Some of the best guitarists in the world, who have been playing decades longer than she has, would readily admit that they cannot perform some of the same feats on the fretboard that she can. She is a once in a lifetime virtuoso on the guitar. The combination of her talent, feel, speed, accuracy, dexterity and complexity is truly a gift from God. I know we’re not supposed to say this, but she's performing these covers better than some of the guitar legends who wrote them.

He played both parts. Ralph Macchio's and "Jack Butler". Way back, Guitar Player magazine used to include 45' vinyl records in their magazines (anyone remember that?). The guitar duel was one of them. Both Vai's part and Ry Cooder's part. Included in pring was the transcribed sheet and tab for it. 35+ years later I've been trying to play this and it still eludes me. I have bits and pieces of it down. But, not the whole thing. I recall an interview with Vai. Saying that he REALLY, had to try to mess playing this piece up (hence why it looks obvious to anyone that plays).

This type of comment is under every kid's shred video. The reason you can't do it is because you don't want to. Just like Bob Dylan can't do it. Or Eric Clapton, or George Harrison. The implication of your comment is that one is "better" if they can play this. Clearly that's not true.

Why are we talking about female guitarists and not have to talk about male guitarists?
@aegisofthesouth520910 жыл бұрын
This girl is amazing... I am a guitarist myself and I have found that there are ranks within the guitar world. Knowing chords and scales makes you a "beginner"... this is where you start and even the start is no easy task. There are literally millions that know how chords and scales work. The next is when you can make your own variations within chord progressions and scales.."Adept" . The next is the Master...this is achieved through an almost literal transformation..."where you FEEL the music itself" Some people call this a "gift" and rightly so..because there are many who cannot learn this...You can memorize other peoples songs, play them flawlessly and still not touch the "feel" of the original..very few can. Not to sound crazy but old timers called it "soul" when you actually put your soul into the sounds themselves... People say Jimi Hendrix was overrated and scoffed at his distorted mixtures while others thought he was a demi-god on guitar...there is no doubt there are allot of variations out there but you will know when someone has "soul" in their music... David Gilmore was the oppostite of Jimi through clean edge solos with flawless feel to them..and I could name many more with different feels to them... Not to go on and on I would explain it even more simplistic... Most people are distinguished by the sound of their vocal chords...but when the person puts emotion and feeling into what they say they no longer become boring and monotone but rather interesting and unique.... This girl has in my book reached the adept phase at an almost impossible age...and to encourage her and support her is perhaps a way to unlock something that you and I could only dream to attain..
@aegisofthesouth520910 жыл бұрын
you can see it starting to show in her "Dreamtheatre" clip...watch the emotion and feel she puts into it...even her body language shows her soul is genuinely expressed through her playing.

I somewhat agree yes, anyone with tab and a metronome could master this in a few weeks of constant practice... this being if you have already become "Adept". I certainly do not consider myself a "Master" I have had the "Gift" since youth. Whilst I do not play classical music or attempt at "super guitarists material" I FEEL and can put my soul into my music... mostly blues and rock. However that is not nearly as complicated as this classical piece. I would like to acknowledge your comment as very good with just one extra note. I can play some mean blues and I wouldn't hesitate to take the stage with any accomplished blues player but I think this kid can do much more than what she shows here. Love guitar but after watching this maybe, after 38 yrs I should just play on the porch with my old dog and a glass of whiskey. Nice comment sir. She is gonna make it to the Feel part sooner than we did.

Express your thoughts all you want commenters, but never use any insults on Tina. Even if you're professional musicians, please give her respect and support. She is only 17 years of age and can play so well. I've seen several commenters that criticize her because they thought that she "lacks emotion" or "just shreds" which isn't true whatsoever. She always uses musical emotion to her playing. Vibrato, melody, precision, and bends are the major signs to playing with feel and she's been using those wonderfully. Even if there are videos of her playing fast parts of the covers, there are also slower parts of the songs that she played such as Becker, Vai, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Yngwie, Dragonforce, Metallica, and Megadeth. Not all of her videos are of her playing fast solos, there are videos of her playing slow ones such as AC/DC, Gary Moore, Pink Floyd, and Slash. Also, in her pre-electric guitar videos, she's doing classical guitar techniques in some videos such as free-stroke and rest-stroke and she's done finger styling in other videos. Many people are saying that they'd love to hear her original songs and I would too, but we just have to give her some time and let her decide if she wants to or not and I don't think she has to do that. Since I once heard that she's a student at musical history, composition, and theory and has been getting straight A's, I'm sure one day she'll make masterpieces and she'd make an amazing composer. If any commenter disagrees with me, it's their own opinion and it's okay to express their feelings, but calling her any insulting words are flat out unacceptable. She's one of the greatest female guitar teenagers that began as child guitarists and someday, she can be one of the best guitarists ever in reality and she's one of my favorite players and one of the greatest players in my book.

Some guitarists get all butt hurt when they see someone very young that can play better than they can, I'm not one of them. I've been playing 30 years and am counted as pretty damn good amongst my peers, but I could never play that. This is just awesome. My only "criticism" is that while her technique is amazing, she needs to work on her "feel". I forget who said it, don't remember if it was one of my teachers or a famous guitarist, but they said "learn all you can, then forget about it and just play". You'll have the technical foundation so your hands know what to do, then just let your heart and soul dictate what comes out.

There are always going to be prodigies, that doesn't take anything away from you though. Everybody is different. I have a friend who toured with Van Halen back in the day, and one night he and Eddie were just hanging out and jamming, and Eddie told him "there are things that I can play that you can't, but there are things that you can play that I can't. I'm me, and you're you". Even the best still have things they can learn.

Nothing The established should always embrace new talent as that is what ensures great music continues way beyond our time in the world. A lot of people do not and feel threatened by whatever comes along which is nothing more than insecurity and a lack of belief in their own style - put the next gen down before addressing your own flaws. I would love to play as well as Tina S but I know that will never happen. However, people like Tina S are the reason we persevere and and strive to improve

I like people's 'facial expressions' when playing... it is part of 'feeling they are getting at the time. David ( Gilmour ) doesn't make many... but PF just used to go on stage in T-shirts... no fancy costumes! but great stage shows! good on ya' girls, you have amazed me!

And so an angle has returned to the heavens. I thank you Ms. Tina S. For the 1min and 4 seconds that lifted me up when I needed it most. Please do not return to this place. Your place isn't here among the troglodytes it's with the angles.

@@xname662 Agreed. The tone is too harsh in my opinion. Cant knock the playing though
@j_freed4 жыл бұрын
@@colynwyn1281 - same as in the VH cover I felt it was higher gain & lighter touch than Steve or Eddie would use.
@colynwyn12814 жыл бұрын
@@j_freed Yeah. It seems to be her preferred tone as I've seen her do a Gary Moore cover (the Loner) which also had too much gain for my taste. But that's a personal thing, I can completely appreciate the skill levels on show here. I wish I had that level of ability. That said I've often thought Gary Moore's live tone was too harsh as well. So I'm obviously the problem
