It is what it is, get over it. You prob were on about chargers being 4 doors weren't ya when they came out. Prob thinkn they shouldn't have even named it a charger. @rumblebeast08 The manufacturers are puting them in to flaunt higher highway fuel economy making 7th and 8th gears overdrive gears...and some of them like to program them to get there as quickly as possible to achieve better mileage, making driving a bit of a labor to keep the power up. So in theory I agree with you, but in driving some of them, I think a tried and true 5-speed is advantageous for performance. The one in this Charger didn't bother me at all.

@@Chestnut1998 quicker not faster. They have the same top speed but the new one accelerates faster. But I think the older has higher top speed because it's lighter due to having 5 gears rather than 8.

This car is not nearly fast enough to require paddle shifters. If it also only has a single clutch plate then this is another Dodge abortion. Muscle cars SHOULD have the single clutch but with a regular stick shift for that aggressive feel. Also, my 5.0 is faster :)

This is a beautiful car and it makes me want to go out and purchase it but in all reality the 2013 is going to make this car look like a joke. Factory super charged, and possible 8 speed transmission makes the purchase of the 2012 worthless.

Finally, someone who knows how to reason! There's too many idiots on KZbin anymore, who just start cursing at you for stating an opinion, so thank you for not being one of them.-- While there are a lot of American cars that have cheap plastic interiors, the Charger (at least, 2012 and up) has a very refined interior. The leather in the 2012-2013 Charger SRT-8, are made from the same leather Ferrari uses. If that isn't quality, I don't know what is!
@BloodstainedSinner
@BloodstainedSinner 11 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Prime example: This 2012 SRT8. 471hp 6.4L Hemi V8, with 4 cylinder shut-off when you're not stepping on it. These cars have easily gotten around 30mpg on the highway, while cruising below 2,000rpm's. The interiors are quite luxurious. Sure, there are cheap plastic components, but in comparison to a German car, with price in consideration, the few plastic parts are worth all the gadgets, and high-quality leather seats, that happen to be the same type of leather Ferrari uses.

KEY FEATURES TRANSMISSION: Mustang has choice of 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual. Charger has only a 5 speed shiftable auto. POWER: Mustang v6 has 190 HP, 220 Torque, while the v8 has 260 HP, 300 Torque. Charger v6 has 250 HP, 250 Torque, while the v8 has 340 HP, 390 Torque. WEIGHT: Mustang weighs just under 3300 pounds, charger weighs just under 3800 with v6 and just under 4100 with v8. MPG: Mustang v6 18 city/ 27 highway, v8 15/23. Charger v6 17/25, v8 14/23 Hope this has helped you some.

Seems like a lot of people don't get it. This is a BIG and hugely COMFORTABLE car with 4 doors and a ton of driver leg room. The Audi A4 interior is cramped by comparison and not livable if you're much over 6' tall. There's a lot of car here for around 50K loaded and it's more fun than many more expensive cars out there. You have to look at the WHOLE package, and also understand that this car can easily be stroked to much higher performance as well.

U oughta b ashamed to even call yourself a domestic car fan! You're the joke, tell me honestly what's different about this new car that is so different from the old except the extra doors? Still aggressive, still powerful, still has presence. People like u tend to forget the original charger was also a big family sedan only with 2 doors. It also wasnt cheap by standards bak then either. It's people like u that act like its a 4 banger fwd car now. Get over the extra doors!!!!!

And that is a long time ago... All the crappy and very costly Cars we Germans produce here are at the same Level of Asian or American Cars... i see that point everyday with many so called good German engineering... Mercedes cars who spend more time in repair the on the road, Nearly new BMWs who brake down with electric problems. Most of German car parts are produced in other Country s. But the reason i don't like our cars is the heavy price...

