Jungle Love Take the Money and Run Fly Like an Eagle Steve Miller learned to play the guitar from one of the best, his Godfather, Les Paul. This band had many great songs that are so appealing to the ear. The melodies, the guitar riffs, the vocals are just pure gold together. Great reaction. Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

For some reason Steve Miller Band gets overlooked and underrated. They have some of the greatest songs. "Keep on Rockin' Me Baby" is probably my favorite of theirs.

Sweet! "Jet Airliner" rocks! The guitar ignites the song while the bass work keeps the fire burning hot between the snare drum bursts. "I might get rich you know I might bet busted" -- that was back in the days when rock stars were still getting busted by the cops for this or that.

What I always liked about this song is how Steve Miller uses his drawing a breath as part of the vocal's rhythm. Especially listen to the first 3 lines as he draws a breath in before each line. It's so great. Once you "hear" it it will always be noticeable. Thanks Harri.

Steve Miller had a gifted upbringing. His parents were friends with Les Paul & Mary Ford, who were regular visitors to his home & from whom he first learned to play guitar. From Wikipedia: “In 1950, the family relocated to Dallas, Texas. Many distinguished musicians came to the house to record, and Steve absorbed much from "greats" such as T-Bone Walker, Charles Mingus, and Tal Farlow. Walker taught Steve how to play his guitar behind his back and also with his teeth in 1952.” Lucky fellow, he. ✌️❤️🎶

Steve Miller’s rhythm guitar is so underrated. It’s like Malcolm Young of AC/DC-you get distracted by other things, but it all works from that guitar foundation. I just love the solo in Take the Money and Run, it’s basically just rhythm guitar lol. So that intro to this one (which is cut off in the radio edit) is more of that hotness. It’s like hillbilly funk.

As much as I dig this tune by Steve, I think I like the original by Paul Pena even better. Pena was a legendary blind singer-songwriter from the Bay Area whose deep bass voice was distinctive across several genres: blues, rock, soul, and even Mongolian throat-singing. He died at a relatively young age from heart disease.

💯 all the way. It's easy to find on KZbin with a search for his name and big jet airliner as the keywords. It's going to pretty much be the top result but it's a black and white static image and it's a bit longer than the Steve Miller version because when Steve Miller covered it just about 2 years after Paul did it, they chopped out some some lines and some verses which made sense to me if it's going to be like an FM radio hit, but on the other hand when you listen to Paul do it with his incredible band. I just wish you could go on forever. You never wanted to end. I love every lyric that's in that thing and all the execution of it by the whole band is just mind blowing.

Pena's lyrics are totally autobiographical in this song and his lyrics tell a whole different story. The royalties from Steve Miller's version helped Paul live a modestly comfortable life.

Steve Miller Band has such a great guitar rhythm sound, and some of their songs had a lot of synth soundscapes too. This one is actually a 2-part (Threshold/Jet Airliner), Threshold being an electronic soundscape leading into the song. Fly Like An Eagle is like that too (Space Intro/Fly Like An Eagle). "Wild Mountain Honey" has some really slippery synths too, along with a sitar, giving it an exotic, transcendent sound.

I have to say good and bad on this one. Good because you got the full album version of the "Jet Airliner" (unedited and uncensored), but bad because you missed the synthesizer heavy lead-in track "Threshold", which was always played with "Jet Airliner" when it was played on album oriented rock radio. You caught a little of it when the song started. Steve Miller has a few of those tracks, the most famous is "Fly Like An Eagle", which also had an instrumental lead-in track "Space Intro". Those should always be played together as well.

True. Growing up, they always played Threshold before Jet Air Liner. Great music... They also didn't censor it. Hearing the word "shit' could be considered gratuitous, but in this case it's needed in my opinion. Please don't censor me, lol

Steve Miller as a guitar player is very underrated. And Harri, knowing your a big McCartney fan Steve played on a few tracks on Paul's Flaming Pie album. And Paul played with Steve back in the early 70's late sixties ( not sure of the year , someone correct me please ) on a record or two ,McCartney billed himself as Paul Ramone. A little Trivia Harri. Thanks for the video.

OK- I have one that you'll like Harry- Barefoot Jerry- it's one of those bands that was extremely influential and sounded great, but never really broke through totally- all sessions musicians- kind of in the genre of Marshal Tucker, CDB and the Allman Brothers. Two songs that I'd recommend would be 'Alibaba' and 'you can't get off with your shoes on'. You'll have a blast with these.

I would've posted this as a response to John Chu's comment below, but I think adding another main post to the conversation will call more attention to John's comment. I listened to Paul Pena's version (the original version of the song) and I agree. As one commenter said under Pena's version, "Where has this been all my life?". I'll add that it just floored me. I like SMB's version, but Pena's is just amazing. Go listen to it - now. (P.S. Listen to the studio version.)

Steve always had long intros to his songs. Many times they were 'rip offs" of other songs but was very upfront about it and no one ever sued him or got made about it. His early stuff from late 60's early 70's was even more bluesy rock than this. Even a little pychedellic thrown in. Going to the country, KowKow calculator, your saving grace, going to Mexico, space cowboy, living in the USA, motherless children, never kill another man, my dark hour.
