Check out this review on a very rare British 24hr Cold Climate Operational Ration Pack - used by Royal Marines and other troops in arctic conditions. Containing 4,200 calories, yet only weighing 3 pounds, this 24hr Cold Weather MRE is the gold standard in modern Cold Weather Ration Packs.
Stay tuned, gnarly Rations from the 60's (with smokes!) coming up in 5 days. Before then, I am working on a Polish SRG-3 Single Meal, Canadian IMP Pork with Wine Cream Sauce, and also getting a Czech BDP-1 in the works. So stay tuned! -Steve

When I was out in the field with the Americans in 04 the first thing we did was swap MREs. As much as I love UK MREs, the best ones are any but your own. The Americans even agreed with each other that they now understand why us Brits drink tea. It is by far the best way to calm your nerves after a day of scanning mortar fire, chilling out with the boys at last light and reflecting on the day. It's the time to have a laugh and laugh. You can't beat a good cup of tea... Unless it's a pint of beer 😎

@TheJohn8765

Tea and biscuits are literally a tradition in Britain. Brits take their biscuits very seriously. During the recent flooding in May, there was a shortage and they literally flew in two plane cargoes as an emergency supply. If you get in between a Brit soldier and his tea and biscuits, you might get bayonetted ;)

In regards to tea, if you've got a sore throat, I've found that melting/mixing up a cough drop or two in it helps a lot.
@Emeraldwitch30
@Emeraldwitch30 Жыл бұрын
Honey is really good and (this shocked me when my dr told me) apple jelly melted in your tea is very good for sore throats. Something about pectin in apple jelly is very soothing to your mucus membranes. At least my old doc claimed. A big plus is while little kiddos might not drink a hot tea with a good cough lozenge in it so far, my little grandkiddos will drin a warm tea with a bit of honey and apple jelly in it. 🙂

The reason most of the cold weather rations come in ziploc bags is for bathroom/washroom use. If you're in or near the arctic heading out of the tent to answer the call of nature can result in frostbite to important parts. So the bag is used until it's nearly filled (resealed between uses) then tossed out of the tent.

Pro tip: add about 1.5 - 2oz less water to the rice pudding. It's best when it's juuuuust on the edge of being clumpy, but is smooth and partially gelatinized. Trust me :) Master tip: a little bit of cinnamon or nutmeg on top REALLY takes it to the next level.. but probably not ever going to find that in a ration lol even a little crushed peanut w/honey and/or raisins is fire, ration based or not. You're the man, Steve!!!!

I like the way Steve puts his hand behind small things so the camera can focus. A lot of YTers could learn from this. I think 150ml of water would have been enough in the porridge. British chocolate beats American any day!

The good coffee was by Kenco - and it's superior in every way to Nescafé, which is pretty much on the lower level of instant coffee in the UK. Kenco tastes like good coffee, but Nescafé has a cheap, anodyne taste.

Every time I watch these videos, I get hungry and want to try everyone 😂 but man, you're taking some chances with food from like 50 years ago. There's a fascinating atmosphere of impending death. Like when people used to watch Evil knievel. They wanted to see death! Not the jump 😂 these videos are awesome! I'm addicted.

Fran Martínez not racist. Anti-islamic yes, rude and idiotic, yes. Its accurate in that considering that the population of Muslim practitioners in Saudi Arabia is officially 100% but likely more along the lines of 80-85% when considering foreign workers who aren't allowed to practice their religion openly...but Islam isn't a race sooo.

As an ex RM of 6 rifle company winters that looks like a non improvement on the arctic rat pack. That bun and beef jerky would be like chewing concrete for starters in minus 15 -20 and more. Designed by a REMF. The Rolos in the old rats were a major mistake however unless you could put them in your knacker pocket and even then risking the same damage as receiving a haymaker from desperate Dan in teeth removal mode.
