit Stirling on my trip to the UK in the autumn!

Thanks for Braveheart (ing) that cold weather and bringing a video of true Scottish Heritage. On one hand it was cold, the other, you had the place to yourselves. Added plus, allows non-residents to get the feel for seasonal chilly weather. Nice presentation on seeing the Scottish Flag at the top. By the way, shuttle busses are for, you know, tourists!

You two are so funny! You made our day! Sitting here with Brent on a sunny Saturday afternoon with temperatures of -11C. Already had my walk so it was time for a Marsh moment! Stirling Castle was one place we wanted to go but that was fantastic to see the Wallace monument. What a structure, amazing! That interactive screen showing the landscape was great. I love it when they use visuals like this to help understand what a place used to look like compared to its present state. So sorry you guys have had such nasty weather lately. That same weather system gave us snow unfortunately but that is starting to melt some now, thank goodness. That wind on top of the monument is something else! This would be a beautiful place to visit when it was warmer and clearer. You guys will have to visit it again just to get an extensive view when there are no clouds or fog. That would be epic! Hope we get to visit here when our Scotland trip eventually happens! All the best to you both and here's to an early spring! 🌞
