I'm a middle aged white woman, and this song came out when I was in college, my friends and I would drive down the road with the windows down and Journey cranked up. Their songs really spoke to my friends and I when we were in our late teens and early twenties. Still love their music

Steve and Jon wrote this song because at the time, Neal and Ross as well as some crew members were going through nasty divorces. Steve said it was very stressful for everyone. He and Jon wished there was a less hurtful and painful way to end a relationship. That is what this song is about.

Amazing..... I am 65 years old. I had been married since I was 18. Moved away from where I was born and raised; went through having kids (who are now out on their own); houses; animals and a husband, all of those things that for years I had put before myself. Then I turned 64. I realized that I had lost the heart of the young person that I was all of those years ago....and that beat, that drive to go home and find her started in me...much like the beat at the beginning of this song. I was living in Arizona and I knew it would be a tremendous feat to find my way back home to New York, just south of the Canadian border but I couldn't mute the beat, the drive to do so. I told my now ex that I wanted to go home and he said he couldn't come back so I said, well... we must go our separate ways because I have to find "someone", meaning me. When I was at the airport waiting for my flight (you called it a road trip...lol) this song actually started playing somewhere close to where I was sitting on someone's laptop. I thought it was so fitting at that moment in time. First time in my life that I am living alone, listening to my own inner self. Thanks for rebooting this recent memory for me, Hap because sometimes I have moments that question myself about where I am today but this sparks that beat, that drive to continue this journey of discovery I decided to take. Woooo hooooo with your NY jacket!!!! So ironic you're wearing it with this song. lol Take care and be well.... Peace.

I have always said to my son that the young now days have missed out on the good times of the 80’s. Bands popping up everywhere and making GOOD ROCK & ROLL not only great songs but all the boys in the band played their own Instruments . You don’t see that now days. It’s all computer and only one person on that stage. Journey was a great band to see and could really put on a GREAT SHOW. My god seeing Steve dance around on that stage really made a girl go home and DREAM. I saw that band every time I could. Just loved them! ✌️ from the 🇺🇸 Great Video!! And Great sing!!! Memories are spilling out of me right now and all good ones too! 😁😁 THANKS!!!

Many of Journey's albums featured a scarab in their artwork. Do a google search on their album covers. Infinity, Evolution, Departure, Captured, Escape, Greatest Hits, Time3 all show the scarab in different stages. It continues with Arrival, The Essential, Greatest Hits II, Generations, Revelation and Eclipse.

Awesome song!! 🎶 Great selection Debra! Thanks for not showing the cheesy video, it is a time warp though 😅 Shot in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, for $5K and no concept, going into the shoot. Best thing to come out of the video was "Oh Sherrie", because of the fight Steve Perry and his girlfriend Sherrie Swafford had regarding the casting of the female lead in the video, not Sherrie😉 Steve is in particularly spectacular voice and the orchestration is dynamite💥. Hap your reaction is exactly 💯 appropriate. I so appreciate you not holding back on your feelings!! Peace J ✌ ☮ 💕

It gives me chills when you react this way to music I grew up with. The music I listened to on albums, 8-track tapes, cassette tapes, CD's, et cetera. Sharing your musical journey (no pun intended) and seeing your reactions are so satisfying. I think about how, without the channel, you might have missed out on some of the best musical creators in history. It's almost as if I am hearing them for the first time, too. "Thanks for the memories." -- Bob Hope (circa, way before you were born). That was his theme song. ; - )

Hey, Hap! I'm loving your reactions to Journey's music and the way you show your feelings. It's refreshing. Also, would like for you to react to the live version of Journey performing a mash-up of their songs "Hopelessly in Love" and "The Party's Over" live in Tokyo in 1981. Of course, Steve sounds phenomenal, but at around minute 3:58, you get to hear how amazing guitarist Neal Schon, drummer Steve Smith, and bassist Ross Valory truly are. At one point, you can see how much fun Ross is having when he smiles as Neal and Steve Smith are 'in the zone.' This is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6CzYnSBmNOZqJo

Arnel Pineda, the current Journey singer, ruins this song by replacing the last note with an ascending slide.