@BearsDskills over and over again. They get over on people in the aftermarket. I think the manufacturer and aftermarket companies work together in sum big way cuz things that should've been done from the factory are remediable but at a HIGH premium. Perfect example; an aluminum oil pan? Great for weight reduction but horrible if u hit a bump the wrong way. But here's the aftermarket wit an aluminum pan wit a steel bottom structure. I replace 3 or 4 of those a week . I like Euro til repair time.
@AutoYoung
@AutoYoung 12 жыл бұрын
@BearsDkills a few years ago I would've agreed but heck no! Get in one of these and see. And compare the costs of ownership especially when repairs come up and tell me which comes out on top. I work at a European repair shop and the dumb shit I see come in there everyday along with the price paid for the repairs baffle me. People always talk about build quality and materials in European cars are so much better; bullshit. Stuff is so brittle and weak no wonder I'm always seeing the same stuff
@laronrhodesmusic
@laronrhodesmusic 12 жыл бұрын
All I see is people talking about durability and how long the car will last. Any car whether its German, American, or European manufactured will eventually break down if its used predominantly for racing... Any car will last a long time if you know how to take care of it. In my personal opinion, I'd rather have an American car. Foreign vehicles are waaay overrated and waaay overpriced.

Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, are techically all the same cars, the Dodge Charger is pretty much for hard core performance with patches of luxury in it. Chrysler 300 for one is pretty much the same car with similar horsepower but has much more luxury, for ex. you have a analog clock on your dash board which is really nice. Jeep is good for AWD and is good for driving in snow and dirt roads, I wouldn't find it luxurious as much but still fun none the less. Check them out sometime.

Hemishperical heads give more flow easier than typical "wedge" style heads, especially at higher RPM. over 75% of a motors power is all dependant upon how the heads flow (which is why you can have 300hp 4-cylinders) A hemi head can be taken to higher peak power levels than typical V8 heads so a big difference is in modding potential. The main differences ive seen however are Hemi heads have a LOT more horsepower potential and can support great RPM but typical heads are better for street torque

OK MAYBE the blacked out front end piece. But the side frills are a throwback to the original charger same with the hood vents the charger has no turbos. While they both have 4 seats the charger also has 2 more doors 2 more cylinders and only RWD. Comparing the charger to a GTR is like comparing NASCAR to F1 none of the observations you made really matter because the cars are so different from each other.

Ok so basically we need to only buy American? So that means no Apple products, not to mention most of the electronics out there, So we will have American Muscle cars, tractors, and what else? Not a hell of a lot, b/c even most "American" products are made elsewhere or made from parts from another country, including Dodge, 50-70% of them are made from part that come from Mexico or Canada. Get my point yet? With out buying products from another country we would be back in the 1950's tech.

You'd be right if American brand cars were truly 100% American. Sadly the components and often times the final assembly point are not in the good ole USA. You also have to follow the money trail too. You want to help America? Buy any car that has a final assembly point in the USA. Perhaps American brand manufacturers ought to start building cars "tuner" kids like, they shouldn't be force fed to buy a car they don't like for a sense of nationalism.

No need to get so angry, I have actually driven a 2012 charger r/t and didn't like it. Not just for the lack of a manual option, but the car just feels so damn heavy and huge. Obviously a 911 would be a different story, however I still wouldn't buy one without a manual transmission. Once again my opinion 3 pedals are more fun than 2, though I don't experience much traffic where I live.

@monst3rmashh also, I have no real interest in social security because I have a comfortable, well funded pension plan through my job. I am worried about my 12 year old son though, because he may need that social security just like you may need it...If the American auto industry is not offering what you want, then take the time to tell them where they need improvement through emails and blogs. They are always open to suggestion. don't condemn them without giving them a chance to meet your needs.

It's too bad the auto industry forgot one of Henry Ford's most important rules of marketing...More money can be made selling a million cars at a small profit over only a few thousand at a premium price. Simply put...This is an awesome car at a stupid price. Many of the old Chargers were lucky to come with AC or an AM radio. Why not make a stripped down version? I would much prefer a retro style dash without computer crap, and a pistol grip over a gay indy style paddle on the steering wheel.

quit arguing guys, they are both great cars, the mmustang is a pony car that is quick and nimble....The charger is a full size sedan with monster tq. and they are both great at what they are trying to do but they are different style cars....the important thing is just to make sure you support the American economy and protect it for your grandchildren in 50 yrs and BUY AMERICAN CARS AND NO IMPORTS...do you think are forefathers would ever buy a honda,toyota,nissan or any of that?

The reason German cars, or in general, European cars, are more expensive is mainly down to the interior. It's like sitting a plastic bucket. american companies produce more models and they are more reliable. (im not american juss had history with european and american cars maybe the european car companies should step up there game by improving there electronic and engine properties instead of making the car look good with leather and shiny objects.)

