The Minimoog, the Linn 9000, the kX88, the Xpander, the TX816 - between my personal adoration of so many projects Steve was involved in during the 80s and my knowledge of those models, it’s very easy to imagine how much this video series represents my regret that I was not born at least 20 years earlier than I was (1980).

Bought this back in the day on VHS first learning about MIDI and using a friends MIDI studio.... watching Steve on Arturia site just now, his mannerisms are unmistakeable! Great innovator and player.

If you put Steve Porcaro in a straight jacket he would be able to wiggle his way out of one.

Those warm and percussive sounds and tones are very similar and close to the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer. That specific sound reminds me Tina Turner, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Chick Corea and Stevie Wonder.

By this time CV Gate/Trig In/Trig out was long forgotten.
@synthesizerhome20416 жыл бұрын
no, he used the Oberheim DSX, this is a CV/Gate sequencer, no MIDI
@jaggass6 жыл бұрын
How did he get the DX7 to work on the Oberheim DSX when its not midi?
@jaggass6 жыл бұрын
Just watched another clip. Steve said that the DSX was modified to accept midi.
@synthesizerhome20416 жыл бұрын
well he also said he uses different sequencers for their strenghts, the DSX fits perfectly with the Xpander, that's why there are side by side
