How does the DAC capabilities of the DX340 compare to those of the Ibasso D16?

I was hoping this'd be good for high sensitive iems like thoses from campfire audio. But it seems like the focus on totl daps nowadays is being able to drive power hungry headphones. I wonder what'd be the best alternative for the the best quality sound with no hiss at all.

Thanks very much for this video! During this video, background "hiss" is mentioned. I haven't been listening to high-rez music for very long, but is there a level of hiss that is generally acceptable? The idea of ANY hiss doesn't make sense to me. That said, I realize we all hear sounds a bit differently. There may be a lot of hiss in my A&K SR35 that I simply can't hear due to hearing loss.

How does it compare with the Dx320 Max Ti?

do any of you guys have any problems with it ?! I know a lot of people complaining about DX180 and DX260 coming with a lot of QC issues out of the box. I now have from a friend a DX260 which came with loose screws inside and on top of that, it now doesn’t report the battery level correctly and cannot connect to wifi if you have the same SSID for both 2,4 and 5GHz networks.

The one unit we have open in the office right now has been perfect. At the moment, since we're a store, we get to see the sorts of issues that are common. A few years ago, I would have said that Astell&Kern was way better from a longevity/warranty issue perspective, but I think iBasso has improved since then in general. Every now and then there's an odd issue that comes through, or something like DX180 not being compatible with some brands and microSD cards, but in general, I'd say that their QC is similar to other portable audio brands.

I think it's overall better than DX320. In terms of sound, I find DX340 to be closer to the imaging and soundstage quality of Astell&Kern's DAPs than the DX320, and I find the build and design to be stronger both in terms of the look and the feel of the device when i'm handling it.

How does this compare to Hugo 2, I love that sound signature and wonder if there's an amp card that could achieve that?

DX340 is probably as close to the Chord sound as I've heard from iBasso, but I don't think it quite matches the weight and dynamics of Hugo2. Using it with DC power might be even closer, but I'd be curious to demo some of the amp cards to compare.

@BloomAudio thanks for the tip, glad it's closer to the Chord sound. Would love to demo one of these! I have the L&P 6Pro currently and it's a bit too dark. Could just be my iem synergy, though.

For me, DX340 + VE8 is such a sublime sound, it's worth carrying 'a pound of DAP' in my pocket! 😅

I'd say that there's a moderate improvement in the overall sound quality, and the build is significantly better on DX340. I'd say it's worth the upgrade, but if you make it out to CanJam NYC, you can test it out yourself. :)

@ sorry it should be 340. I feel they are quit similar in warmth perspective and they are both neutral and punchy on bass. I have dx320 for years and audited both 340 and 3000 (not directly compared) in different places. 340 gave me more wider and open sound feeling otherwise it’s quit similar to 320, and I didn’t feel 3000 has any supreme/better than 320. Considering 340 has open android system and more sound cards and signatures in future to play with, imho it’s a better choice than 3000

Yeah, at this point, they haven't announced any different bundles or anything like that. If there's a lot of demand for it though, we could reach out to iBasso to see if they'd be interested in offering alternate versions with future amp card configurations.
