This was from Steve's first solo album, Street Talk released in 1984. He said that he loved making this because he could sing the songs that he wanted, in the key that he wanted, and the sound that he wanted as opposed to Journey songs. He can sing anything but r&b was his first love.

What you just witnessed was Steve recording the actual studio version for this song. Steve walked out, sat down, sang his heart out, got up and walked off. Presto, the studio version was made. This song is off the same album as Oh Sherrie that he wrote for his girlfriend at the time. Oh Sherrie was not actually Sherrie's favorite song on this album. It was this song, Foolish Heart. If you are wanting a harder rock song like journey, you should listen to Strung Out on this same album.

What fools we mortals be. Love Steve Perry, super soulful singer. One of the all time best in popular music. Journey just wasn't the same for me without him. He brought that Perry magic, lol. Try "Girl Can't Help It" official video. It's a live performance by journey and one of my personal favorites. Much love from california.

One of Steve Perry's biggest vocal influences is the r&b singer Sam Cooke. If you listen to Sam Cooke songs, you will hear how similar they sound (especially on the vocal runs). The 'Street Talk' album was released in 1984 and there are a lot of great songs on it. He had another solo album come out 10 years later, in 1994, called 'For the Love of Strange Medicine.' It was his final solo album until 2018, when he finally released 'Traces.'

I understand your appreciation for Journey but, this time I actually like that Steve's voice was in the forefront, followed only by that soft music...so the lyrics and his beautiful vocals have grabbed the full attention, without other musical distractions. Lovely song, it sounded very personal to him..

Steve Perry and Neal Schon did solo projects in 1984 while the band took some time off. The song “Oh, Sherrie” (written for his girlfriend at the time), was also on his “Street Talk” album, and it made it to #1 on the Billboard’s Rock chart. I love Foolish Hearts…Steve is so soulful!

Woohoo, that was smooth and also very touching. Kind of a tearjerker, but you can’t go wrong with a song sang by Steve Perry and the lyrics are special too. As you said, he’s wearing his heart on his sleeve and his voice complements it wonderfully. But to deliver the lyrics in that way, it was perfect that for this reason his voice was not so distracted from the instruments 🥰. It was obvious that this song was very personal to him but also very relatable to many I think . Fantastic song, but yeah, I also miss the JOURNEY Rock touch on it. Like your analysis to it. Thanks for this heartfelt reaction🥰🙋🏻♀️. Great choice Debra S. 😊

Steve made this video in ONE TAKE!!!! His very first solo album 'Street Talk' is a great album, all songs are great! One of my most favorite from it is 'Captured By The Moment'. It's a song about music artist, public figures, who were takin' from us! There's no official video, but the words are amazing!! Also from this album, 'She's Mine, Go Away, Strung Out (just may surprise you!!) and Runnin' Alone!' Well heck! Again every song!!...lol...

Street Talk was a homemade to both Steve's love of Motown and R&B and his former band Alien Project. Alien Project was going to be signed to a label contract and sadly just prior to that signing the guitarist and vocalist for the band was killed in a motorcycle crash. So, Steve wrote this record quickly and teamed up with old friends and session musicians to get back to his toots and love if the R&B and Motown sound.

Patty-The reason he did it that way is because he was paying homage to Perry Como a singer from the late 40's early 50's. He admired the man's singing style. He also admired Sam Cooke a great deal.

"Foolish Heart" by Steve Perry was released in 1984, while he was still with Journey. ❤ I love this Song, especially since since Steve Perry honesty sings about the very real 'struggle between our heart and mind.' Although this has probably not been Scientifically proven, there is a Higher Source of Conviction. A Biblical Scripture inspired by our Heavenly Father, Jehovah God, states: "The heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate. Who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9; Psalms 83:18) Whom would know us better than the one whom created us? TY. 🙂🙏🙏🙏

Hey, Hap! Steve Perry sang in a mostly-R&B style before joining Journey. And if you want to hear him rock an R&B-style song with Journey, watch the video for "I'll Be Alright Without You" here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npuydpp6pdWXbM0 (And yep - that's Randy Jackson on the bass. Also, Neal Schon plays guitar in a bluesy, R&B way during this song.) Also, Steve Perry's musical hero was the R&B singer Sam Cooke. Listen to a few of Sam Cooke's songs such as "Cupid," "You Send Me," or "Another Saturday Night," and you can certainly hear that influence in Steve's voice. Through Steve in this song "Foolish Heart," you can really, really get that Sam Cooke vibe.

I love this song and your reaction. I want to share my theory with you. I think Steve Perry was a big fan of the singer Bobby Caldwell. Bobby had a big hit in 1977 called "What You Won't Do For Love". I think Steve Perry consciously was inspired by it when he wrote "Foolish Hearts". In fact there's another song on that Bobby Caldwell album that sounds like a different song on Street Talk. Anyway, this is the video for "What I Won't Do For Love." Even the videos are similar. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWm8YYaQp7WXjpI

What a marvelous voice, one of the best, in my opinion. The title reminds me of a song from the soundtrack of my youth, My Foolish Heart, another beautiful song, this one from the 1950s. Would you be willing to react to the version by Billy Eckstine? I adored his voice back in the day & still do. Everything he did is worth a listen. Many singers have covered it. Jose Feliciano gave it a wee bit of Latin flavor, and Cliff Richard just sang it very sweetly. Here's a link to the classic Eckstine version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZa2n59sjt5sZrM

Steve perrybis the greatest singer in rock history...unfortunately this record did nothing to prove his greatness. Boring bland production. Underwhelming (for Steve vocals) listen to frontiers and raised on radio and be BLOWN away. Escape is unbelievable. His earlier works virtually any of his stuff smokes this.