I love American too. Thought I was buying American when I bought my charger but later found out it was made in Canada. Your better off buying a Toyota or KIA they have more U.S. factory's. Every American motor company outsource their factory's now. there are only certain models that are built in the U.S. like the 200. That's one of the reason Detroit is the way it is now.

Problem is most imported cars are luxury cars and those people who started the deficit in the first place arn't going to settle for a american car also dodge is made in canada apart from some models and some parts come from china. Funny thing is import brands tend to build factories in the united states.

There are a ton of import factories in the US, which hire Americans. No to mention, it's about where the parts are made more so than where the car is built and American car companies are out sourcing the parts. Therefore you are likely to find foreign car companies with more American parts than American cars. Example: Kia

That's not all that new really, for 1998-2007 they were owned by Mercedes, Hence Daimlerchrysler. So looking back Dodge was overall decent up to 1998, they got better in the Daimler Chrysler days, from 2007 until now they where tanking horridly, So I would say being owned by a European automaker does Dodge good. Going it alone they suck.

After reading what you've been saying you certainly have some awesome taste! Kids just don't notice that nowadays. I'm a little younger myself but I'll always support the American cars. Despite if some of them are being built in our little brother countries Mexico and Canada, the profit does come back to America.

I buy American cars because I want to. Granted, I prefer 60's - 80's styling. I hold nothing against someone who is American and doesn't buy American. You cannot blame them for messing up the future economy, blame the American companies that cannot hold, or gain the interest of American buyers. There is NO obligation to buy American just because you are American.

@chrisjana75 ...Are you kidding? Dodge trucks are made in Mexico. Honda and Toyota make their cars here, through the employment of AMERICANS. Foreign automotive engineering has been superior for years--Domestic automakers are now closing the gap, but all-in-all, I'd rather buy a Honda. Engineered in Japan, made in America. I would certainly buy an SRT-8 Charger, though.

@KnorpelDelux Being from the US I'm surprised at your comment. I've always thought German engineering was top notch. Maybe a case of the grass is always greener? I will admit, there is something pretty raw about the Charger though. I owned a Durango, and for an SUV it had a pretty mean look. I might have to take another dive into Dodge and pick one of these up!

I gotta say....This car is so fucking sick and I love every bit of it...EXCEPT for the fact that SRT continues to not give the option of a 6 speed Manual stick shift.....How can you put so much power in such a bad ass car and not offer a Manual?? I said that with the earlier Charger SRT8 versions, and I am still disappointed and confused why they haven't done it yet

@btmoney21 You're lucky -- not many of us have $47k (depending on your deal, of course). Just let us know it drives, and how much fun you're having while driving. I really like the Charger, but I probably don't have the muster for the SRT8. If I chose one, I'd go with the R/T HEMI with AWD (I live in a normal climate). Right now, I envy you.

@Leonel Martucci What exactly do you mean? There were plenty of smart guys in the mid 19th century who contributed essential ideas to the development of the automobile and who came from europe. Who could you possibly claim that the auto is an ameriican invention?

In my opinion building cars is a genuine european thing. What americans are pretty good at is super sizing, what is why they have always built heavy cars with a lot of horsepower and a high gas consumption and not even spent a thought about getting things efficient.

Rugged 5-speed? Seriously... That gearbox has been around since 1996 when MB introduced it in the V8 S-class. That's 16 years, almost as old as the Impala SS FWD-chassie. That's probably the answer to that not motivating 17 mpg altough it's one awesome allrounder.

She will be mine eventually, when I get out of school and have money (In about a decade....) I will buy one, though by then it will probably be a used one as I can't see anyone still making a car like that in the future. And I will put$10k into a trust fund to put fuel in the thing. lol

@adioo890 Its not necessary on a car with this much torque and cubic inches. The extra gears on an engine like this can actually be more of hindrance than a help as it would have to switch gears very often. Most 6 speed transmissions use the last 2 gears as purely fuel economy gears anyway.

@KnorpelDelux Your English is really good, and what you said was grammatically more correct than a lot of people who speak English as their first language. It's pretty nice to know that other people around the world like some of the stuff made here. Hope you recover from all that beer!

@mgrande11 Actually there's tons of things American about this especially where it's made. I know cause my R/T was made in Kentucky. Just ask a dealer and Chrysler will send you a whole schedule from where parts are from to where it's being made to when it will arrive at the dealership.
