Steve Winwood is, and has been, amazing for many decades. As you said, he's known primarily as a vocalist and keyboard player but as you just saw, he's more than proficient on the guitar. He also plays mandolin, drums, bass and saxophone...you know, your classic underachiever. He's had success in multiple bands over the years: The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith, and then as a solo act. Steve Winwood, in all his incarnations, is a deep rabbit hole that should be explored. Oh, I forgot to mention that he also writes, arranges, and produces a lot of his material.

Seve Winwood has been in several bands and has hit songs with all of them: Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, and Traffic (Dave Mason played along side of him in this band). I liked him best with Traffic. Have seen him twice, live, and waiting on the third time! Some must-listen suggestions: Low Spark of High Heeled Boys (My favorite), Dear Mr Fantasy, While You See A Chance, Gimme Some Lovin, Valerie, Higher Love, Can't Find My Way Home, Back In the High Life Again, and Roll With It are just a few. Good friends with Elton John who has spent much effort in promoting this artist..... and rightly so. Inducted into the R&R HOF in 2004 as a member of Traffic. Always enjoy your entertaining reactions, TY

Imagine him at 16-17 years old, performing this song back in the 60s. It just seems that, generally speaking, young musicians and artists today don't have this level of sophistication and musical knowledge. He was a musical prodigy, and I don't know when this performance was shot, but he can still deliver!

Steve Winwood is maybe the most talented artist in Rock History, and that has come from the the likes of Eric Clapton, and many other top Rock stars over the last 50 plus years. A master musician of over 20 different instruments, and a Soulful voice that has been compared to Ray Charles by many. He is a legend. Started out at age 16, when " Spencer Davis Group" asked his parents if Stevie could play with his Band, comprised of grown men in their mid to late 20s. The parents said no, but then relented when they were told how great their young son's (16) voice was, and he'd make a ton of money for everyone. The rest is history. This British Born musical wizard, is a legend.

I am sorry I totally disagree. Steve Winwood is known for being an amazing guitarist, a virtuoso keyboard player, a composer second to none AND a superb vocalist. If you have followed his career right from Spencer Davis group, to Blind faith, through Traffic (and return to Traffic) and all his solo career ….he is much more than ‘known most for his vocals’…..he is a musician par excellence. Watch him live with Clapton at Maddison Square Gardens….he is the better guitarist, Watch him with Traffic live playing keyboards on ‘Low SPark of High heeled Boys’ or ‘Empty pages’ (he wrote both)…..this man is much more than his amazing vocals. The most underrated musician on the planet…..Winwood is sheer genius

Steve Winwood is known for his unique soulful voice and tone usually jamming behind his Hammond organ but as you can see he occasionally can rock a Stratocaster with the best of them. That man in the end giving it up for Steve and putting his guitar on is the great Eric Clapton. Both were in Blind Faith together early in their careers.

:) Steve W predates Stones, Clapton, Hendrix - and is still going! Great Set - loved it! FYI Steve co-wrote this back in '67. He started out about 1960, From Wiki: "Winwood was a part of the Birmingham blues rock scene, playing the Hammond C-3 organ and guitar, backing blues and rock legends such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, and Bo Diddley on their United Kingdom tours",

.....while relatively rare, 2 drummers did happen now and then. The Allman Brothers Band had 2 (Jaimoe and Butch Trucks), the Doobie brothers occasionally had 2 drummers as well. Multiple key players is much more common, with one player typically handling organ and piano sounds and the other playing synth pads and fills..... 🤠

Then during his solo career back in the 80's he had a song titled valerie. Song about a woman he knew who wasted her life because of drugs. The "1987 version" video is the best imho. Yes, as those below are writing, he is a keyboardist, but it is mostly on the Hammond B3 with a Leslie going. Sometimes he played a Rhodes. He was in several of the "Supergroups" (Blind Faith and the Spencer Davis group) but his best stuff is with Traffic, in my opinion, (which this song was originally done by) and then his later dance music (Arc of a Diver, The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, etc). Plenty of really good music.

Check out some Live recordings of him with The Spencer Davis Group at 17 - "I'm A Man", "Gimme Some Lovin'"(he's on the c-3 Hammond and lead vocals).
