Tuesday January 14 2025 at 14.28, 14.37 & 14.58. The 13.22 London Waterloo to Weybridge (14.38), the 14.33 Weybridge to Waterloo (15.56) and the 13.52 Waterloo to Weybridge (15.10) trains. No idea where the plane or the horse were going. The main road in Chertsey avoids the level crossing so it can be said that there is no need for Network Rail to keep traffic delays to a minimum. And they don't. Strangely maps and satellite images show the track is dead straight all the way to the next station at Addlestone, 1½ miles away, but the camera shows that it isn't. A curve prevents us from seeing where the train was when the crossing was activated. It seems that trains won't leave Addlestone until the barriers here are down. The close up on the flashing lights from 3.23 shows that they fade in and out if you slow them a little. Very unusual. Came here in 2011 • Chertsey Level Crossing In 2020 a water main in the yellow box inside the barriers violently burst lifting some road surface. In March 2024 a barrier was hit. In October 2024 the MP complained about traffic delays here. Mark Killick, director of engineering for NR apparently said "We've got a really busy railway and a really busy road network, and we're working hard to get that balance right to keep everybody safe but to minimise the inconvenience to everybody," Maybe you can understand what he said.
