Steve I have you to thank for getting me into MRE's as a hobby now. 2 years ago the KZbin Algorithm just decided to recommend me your videos, and I had NEVER watched a recommended video before as they usually weren't what I was interested in. But through some strange twist of fate, I started watching and got hooked. It had reminded me of this fictional survival book I had read as a kid in 5th grade that had captivated me... I don't remember ANYTHING about that book except for this scene of a person trapped on top of this mountain with only a couple MRE's and how he had to wait for rescue while managing his supplies. I was in awe at how the MRE was described as having toilet paper, tabasco, hot cocoa, matches, chewing gum, crackers and all sorts of other things. I was just completely intrigued by how cool I thought that was at my young age but as the years went by I had forgotten about my passing interest in MRE's. Now, although I don't have the funds to "collect" MRE's on anywhere near a scale you do, I've thoroughly enjoyed sampling MRE's from a multitude of different nations and have even experimented with trying some late 80's/early 90's American MRE's as well as some WW2 canned peanut butter that was dated 1943! Everyone I talk to seems to be insane, including my uncle who's retired Air Force, but for some reason I just enjoy eating MRE's. They don't mess with my biological septic system like how they do to others, and of course there are some that taste like death itself had transformed himself into the food in question as a way of getting my soul. But, I've had far too many good times than bad times with the MRE's, especially the French RCIR 24 hour ones. That menu with Salmon and Chicken with Couscous is the kind of quality I'd pay at an actual restaurant for! I've also developed an addiction for those 90s era Cereal bars they put in the survival kits, or the older ones that used to go actually in the main MRE's. I had found a guy online who was willing to bulk sell me a ton of JUST the bars but I sure did eat them all up over the course of a few months. Now I just need to figure out how to get more of them...
@Steve1989MRE4 жыл бұрын
Jman thanks so much man for your awesome comment. This was the goal from day one, get new folks into the amazing MRE/Ration hobby. So glad YT recommended these vids to ya and you watched em, going down that proverbial rabbit hole. It is a limitless rabbit hole it seems - a lifetime's worth at least! Sounds like a super cool book too by the way - wish I knew what the title was! Man that's awesome I've never tried peanut butter that old yet - nice score. And yep.. folks will think you're crazy for loving this - but don't worry about all of that. It's a passion they aren't willing to understand but that's alright. More food for us! The French RCIR is indeed some quality chow - probably some of the best. Love that chicken & couscous as well! Hahah nice you scored big time on a lot of those old school oatmeal cookie bars - man those things are gold! Hopin ya find more - if you do and there are too many for ya to buy, lemme know I want in on the action! haaha! Alright cool, see ya! -steve

Hey Steve, as a French I can tell that Mont Blanc is a well known brand in France not making meat but canned dessert creams (vanilla, praliné and chocolate). They have specialised on this from the beginning and might perfectly fit MRE conditions as being canned dessert. Hope this helped you! And yes, we drink strong coffee in France ;)
@SusCalvin Жыл бұрын
So it's some sort of dessert cream? That would probably have been nice to eat as a spread on the crackers, if both hadn't been a mess. Overall this looks really well-made for something as simple as a survival ration. Can't go without the coffee, boullion, sweet cream crackers and pemmican gruel for a whole day!
@EL-yh5vv Жыл бұрын
@@SusCalvin Bonjour, yes, it is dessert cream and the brand still exists. You can find it in all French supermarkets. In daily life, we eat it without any side dish such as crackers. It is kind of sweet but tastes also really good. I can imagine that some soldiers would have eaten it with the crackers back in 1976 but it is intended to be eaten alone.
@SusCalvin Жыл бұрын
@@EL-yh5vv I'm not sure why Steve is talking about "meat tube" here. It looks weird for a meat spread. MRE crackers can be dry to just chomp down on their own. When crackers are included, they're sometimes eaten with some other part of the meal.
